As I predicted yesterday, Wordle #1350 did indeed stop many streaks: 14% of the Wordle players failed to solve #1350:

I'm impressed that 1% of the Wordle players managed to solve #1350 in two tries... I was lucky to do it in five.

Anyone else find that the Wordles over the last 2 weeks have been unusually tough?

I usually average 3.5-4.0 guesses per Wordle over any given two weeks (as displayed by Wordlebot). My current 2 week average solve is 4.4!

I feel like I've had a Wordle-stroke! :)

The 14-day Wordle Bot average as of today is 3.5. I assume you're quoting your stats from Wordle Bot (not necessarily, of course). If so, what's your "Luck" score ... I figure 60-65+ (?)

Not being a paying customer at NYT, I don't have access to Wordlebot, so I do not know what my "Luck" score is.

To find my score over the two-week period, I scrolled through this thread and summed my scores.

The Engaging Data website:

has average scores (from "NYTimes Wordlebot sample of over 1,780,000 games") for each day. For puzzles 1340 to 1353 (the two-week period ending on March 3), the sum of the daily averages is 60.6, so the average daily score is 60.6/14, or just under 4.33.

You said you averaged 4.4, which is just a bit above the ED average of 4.33. What was your "Luck" score over that span?

Since my average score over that span is 3.29, I would say I have been very lucky.

WordleBot presents scores for player Skill, Luck, and Average Guesses (Steps). As of today, these are the 14-day values:

ME AVG WB

SKILL 89 82 99

LUCK 46 55 54

STEPS 4.4 4.0 3.6

(AVG = Avg subscriber score; forgive spacing - editor suppresses multiple spaces)

My current Skill is on par with my typical performance. I usually come in with Average Steps about .2 or .3 higher than WordleBot. Those scores play out in a significantly deficit Luck score these past two weeks.

Fwiw, while NYT no longer offers a "Diversions" subscription (which provided digital access to the daily Crossword and all other puzzle features for $10/yr), full digital access to all NYT content isn't luxury priced.

An initial 6-mo trial can be had for $4/mo. Thereafter, the standard rate rises to $25/mo. However, if you call to cancel unless a discounted rate is offered, the subscription can usually be extended at each renewal for a year at $8 - $12/mo.

(Note, I typically access the next day's Wordle between 10p and midnight the night before.)

In almost 1000 solves, this is the first time I've scored the max possible Wordle Bot Skill score on 2 successive dates!

As one would expect, the Wordle Bot Skill score evaluates your guesses on the likelihood of solving the challenge in the fewest possible picks (understanding that luck is a separate factor in how many guesses it actually takes).

I think I might be "back in the saddle"!
