Father, father
We don’t need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some lovin’ here today, oh oh ohWhat's Going On by Marvin Gaye
OK, I'll add one:
That’s it!

Ok, let’s stretch into funk.
You ain't got no kind of feeling inside
I got something that will sho' 'nuff set your stuff on fire
You refuse to put anything before your pride
What I got will knock all your pride aside

Quote: DogHand<snip>Back to our ever-popular "One Hit Wonders" category comes this cheery little ditty from the 70's:
Goodbye Papa please pray for me
I was the black sheep of the family
Dog Hand
Seems I've stumped the board so far. Here's another verse which might be more helpful:
Goodbye my friend it's hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that spring is in the air
Pretty girls are everywhere
Think of me and I'll be there

“Seasons In the Sun”, Terry Jacks. The first line of the second hint did it.

Correct! I thought the explicit mention of dying would help.
Here's another "One Hit Wonder", this time from the 21st Century:
And I know that you think it's just a fantasy
But since your dad walked out
Your mom could use a guy like me
Bonus points if you can also name the group.

LOL, I got nothing. I don’t listen to current pop radio at all.

Well, I guess I stumped the panel with "Stacy's Mom", a 2003 hit by Fountains of Wayne. The song (in the vein of "Mrs. Robinson") and the music video are both quite humorous, with the video featuring the stunning Rachel Hunter as the titular character:
Well, I'll give the panel another chance!
In the "Novelty Song" category, name the 50's tune that features the metaphorical request:
Pass the claret to me Barrett
along with similar requests to a succession of individuals including Bud, Bruce, and Jimson.

DogHand, I had no clue, looked it up, and I don’t think I’ve ever heard that song. Which is pretty unusual, I’ve heard a lot of music.
Here’s one. Late ‘60s LA band.
Peppermint, miniskirts, chocolate candy
Champion sax and a girl named Sandy
There's only four ways to get unraveled
One is to sleep and the other is travel, da da
One is a bandit up in the hills
One is to love your neighbor 'till
His wife gets home

For those of you doing math to pass the time, here is another puzzle...
For those (like me) non mathletes, in the category 70's & 90's #1s, name that song...
I heard he sang a good song
I heard he had a style
And so I came to see him
To listen for a while
And there he was this young boy
A stranger to my eyes
Four points are chosen at random on the surface of a sphere. What is the probability that the center of the sphere lies inside the tetrahedron whose vertices are at the four points? (It is understood that each point is independently chosen relative to a uniform distribution on the sphere.)
For those (like me) non mathletes, in the category 70's & 90's #1s, name that song...

A stranger to my eyes
Have you tried 22 tonight? I said 22.

Easy!
"Killing Me Softly"
Here's one for the crowd: what song features the line:
You're gonna need an ocean
of calamine lotion.
