what is the best way to move close to $20k from a casino in vegas to one in cali, reno or ???

i keep it in the cashiers cage at a place in vegas, and i wish it was in a box, but i dont know where i could get one without living in the casino. im thinking of going out of town, but im not comfortable riding a bus with it, i dont drive, im not comfortable spending hundreds or thousands using uber, or trusting the driver, im certainly not comfortable going thru TSA with it to fly to reno, since i have no credit or income, to prove i got it honestly, and ive heard horror stories of seizures of gamblers money. if i lost this money, id be forever homeless with no means to get additional money to get back into action. for over 20 yrs 100% of my income is from poker or BJ winnings. no job.

i do keep some in the bank, but not most of it. putting over 10k in it draws the govt attention i think. i dont like withdrawing and depositing over $10k, (it makes the govt think u are winning far far more than u are, because they dont realize its the same money repeatedly put back in and out). if im winning $40k per year, i dont wish for it to look like im winnning $100k!!!!

this is bothering me bigtime, because until i find the right solution i cant withdraw it and leave town.

Would the cashier in the cage at the LV casino be willing to wire it to the new cashier in Reno?

Does the casino you have the funds on deposit at have a sister casino in Reno? If so, perhaps they could do the transfer internally, e.g. if it is owned by MGM or Harrah's and you deposit it in one of their casinos in Reno.

How did you get 20k into the cashiers cage to start? If you deposited over 10k cash / day, it would have required info from you. Rent a car and take a nice drive. Good music. Coffee. Bag of snacks...and enjoy the scenery. Both drives to Cali or Reno are beautiful and not that long of a drive. You can keep a good eye on you cash and feel safe.

Take the cash in increments of $9K or less to a bank and get cashier's checks (not a certified check). Be sure to pick a bank that has a branch in the city you are going to. When you arrive at your destination, go to the bank and cash them as you need them. Repeat as you move around.

deposited it over multiple weeks, $2000 here, $4000 there, etc as i won it. never did i have over 10k at once. but when i remove it for good, then i will it looks like. my autism keeps me from learning how to drive, and keeps me from trusting others, or finding a girlfriend, or taking care of my health, but this is the very disability which makes winning so easily in BJ and poker. i make 0 errors when calculating on the fly

Sounds like you did well in Vegas, so won't you be returning to Vegas from time to time?

You don't have to answer this.... is that your entire bankroll? If so, there is really nothing you should be playing that would require you to have that much in Reno. Leave some in Vegas on deposit and take what you need back to Reno. If you start running low on funds just do a Vegas Run. If you keep building your BR in Reno there's no reason not to leave some money on deposit safely in Vegas.

If you're doing well in Reno and keep building your BR just leave your cash on deposit there. Then make a trip to Vegas (Just bring some traveling money with you). Then take some cash back to Reno when you return.

I'm not sure if your autism mentally keeps you from having a long distance relationship with your money or not.

The following is BAD advice for myself, but for some its a great Idea. Some places slot tickets are good for 6 months. You can make multiple large tickets. Again, I don't think you need all 20k in cash and I assume you plan on returning to Vegas within 6 months.

To be extra safe when using slot tickets:
Use a players card in case something happens.
Take pictures of them with your slot card.
Don't expose your tickets to too much sunlight or heat(they will turn all black, especially in Vegas)
Put them in a zip-lock bag so they don't get wet or worn out.

p.s. You should not have a problem taking 10k on the bus in your pocket. It's not like people think people traveling on a bus have lots of cash on them. Obviously put some spending money in your wallet.

would be nervous of robbery or misplacement if i had them with me, often my only address is whatever motel im in. am totally not used to having a roll much over $10,000, let alone $37,000. plus i worry if u dont gamble for 2-3 months in one casino, isnt the casino likely to no longer wish to store the money and try to send it to the old address they have in the system for u (which of course will no longer be valid?) it sure would be nice to know how long they will store it if u dont come in. surely someone knows who often stores money in the cashiers cages as front money longer term?

