Somewhere, I've seen a freestanding piece of Craps backwall (with pyramid rubber) less than two feet wide for sale. IIRC, it was being marketed to dice setters wanting to practice at home. I am not looking for a full-size rubber backing. Just two feet or less to bounce dice off.
On a related note, does anyone have any experience buying perfect dice online? I am looking for the best price but keep getting a nasty noise-to-signal ratio created by people describing non-perfect dice as being "perfect for" one game or another. They don't need to be serialized, but I would like razor edges and flush pips. I am not looking for cancelled casino dice unless the cancellation is non-damaging (e.g., written in ink on the pips).
Also, I would like to have some custom chips made, ideally of clay, and wondered whether anyone had any experience buying those and could point me at a good price. I have no experience whatsoever in this area. I am not looking to buy a huge quantity. Just like maybe 500 or so, in various colors, max.
And I wondered whether those cheap six-deck shuffling machines on Amazon could be used as a CSM, or if you have to wait a minute or so for it to shuffle your cards. And if it's the latter case, whether there exists a functional CSM that can be had for under a hundred bucks.
Finally, I already have a very good Sic bo dome and a nice set of Chinese dominoes, but only have cheap Chinese paper layouts for those games. Wondered whether anyone knew of felt (or other cloth) layouts for those two games at lower prices than what the casinos pay. I have seen Craps, Roulette, and Blackjack layouts in the $20-$50 range and wondered whether anyone knew of anything similar for Asian games. I've had no luck at all hunting on my own.
I think that's about it. Thanks greatly in advance for any assistance; it is much appreciated!
I also wanted to mention that I have never shopped for custom chips before, so I have no idea what a good price is there, and would appreciate any assistance in that department.
Thanks again!
And the wool felt is more properly known as Mali (mahli?) cloth, at 21 ounce weight usually.
I forget the technical name for that pyramidal back wall rubberlike material.
Okay, so I think I've pretty much narrowed custom chips down to two different manufacturers. One of them will cost 0.16/chip, and the other 0.18. Are those good prices for chips with custom stamping in the quantities I'm looking for (~500)? Seemed lower than other sites, but, again, I've never even shopped for custom chips before.
Still no luck with Sic bo or Pai gow layouts. Found a professional-grade Sic bo layout on Amazon for a hundred bucks that I might end up going with, but I was really hoping to spend less than that. I might end up hitting up screen printers to see if I can get something made up for me cheaper. I'd just hate to have something like that custom made when I know there's gotta be something on the market, right? But I guess that way I could make my own payouts for Sic bo (Chinese Sic bo layouts have worse payouts than Las Vegas Sic bo layouts).
I probably am going to try out one of the shuffling machines on Amazon, but I don't have very high expectations. Problem is, I can't seem to find anybody who's used one, and I can't find anything else that resembles a CSM but doesn't cost hundreds of dollars.
No luck whatsoever finding perfect dice at less than about $10/stick, which is what I'm probably going to end up paying. I was really hoping to find some kind of decent quantity discount, but haven't had any luck there. I guess it makes sense -- casinos buy theirs in much larger quantities than I want, and dice setters don't need more than a stick or two.
Thanks again so much -- it really is appreciated!
Don't forget you leg garters, drink holders and above all, your own drop boxes. (Actually real drop boxes run about five hundred or so). And if you do print your own Sic Bo layout... don't make the mistake that casino in Biloxi did and give the player a whopping house edge.
Quote: FleaStiffIf its just going to be you and a boyfriend you might be able to get away with these miniature layouts but if this is for a home game room where you might bring outside friends or clients beware of those almost toy-like sized layouts.
High-stakes home games with friends (hence the desire for decent equipment).

LOL -- way ahead of you on that one. Here is my cheap paper Chinese Sic bo layout that came with my dice dome; like I innuendoed at above, it has worse than normal payouts, benefiting the layout's owner:
Specific triples pay 1:150 rather than 1:180; totals of 4 and 17 pay 1:50 instead of 1:60; 5 and 16 pay 1:18 rather than 1:30; etc. If I have to have my own made, those are the payouts I'm using. (I may reverse the order so that it's left-to-right like US layouts, though.) And as an aside, I'm now suddenly possessed of a burning desire to visit Biloxi.

I was actually looking at drop boxes on a few of the casino supply websites that I visited yesterday. They can be had for less than fifty bucks. I thought that it might be a fun thing to get. Maybe some of those fake dome cameras that they've got at hardware stores, too. And of course it wouldn't be the real casino experience without weak drinks. This is gonna be fun!

Don't forget the sexy young women in low-cut outfits, you don't want to make your guests be dealers

Why remind your guests of Terribles when you can remind them of the Bellagio .... and make more money as well. Serve them strong drinks!
Trademark Poker 19mm A Grade Serialized Set of Casino Dice (Red)
I got a stick of red and a stick of green a while back and in my opinion, they are the same quality as casino dice. Razor-sharp edges, flush pips, serial numbers.
Found a screenprinter that does tablecloths for trade show tables that I think I'm going to have do Sic bo and Pai gow layouts. Still not convinced that I can't get preprinted ones cheaper elsewhere, but damned if I've been able to find them.
Anyone ever tried getting holographic lettering stamped on chips? I am curious as to what it looks like.
Thanks again!
They might sell you a layout or know where you could obtain a new one.

Quote: sfdirpaH, I'm looking for a Sic Bo dome myself......any suggestions? Thanks, SF
I got mine on eBay and have been happy with it. Battery-powered dome, dome cover, dice for Sic bo, dice for Yee Hah Hi, and paper layouts for both games -- maybe cost ten bucks. I also got a very nice set of Pai Gow tiles (with dice and case) on eBay very cheap -- both that and the Sic bo dome shipped straight from China.
Here's a set on Amazon that looks the same as what I have.
