Dang! When the heck am I supposed to get my souvenir chip from Bangor? I've only been that far northeast in the states twice in my life, both times on visits into the Atlantic provinces. Maybe someday again....

They are opening up one soon in Oxford, ME, too. So at least you will have two to choose from. They are going to be run by the Silverton. (One of my favorite Las Vegas locals' joints).

Any word if this casino is 18+ or 21+, I believe the slot rooms in Maine were 18+.

I think the slots are 21 actually.
The casinos are going to be 21,
probably so they dont have to police the alcohol....
Because we cant have guys 18 drinking alcohol.
They can die for our "freedoms" though...

Kid that I used to run high school track against got hit my an IED in Afghanistan a few weeks ago, 19 years old. He survived but has some pretty serious injuries, may be in a wheel chair long term. Still can't drink a beer. Crazy.

The one good thing we do have going in this neck of the woods is Turning Stone, had somewhere to go when I was a young adult. Funny how I played responsibly during those years yet watched so many obnoxious idiots at my tables.

Go! if you love seafood.

I do. My first visit to Maine was in 1995, and I didn't get so far up as Bangor. I was making an extended driving trip with my wife and younger son, and we hit Niagara Falls, Ithaca (where the older son was soon going to be doing some graduate study), Albany, a ferry ride across Lake Champlain, then down to Boston. We spent a few nights there, and I said that since I'm closer to Maine than I've ever been before, I'm going to take a peak. We drove up one evening as far as York Beach, a little town we loved (have a small photo up on my condo wall), and had dinner at the Union Bluff Hotel (where we stayed on a return visit in 2003). Naturally, I had to order the lobster. Hey, we were in Maine!

We didn't get so far up in the state as Bangor until trips to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island in 2006 and 2010. Some day I'll get back that way and perhaps check out the Maine casinos. I have to ask, though: Why Oxford? Is there anything else there? If not, is that a reason for or against building a casino?

Doc,

This may be a dumb question, but if you mailed them say a dollar and postage and explained your situation, any chance they might mail you a souvenier chip, or is this sort of thing totally prohibited?

They might, but my collection is of chips I have gathered while visiting/playing at the casinos. I have no interest in accumulating chips from casinos I have never seen.

To be honest, I wouldn't might having chips from some of the Havana casinos from the 1950s or some of the classic Las Vegas strip casinos that closed before I first visited the facility, but those chips would not be part of the collection I have now.
