Quote: MoosetonI recently made a trip to another state and might have committed a felonious act without thinking too much about it. I received several W2Gs while I was there; I didn't want them to see that I was/am from Las Vegas because it might get them thinking that I was up to something ( i.e. advantage play, because I was). I still had my old i.d. from out of state and handed them that when it was W2G time. I realize im an idiot for not asking beforehand because this was premeditated. Was what I did illegal? Any advice?
Pretty sure they give the info to the Feds using your Social Sec., so it was still reported. Doesn't matter what your address is, as I've moved several times after getting W2Gs. You still will have to keep the form and declare the income.
Quote: MoosetonSweet! My old i.d. doesnt expire for a while so when I go back ill still be able to do that. :). Next question, should I still do that?
Does the form say they want your current address,
or does it just say address? It is or was your address,
I can't see anybody making an issue out of it. Just
so you pay the taxes, you aren't trying to defraud
anybody.

Quote: Beethoven9thJust out of curiosity, how did you manage that anyway? I thought Nevada DMV made one surrender an old license upon getting a new one?
Texas is supposed to do that too, but they didn't bother with me.
A - You've filed Change Of Address forms with the Post Office
B - You've provided the correct Social Security number
C - You ARE going to report this income on next year's 1040.
Bottom line, if you pay the tax, or legitimately declare offsetting losses, who cares about the details?
Quote: MoosetonWell at one point I had to give up my license. After that happened, I needed an i.d. Card at least. So I got just an i.d. Then when i got my license back, they didn't make me surrender my i.d. so I had two then. I only surrendered one Id when I moved.
Or you can just say you "lost" your old ID. Plausible enough in all the chaos if you just moved states.
Also, my state is supposed to take your old license if you change your address. But they recently started allowing you to file a change of address online and just have them send you a new DL. So I have 2 valid DLs now, one with my old address. I don't think this will ever come in handy (for AP or otherwise), but it's there...
