Blackjack basic strategy says not to double down with eleven against dealers ace. The casino where I play if you double against the dealers ace and dealer gets blackjack the casino only takes your original bet. Therefore under this play is it better to double on eleven against the dealers ace.

It depends on the rest of the ruleset, but most strategy info published for the US market assumes that the dealer checks for BJ first, unless otherwise stated, which is more or less functionally identical to only taking the original bet.
If I recall correctly, the only exception to doubling an 11 is in a 4+ deck S17 game. As if that exists anywhere...

See the Wizard's basic strategy page. This page shows strategy for blackjack with four to eight decks and where the player can lose only the original bet against a dealer's blackjack. Doubling down eleven against ace is basic strategy if the rule is "dealer hits on soft 17." And hitting eleven against ace is basic strategy if the rule is "dealer stands on soft 17."

The only BJ in Searchlight had those rules. However the casino changed ownership since I last played there.

As ChesterDog said it's correct to double 11vsA in a h17 game and also in a s17 game 2 decks or less, not sure about 3 decks.
Happy days are here again

Thank you for this information and checked the Wizards basic strategy page which is where I originally learnt to use it. Up till then I use to loose all the time now quite often win at Black Jack. My reasoning is if you double on the eleven and get 21 dealer gets black jack you loose anyway but dealer only takes original bet. If dealer docent get black jack there is a good chance you will win and double your bet. Seems like a better risk even though the dealer at the casino I play does stand on a soft 17. Appreciate your thoughts and not questioning Wizards basic strategy as is the best thing that has happened to help black jack players.