Since someone mentioned structuring, which is the act of moving money in smaller transactions in attempt to avoid the reporting requirements of a larger transaction, I thought I'd point out the penalty for doing this could be a fine, up to 5 years in prison, and forfeiture of the funds.

wouldnt everyone then who deposits $1000 into their bank once a week, (which would be $52,000 per year) be guilty of this then? the same would be true also of a guy who goes into the bank every day and deposits $100 for a year ($36,500 total)

It won't help you in Cali but in Vegas, Reno and probably every other big city in the U.S., Wells Fargo has over 6,000 branches in the U.S. and Bank of America has over 5,000. You can deposit funds in a branch in one city and withdraw from a branch in another. A big bank in Cali would probably for a fee allow you to electronically transfer or wire at least a smallish amount of money to you there from a big bank in the U.S. Also, if you open an account with either of these banks they will probably offer you a debit card which could be used in Cali to withdraw cash, again, for at least a smallish amount every day. I didn't mean to sound like a commercial for these banks but they are the biggest and the only ones I know with branches in those two cities.

There are a number of places you can rent safety deposit boxes from, some open 24 hours. Ive never used one, but I understand the non-bank ones are very discrete.

Find out which banks have branches where you want to travel:
Chase, Wells Fargo, US Bank, Bank of America - I believe these all have branches in Reno & Las Vegas

Open at least two bank accounts.
Look for $100-200 signup bonuses, and no monthly fee (or closing fee).
Get ATM debit cards for each.
Put $3,000-4,000 in each account. And put $2,000-$3,000 in next week. Different amounts.

As people have said, there's very little reason to use such large amounts in Reno.
Just bring $2K-3K cash with you.

I carry cash in multiple pockets/locations, and a $20 in a shoe, back pocket, or other place (in case I am mugged or pickpocketed).
Most of my money is NOT in my wallet.
Consider carrying a dummy wallet, with a little cash, and cards with other people's names.

-----
Do not repeatedly deposit & withdraw $2,000-8,000 cash.
Account may get flagged for money-laundering (US Bank is well-known for this).
If I want to deposit a large amount, I may ask casinos for a check.
The money I leave in local banks is for emergency gambling use only.

My regular gambling funds are stored in a safe deposit box (or on my person)
With enough money at some banks (or a business account), the safe deposit box may be free (of course, you give up the 1.05-1.40% annual interest from a CD or Goldman Sachs Savings. I use a free Chase box.

Cargo pants are an easy way to carry $100K ($50K on left & right), but it may freak you out if $20K is your whole bankroll.
Many APs use a small shoulder bag or fanny pack to carry $30K-200K.

My cars have gotten broken into 7 times.
If you have to leave cash in a car, hide it in multiple strange places, ...and put LOTS and LOTS of stuff in the car, so thieves have no idea what to steal.

Some people carry/store $500 & $1,000 chips.

Find a place which doesn't check ID or hassle you if cashing out purpies or yellows (high limit cages may feel better about cashing out $500-2,000 without any checking, some places start checking at $3,000). Just experiment.

I don't do this, but if I did, I probably would stick with blacks ($100) for an amount like $20K.

-----
I've had a friend who forgot to cash in a $1,000 ticket. It faded in his wallet, he didn't use his card when making the ticket (so it wasn't listed in his account), he didn't call casino to report that he forgot to cash a ticket, and he waited so long that the casino slot machine no longer had a record of the ticket (slot machines might only keep 3-6 months of records).

Bye bye $1,000....

Let me start by saying I don't know all the legalities and you're situation, so make sure whatever you do regarding front money, slot tickets, safe deposit boxes or securing money that you research the laws.

As far as I know they keep the money on deposit for as long as you wish. It's probably in their best interest too keep your money in their casino.

If you use your card while making slot ticket and take pictures there's very little that can go wrong. Just don't let them expire or you can have problems. If someone takes them call the casino ASAP.

