Since the day is almost over I'll say without spoiler tags I never head of the band "The Fall." I really wish that a New York newspaper would get an American to at least edit these puzzles for what Americans might know and their use of the language.
Also struggled with the "rock" group. As a climber I have heard and said "rock fall" many times.

At first, I thought CYA meant "See Ya", and they went with "later" and "wave" as "saying goodbye," but I couldn't find a fourth one; then I thought it meant "cover your ass" and went with pin (personal ID number) as acronyms, and assumed that "whit" was just something new I was unfamiliar with
