The specs seem good enough. But Windows 8 must be destroyed: http://diversitytomorrow.com/thread/189/0/#post2595

On the other hand, perhaps you can upgrade it to Win7.

Sounds like a good deal. Please post the Toshiba model number.

If you don't like Windows 8, you can always install a free Linux distro. Linux Mint is pretty good.

I have always had good luck with Toshiba laptops. The one I am using to write this is over 5 years old and other that a battery and powersupply both replaced in the last year no problems. I probably average 4 or 5 hours a day on it 7 days a week. I got similar time on the previous one, it failed because the case failed at the hinge points. The earlier ones I had became obsolete before they failed.

Am am not a gamer and don't do any substantial media work so I never push my computers very hard.

I have not tried Mint yet, but it's good to see they have an Xfce version. Also good to see they're not using that garbage Gnome 3 for the default UI. I might try it out during my next upgrade, but I've been pretty happy with Ubuntu until the Unity debacle, and Xubuntu has served me well since then.

The fact that Mint includes proprietary stuff out of the box and doesn't have the high-and-mighty attitude of Ubuntu on "free" software is the only plus I can see, really. But it's a big plus.

I thought I needed a new computer, but it turned out the cable internet was the problem.
They replaced the cable modem router and some connections through the house which were old.
Try this before you get a new one.

I also have a Toshiba Satellite and like it a lot. The only problem is it was dropped too many times, but is still good.

So you're thinking maybe his cable modem is causing him to need a new screen, huh? Interesting theory.

you snooze you lose I went to get one they were out F@(k I knew it was a sweet deal, but in my heart i really want a i-core7 with 8 gig or better so I procrastinated, anyways no rain checks and the normal price is $478. for now I will just hook mine up to a 40" flat screen. it wont be Mobil I guess that's what Ipads are for. I just don't like having something that's not perfect. If that don't work ill change and replaced the cable modem router and connections throughout the house.
