It's interesting seeing APrs attack a Jeopardy! board. None of that polite, traditional 200, 400, 600 sequential crap. No sir! It's grab the 1000 pointers while the gettin's good.

Hey thanks, Gialmere! That was a great change.

Honestly we need a chat room. I used to run a trivia game in text, like this was but in real time, for years. Other than people whining about lag (we mitigated it with awarding credit for the 1st 3 correct answers so people wouldn't get punished - it was worldwide - for distance from the server), it was a very tight, fun game.

I would do blocks of time for games, share the room with others who wanted to run something. My games were Trivial Pursuit, Tribonds, and Outburst, but there are lots of others, definitely including what you're doing.

Maybe if more people than just me wanted to get behind it, the site owners could plug in the feature. But it costs money, I'm sure, both programming it and bandwidth, so I'm not hopeful.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

Heh heh. Be careful what you wish for. Chat can be used for good (gaming) or evil. Imagine all the political threads here playing out (and escalating quickly) in real time: a moderator nightmare.

If we're dreaming out loud, I'd love a live poker room offering Hold 'em, Omaha and Pai Gow (tiles and poker). No money, just play dough. Users here could both chat and practice their games with an occasional tourney thrown in. Alas, I'm not hopeful either.

I’d support a chat function on the forum. Even have separate channels.

When I played Wc3 on battle.net, there was a chat room with different channels. Some people, including me, ran a bot in a channel. They could do many things, but one thing people enjoyed was a trivia bot, that’d basically just ask trivia questions and whoever got the answer got points. It’d give up to 4 hints in like 10 second intervals and if no one got it right, it’d spit out the answer and then ask another.

I ended up writing a script that’d log all the questions and answers, so the next time that question was asked, my bot would automatically give the right answer. Some people didn’t like it too much. :)

Bearing in mind I missed the whole "live' aspect here and had to pretend the answer wasn't given yet, just like in the real show watching on TV, I was often embarrassed that I couldn't coax the answer, which I knew, out of the dusty corners of my brain where it had gotten buried!

Since I was not playing 'live' I spent no time using search engines, which I assume was going on. Without doing that, I would have done terrible, knowing very few answers, never mind trying to coax them out.

But let me congratulate Gialmere for doing a great job here! Awesome!

Thank you to Gialmere for putting this on. It was fun. I assumed others were not using search engines, as it defeats the purpose of a trivia game. That being said, I admit that I did use the edit button once to correct an answer that I carelessly entered without reviewing while adding a spoiler tag.

Thank you Reigning Champion.

Because of the casual, informal nature of the forum thread format, I consider searching completely legit. Unlike a real-time situation (such as a chat room), in a forum you never know who (if anyone) is playing at any given time. Many players just have time for an answer or two. Allowing searching keeps the game moving, makes really tough answers doable, and challenges not only what you know about (in this case) Vegas and gambling, but how fast you can access what you don't. It's certainly an advantage to already "know" since you can respond immediately. Anyways, since you can hardly stop searching, it's best to just factor it in. (Next time I'll try to make better use of the WOO and WOV databases.)

Could be. I wouldn't expect to leave it open - it would be open on a schedule for specific things, like games, discussions, or whatever. It would have a moderator (person running the game or some delegate) who could bounce trolls and such. And it would be usable only by members. So it might be useful. Might be a goat rope. Who knows til we try?

THIS IS JEOPARDY!

And now, here's the host of Jeopardy! .... Alex Trebek!!!
Quote:

[Audience applause!]

Thank you. Thank you Johnny Gilbert. Thank you audience and welcome back to LV Jeopardy! This time we're doing both single (easier) and double (harder) Jeopardy boards (no Final Jep). Daily Doubles are open to all players and are simply worth twice the max points (i.e. 2000 or 4000 points). Searching IS legal. Editing posts is NOT legal although you may post again with the correct response without having to wait for another player. REMEMBER, all responses MUST be in the form of a question (including a question mark).

Now, let's set up the board and see the starting categories. We have....

"Pot" Luck Outliers Twenty One "S" Corps Downtown On The Side
200 200 200 200 200 200
400 400 400 400 400 400

I would say it was a correct answer. It's a split pot common term among players.

Edit: oh, ok. The table format is very weird on my phone. The quote marks are not even around the word, they're above and below it.

Correct. PokerGrinder wins 1000 points! [bbb could have still re-posted per rules.]

Please make a selection.

Point of order. You're saying I could have re-posted after PG corrected my entry and I would have gotten the points instead of him?

You can't edit a post but you can re-post with the correct response. In this case you would have lost 1000 and then won 1000 to break even.
Have you tried 22 tonight? I said 22.

Outliers for 1000
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

Outliers for 1000

For 1000 points the answer is...

It was the "Gold Strike", the "Hacienda", and now this outlier gets its name from the nearby man-made wonder..

"Pot" Luck Outliers Twenty One "S" Corps Downtown On The Side
200 200 200 200 200 200
400 400 400 400 400 400
----- 600 600 600 600 600
----- 800 800 800 800 800
----- ----- ----- 1000 1000 1000

PokerGrinder: 1800
beachbumbabs: 600
