Tracey Bennett was announced as the NY Times Wordle editor during the first week of November last year. Note that no words have yet been repeated as answers. I suspect she hasn't altered the answer list very much and thus is using words from the same original list of 2,315 words. I also suspect she is selecting words in a somewhat random manner, with only minor edits to that random selection.Quote: rsactuaryDoes anyone think this is getting slightly harder with the new editor in place? It just seems I'm having fewer 3s and more 5s than I used to have. Maybe it's just me? The words seem less common and have more double letters.
Assume Bennett became editor on 11/1/2022. Here's the list of Wordle answers since that time. (I've purposely left out the last two answers, just in case there's anyone who has yet to play those games.)
piney, inept, aloud, photo, dream, stale, begin, spell, rainy, unite, medal, valet, inane, maple, snarl, baker, there, glyph, avert, brave, axiom, prime, drive, feast, itchy, clean, happy, tepid, undue, study, eject, chafe, torso, adore, woken, amber, joust, infer, braid, knock, naive, apply, spoke, usual, rival, probe, chord, taper, slate, third, lunar, excel, aorta, poise, extra, judge, condo, impel, havoc, molar, manly, whine, skirt, antic, layer, sleek, belie, lemon, opera, pixie, grimy, sedan, leapt, human, koala, spire, frock, adopt, chard, mucky, alter, blurb, matey, elude, count, maize, beefy, worry, flirt, fishy, crave, cross, scold, shirk, tasty, unlit, dance, ninth, apple, flail, stage, heady, debug, giant, usage, sound, salsa, magic, cache, avail
Here's an equal number of answers prior to 11/1, from 7/14/2022 to 10/31/2022:
liver, wedge, roomy, wacky, flock, angry, trite, aphid, tryst, midge, power, elope, cinch, motto, stomp, upset, bluff, cramp, quart, coyly, youth, rhyme, buggy, alien, smear, unfit, patty, cling, glean, label, hunky, khaki, poker, gruel, twice, twang, shrug, treat, waste, merit, woven, needy, clown, irony, ruder, gauze, chief, onset, prize, fungi, charm, gully, inter, whoop, taunt, leery, class, theme, lofty, tibia, booze, alpha, thyme, doubt, parer, chute, stick, trice, alike, recap, saint, glory, grate, admit, brisk, soggy, usurp, scald, scorn, leave, twine, sting, bough, marsh, sloth, dandy, vigor, howdy, enjoy, valid, ionic, equal, floor, catch, spade, stein, exist, quirk, denim, grove, spiel, mummy, fault, foggy, flout, carry, sneak, libel, waltz, aptly
If you choose to, you can analyze each list and count the number of words with double letters and words that are "less common" to see if your theory is true.

IIRC, wordlebot took 5 guesses to get yesterday’s word. Was one of the few times I solved in less steps than wordlebot, of course as the result of suboptimal play by me.
I didn't know... but it wasn't hard to check.Quote: avianrandyAnyone know what the evil wordlebot got on yesterday word? Today's ams said might cause problems. I see one person already posted x/6
With its usual opening word of SLATE, Wordlebot solved Puzzle #613 in four rows.
And yes, if you stumbled into the xIxER trap, and are playing in Hard Mode (or simply don't wish to use probing words), you most likely did NOT solve it, or at least took five or even six rows to do so. There are just too many valid answers that fit the xIxER pattern.
AIDER, CIDER, DINER, DIVER, FIBER, FILER, FINER, FIXER, GIVER, LINER, LIVER, MINER, MISER, NICER, PIPER, RIDER, RIPER, RISER, RIVER, TIGER, TIMER, VIPER, WIDER, and WISER.
All of top Wordle Bots cleverly use a few probing words to narrow down the list of possible answers, and are able to find the word. (The top bots are able to solve every puzzle in five rows or less.)
Note there are even MORE words that fit the dreaded xAxER pattern!
I suspect that was in Hard Mode. Without Hard Mode, the bot took four rows. See my previous post.Quote: unJon... WordleBot took 5 guesses to get yesterday’s word.

No. I thought he asked the question about wordlebot 612 not 613. He asked about “yesterday” on 2/22.
Ah. In fact, it's my mistake. He probably did ask about #612. I got confused.Quote: unJonNo. I thought he asked the question about wordlebot 612 not 613. He asked about “yesterday” on 2/22.
"Yesterday," of course can be a different date to two or more people, depending upon where they each live... and when the post is read.
