Quote: DinAs long as you leave while they are on the same shift.
All shifts pool them together, they don't split into 3 different pools. The swing shift guys would make double what the graveyard guys made if that happened

And it shows up in your weekly check, not as cash at
the end of your shift. This isn't 1952.

Just curious: how many "cars" are "retrieved" per hour by a valet? how many cars are "checked in" per hour by the valet who writes me a ticket?

That's not how it worked at my place (not Vegas). Tips were put in the box and split by a manager whenever anyone arrived or left. We were paid in cash so it never hit our checks (which some people obviously like for the illegal tax dodging).
Graveyard guys got paid more hourly so it worked out but yeah, the evening shift made a fraction of the morning shift.
Either way, if you split your tips it works for both scenarios and you will get better service.

That is going to vary a lot by property, largely depending on the parking layout. At the placed I used to work, the parking was awful (tight) but on average parking a car took about 5 minutes. Pick up 3. Oversized cars 2x that. Overflow parking 3x.
Bigger places are likely 2x that.

Quote: Dina tip makes it less likely that the valet will steal from you or damage your car.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off comes to mind. On the other hand, on an episode of Seinfeld, Jerry's car was ruined by the valet's body odor, and tipping the valet probably would not have prevented the damage.
I've self-parked at a dozen or so Strip casinos, and Flamingo's self-parking garage was the least convenient.
I tip the valet when I pick up, though logically it really doesn't make sense.
There's a medical office building that I occasionally go to for a family member's doctor visit that offers valet-only. There's a big sign in the waiting area that says: "TIPS NOT ACCEPTED." I've never seen that sign in Las Vegas!!
