May 7, 2011 is National Train Day in the United States. New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., Philadelphia and Los Angeles will have major events. The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City will also have some goings on.

Trains are fascinating. There are thousands of train memorabilia collectors in the US. I was doing some research last week on something and found out there was a 20 mile railroad that ran between two local small towns, from 1890 to 1920. All evidence of it is gone now, but a part of the roundhouse is still there. Most people don't know that RR's were the largest employer in the US from the 1880's to the 1920's.
