I have an idea for a game to play with a waitress
after a meal. I think I read a while back that the
wiz enjoyed challenging waitresses to trivia
questions with the promise of a good tip for a
right answer.

My game is based on the credit card roulette
game that you may have heard of. At the end
of the meal everyone who is playing puts one
credit card into a hat or bag and the waitress
picks one at random and that person pays the
whole bill. Anyone not playing sorts out their
own bill.

Now for my twist - I offer the waitress for her
tip a random casino chip from a bag with the
approx. correct value of the tip. If the tip should
be $30 I would place a 1, 5, 25 and 100 dollar
chip in the bag (expected value of $32.75). She
has the option of course of just taking the $30.

Alternatively it could be pick 2 chips from a bag
containing two 5s and two 25s. I like the shot
at $100 personally but I'm a gambler not a
tip-pooling waitress.

Do you think the management would be ok with
this? If chips aren't acceptable as payment I
would take the chip back and replace it with
cash. How do casinos feel about chips being
away from the floor even if its just their own
restaurants?

Do you think any waitress would go for this or
would they think I was a tip dodging sleight of
hand magician in disguise?

I think the idea is a little silly and would really suck for a working waitress to "draw" the $1 chip.

However, I routinely tip using chips at casino restaurants. It's practically the only thing I tip with, since the main bill always is covered by comps. If the check is 40 or 50 dollars, I just leave two red chips.

And casinos love when you hold onto chips and not cash them. They get an interest-free loan for the duration that you hold on to them.

Personally I wouldn't. And management would likely frown upon it. And no offense if anyone here are waitresses, but I wouldn't expect the typical waitress to realize your first offer is roughly 10% better since it's heavily weighted on the $100. This is their living wage; they really don't need to be tempted to gamble on it, imo.

For full disclosure, I'm also the guy that also just gives table game dealer tips directly. I don't wager tips for the dealer (also higher EV for the dealer).

Oh and as comparing to the Wiz's thing, that's a little different since he tips regardless. But I am not sure how much extra he tips when they get it right. Hopefully no more than the standard tip (2X total).

I wonder how much damage drawing the $1
would do since they must pool thousands in a
busy strip restaurant each night.

Good to know that they accept chips though.

An individual waitress probably doesn't do too much more than 4 tables at once. So for his/her 6 hour shift, it might cost them ~5% or so on the day if your bill is an average one. It's probably not that bad, but I still think management would frown upon it. Also with that setup, you get to deal with their disappointment 2 out of 4 vs. their excitement 1 out of 4 (The $25 is a push obv). No thanks.

Oh and waitresses don't pool like casino dealers. They keep most of their tips and tip out percentages to bartenders, busboys, etc.

I don't know, *rolls eyes*. Sounds like you have to much time on your hands (as do I). Sounds like a lot of work 1. Get chips 2.bring bag(Crown Royal bag of course) 3. Add chips 4. explain, while she is confused thinking you are a whack job while she smiles and pretends to enjoy your craziness .Meanwhile her other customers are trying to get her attention to get their forgotten side of ranch. They complain, she gets canned, bets the black chip she won and loses goes broke, takes a stripper job , has a kid (if not already) gets hooked on drugs, Becomes a prostitute. If you want to gamble with her have her pick a hand 1 with $20 one with $30. quick and easy.
