1. Super Bowl winner.
2. Super Bowl loser.
3. Margin of victory.
For example, you might say "Lions over Bills by 3."
To win, you must choose at least the winning and losing teams. If more than one person gets that far, then we'll narrow it down to who picked the correct winner of the game. If there is still more than one member who gets that far, then I will use the margin of victory.
Last year nobody won. Lots of people chose the Packers, who lost in the post-season.

No prob. I'll PM you and keep that prediction, just in case others were curious.
Quote: buzzpaffIf the team I choose scores a SAFETY in the Super Bowl, will I be penalized ?
Yes, for being a smart-alec ;)
Quote: buzzpaffIf being a smart-alec was a a criminal offense, I would have got the death penalty years ago.
Better a smartass than a dumbass, I always say.

Luckily, it's not covered by the criminal code. It only gets you barred from the joint, not arrested ;)
Quote: buzzpaffYoung lady, you have no idea how close I was to another suspension, had I replied my first thoughts. LOL
Yeah--I've self-edited often in my head in this place. Many times.
Suffice it to say the term "dumbass" would be used much more frequently if we weren't on our best behavior.
Too soon old, too late smart !

30 minutes of giggling. Still going. Thanks, Wiz =)
If I may shamelessly trumpet my own horn, I posted the following after some guys in my neck of the woods "Circled the Wagons" after Buffalo's amazing start last year.
Quote: FaceThis is simply another way for the Bills to truely impart disappointment. It's called "build them up with anticipation, make them Bill-ieve we can put up 40 every week, then flounder and flop our way to 6-10".
You heard it here first.
NAILED it! =D
I'll submit my picks soon...

Did you mean December or September? If it's December, I'll rescind my prediction for a few months.
poosmells: I am saying Green Bay over Baltimore by 10.
mission146: The New England Patriots beat the Green Bay Packers by 10.
Switch: San Francisco 49ers to beat Houston Texans by 6 points.
s2dbaker: Jets over Green Bay by 17
FinsRule: Patriots over Bears by 17
kracker21: Denver over lions by 10
thecesspit: Lions over Texans, by 6.
SOOPOO: Green Bay 34 New England 31
AcesAndEights: Denver, over New Orleans by 4 points
FarFromVegas: Giants by 10 over Ravens.

It was an obvious typo, pointed out 2 posts ago. Mike gave you til kickoff today. How about them Bills?
1.) Patriots
2.) Redskins
3.) 6 points

I disagree. Mike initially gave us until December 9. He even put up a subsequent post which did not correct the date, and did not respond to Vegas' pointing out the date. To me, this indicated that the initial date of December 9 was correct.
That would be one wild typo, but I think it was pretty clear The Wiz meant September. Why would we pick when you could effectively eliminate half of the teams? Given the typo, however, it may be fair and equitable to suggest a, "Re-do," with picks to be PM'ed to The Wiz before Thursday, we'd have to see how he feels about that...
Quote: FinsRuleSeptember 9 was obvious. It's the same as it was last year.
It's not obvious if you weren't here last year, for one thing.
Quote: Mission146how do you feel about my suggestion that we give everyone until Thursday to make/revise their picks?
Okay, that sounds fair. I will extend the deadline to 9:59 AM PST Sep 16. However, if you pick Chicago or Green Bay, your picks must be in by 5:19 PM Sep 13. Those who already sumbitted picks have the opportunity to change them. If you are fine with your picks as they stand, do nothing, they will still count.

Considering it was free to play and the prize is precisely zero dollars, I will stand even though my pick lost their first game. It's not like I put any thought into it, as you can see by my choices. I wasn't about to put the Patriots or Steelers in the Super Bowl because I don't like them! I like the Jets, but I fully expect them to fall apart despite their impressive first game. No logic involved.
Quote: FarFromVegasConsidering it was free to play and the prize is precisely zero dollars,
The prize is more than $0. At the very least it will be a copy of my book plus $50.

I didn't expect a prize! And I certainly don't expect to actually win--you've seen my picks. I just played for the heck of it.
I already have your book and had brought it to Vegas. If I had run into you I would have asked you to autograph it, but I never went near the Venetian this trip. I had a blast but could definitely do with less smoke. And more sleep. Did I mention I had a blast?

I lol'd

$50.01 then, it is agreed!
I believe this is a personal insult. The nerve!
Anyone who sent their picks in late could have (L) written after their picks - a bit like when car lap times have (W) written after their name to signify a wet track.
Quote: SwitchIt was an obvious typo' to me too - I don't think that picks should be allowed to be changed after the first week of results.

I need to apologize to Paigowdan.
It annoys me that people are taking advantage of an obvious typo to get an advantage over other forum members. It's just another AP play. This is why Dan feels the way he does about people trying to game the system.

LOL!! Just some more malfeasance!

What would their pick being sent in (L) do? Would it be like a fourth tie-breaker with which if two people picked the exact same thing it would break a tie if it came to fruition? The odds of two people picking the exact same thing are pretty long, and if I were The Wiz, I'd PM them both and request they each choose a different margin of victory.
In the meantime, I would hesitate not to take it on good faith that at least one person really thought it was December, even though I didn't. It wouldn't seem fair to prevent such a person from playing if they were telling the truth. At the same time, though, it's not really fair for them to pick knowing the Week 1 results when I picked when everyone was 0-0, thus I suggested we all pick again.
The Wiz will be posting the new picks later on this week, but given that my old pick has already been presented, I did make one change. The change involved a Week 1 game result, and I'm betting most of you can guess what it was!!!
Personally, I like to see as many players as possible, but I'm not going to play at the disadvantage of them picking against known results v. me who didn't.
My wife was even interested in the NFL this week, she wanted SF to beat GB...because of the jersey bet and she thinks Aaron Rodgers would look, "Hot," in red!!!
Women!!! Only way to get them interested in the pigskin is if it somehow involves a guy to whom they are attracted!
Anyone who has already picked should not be allowed to change their picks after a set of results IMO.
Those who pick late (after an obvious typo') should have some form of handicap against those who picked from the start.

Ahem.
Or, they could be in the high school marching band and have a choice of sitting in the bleachers bored off their skull for a couple of hours every Friday night or actually learn the game. I chose the latter! :D
Quote: SwitchYes, the 'L' would serve as a tiebreaker ... 2 identical picks is unlikely but the 'L' would lose on that tiebreaker if it came up.

Yeah, but the, "L," doesn't do that. It's essentially like equating the value of losing on a tie, (and how much more unlikely is a tie if the people who have already picked can't change publicly known picks, the, "L's," know not to pick that, so you're talking about, "L's," picking the same way, which is self-cancelling on a tie) to the value of a known result. The, "L," does absolutely nothing to anyone. What is the value of one known game? Well, I was between SF and GB on the NFC side, SF just obliterated GB, so now I like SF!!!

Excellent point, FarFromVegas, my apologies. I should have thrown a, "Most," or, "Some," in there somewhere.
