Any suggestions for good non fiction books about Las Vegas?
I'm not looking for books about gambling, but more along the lines of true stories or events.
Books like 24/7: Living It Up and Doubling Down in Las Vegas, Under the Neon Sky or When the Mob ran Vegas.

I'm finally entering the 21st century - I'm getting an iPhone. If it's not pre-loaded, I'm adding the Kindle App.
For no particular reason, I'm concentrating my initial e-book purchase to titles recommended by / available thru Las Vegas Advisor's books page.
Click on these covers to go directly to the book's description.
I know the first won't interest you, but these are the e-books at the top of my wish list:
Everything I've read about the second and third, and thier author, makes it seem very gritty and interesting. Anybody got any other opinions?
Actually, I'd rather get a hard copy of Gambling 102, so I can have Mike autograph it....

By Ovid Demaris, IIRC. I've got the paperback somewhere.

Add Whale Hunt in the Desert by Deke Castleman, a real up-close and personal look at managing Big money players by a former casino host.
Also:
Sharks in the Desert, by John L. Smith - About the sordid founding fathers of Las Vegas through the present.
Neon Metropolis, by Hal Rothman - how Vegas started the 21st century.
And too many to mention

I intended to include that in my post above, but I didn't see it on the LVA book store site.Quote: dlevinelawI second Whale Hunt in the Desert. Fun read!
I overlooked it because that is not the original cover. That's is the second edition cover.
I assume it's got the same content as the first cover:

"Las Vegas Babylon" by Jeff Burbank is an OK read, definitely meets your subject criteria.

I liked Bob Stupak's biography by John L. Smith and whatever the one was about Wynn, Kerkorian, and Loveman at the height of the leveraging years.

I liked the Stupak book as well.
ps:
There is some hilarious stuff on CHEAPOVEGAS.com on the Stupak era, laugh out loud funny.
There's emptiness behind their eyes
There's dust in all their hearts
They just want to steal us all and take us all apart