You need to consider getting a safe-deposit box at a bank, it's only $100 for the year.

Get a safety deposit box at the bank. I got one at BOFA recently and cost me $63/year.

I've never had any trouble carrying money through the airport. The few times LV TSA has found the money, they've said they just gotta thumb through it and make sure no bombs or anthrax in it. Then said I musta had a good time & luck winning, and I was on my way. Granted, it could go south and there's always the chance they take your money & it'd be devastating if they did.

Banding money tight in your carry on will cause the bag to be flagged for hand search. Best to be loose in a ziplock bag as it will less likely get your bag flagged when going thru scanner. Also, no bottles whatsoever. Told this by a TSA screener.

Is this because they can be weaponized, or do they just get confiscated because they're the favorite snack of TSA agents? ;)

Ill never know. He definitely confiscated it from my brief case. Apparently anything organic like fruit shows up as bright orange and they automatically search your bag.

Problem with bank safety deposit boxes are the hours. I read of a family whose father had all their passports in his deposit box.
Their daughter was in Israel and got in a serious car accident. Happened on a Saturday and they had no access until Monday. Had it been a holiday weekend, it would have been Tuesday.

Yes I agree, but in his situation I can't imagine he will ever suddenly need the rest of his BR. I can't imagine he needs more than 5k available at any given time for what he's doing.

IMO as long as you don't let slot tickets expire, use you card and take pictures it's the best method. There's a chance of recovery if something happens, easy to hide, easy to carry, less likely a cop or someone would take it. If you get them in your town you have 24/7 access to the cash.

Using a card is very important.

not having a steady address (except whereever im staying that night) is kind of a liability, worry ill lose stuff without a "home" to keep it. i dont think they replace slot tickets, they said on them they dont written on them. plus they wont be good outside vegas. but im wondering if i bought 2 sports tickets, on opposite sides, one of which would win the other lose, of $4000 each couldnt i then go to the same sports book in reno (maybe william hill) and cash the ticket? id be paying some juice though. TSA wouldnt know its a winning ticket.

If you have to leave cash in a car, hide it in multiple strange places, ...and put LOTS and LOTS of stuff in the car, so thieves have no idea what to steal.

if i go to reno, im doing it to LIVE, so of course id need all the money. but maybe i could leave 10k in vegas if i knew id return to visit within 3-6 months.

Unless the TSA Agent is one of the 160 million football fans in the country. America truly is a great country if someone this naive has gotten this far.

We used to use a company called the NYPD Delivery Service. Its officially out of business but some of the guys still do an odd job here and there. Its not cheap but what is a good price for piece of mind?

You can fold a slot ticket and keep it tucked in your wallet in a slim magnetic address thing, they cost a few bucks downtown at the Fremont gift shops.
Obviously that wouldn't give you instant access to the cash, but I'm not sure why you need it all in one place.

I have never had an issue with lost, non cashed, non expired slot tickets when using a card. I have successfully cashed expired ones as well without using a card. I got FKed on an expired big one unfortunately.

Perhaps you need to look into bitcoin or something like that. It could go up or down by the time you get it cased out, but that's got to be better than giving up sports vig. I'm not sure how much people charge when buying BC. Since you play poker it shouldn't be to hard finding someone too buy and sell it.

You do know casino deposit money gets reported right? Depending on the location they report as little as a $2500 transactions.

i mentioned how they refused to give out a check because since the money was won on poker (mostly) instead of table games or slots, they say i have no proof of winnings. especially since i cashed out in the poker cage, and kept depositing cash a little at a time over several weeks isntead of chips.

couldnt this be done without paying sports vig, or would this look odd? lets say u deposit $8,000 in vegas in William hill or stations casino sportsbook, then withdrew it at their corresponding location in reno, without ever making a bet?

People have had their money frozen at WH for suspected structuring. They were not trying to structure, they just needed money to bet elsewhere. They had to make a deal or something like that, but they lost some money in the end.
