There has been a good deal of talk over the last couple of years about loss rebates and how best to take advantage of them especially after Don Johnson made his big score a while back. Prof Elliot has done a fine job covering this topic over at his website, www.apheat.net . I remembered that the first time I went to the Barona Casino in San Diego back in 2007 they were running the finest new member promotion I have ever seen by a long shot. It was a $200 loss rebate, but if you won money they would double your winnings up to $200! The only rule was that you had to play at least half an hour to qualify and be a new member. My theory was to play a nickel slot machine slowly and try to break even while knocking out the 30 minute requirement, and then play electronic roulette and bet enough a single number every time so that if it hit I would be ahead $200. I didn't want to be ahead $150 at some point and leave money on the table.
I hit the number on my first spin and eagerly went over to the players club just to discover....that my card hadn't registered in the reader when I hit the jackpot. I was so bummed out. I ended up losing the $200 and getting the reimbursement. I doubt that we will ever see a promotion like this again but thought some might want to consider if there was a better way to attack the promotion, besides, of course, making sure that your card is in the reader properly.
