Yeah, I know how you feel. That's why I mentioned that I took the photos with my iPhone.

I think the problem is your web access. All the photos on page 1 of this thread total over 5 meg - just for the thumnails.

So here's ONE photo. As it happens, I put in the text describing it, but forgot to include the photo.

I also took a few pictures inside the elevators. The first thing is, all the elevators had the day of the week in the carpet. I guess on extended cruises, it's possible to forget what day it is. They could very well have put a little sign on every map with the day on it, but this was cool.

Years ago I had occasion to stay at a leftover colonial French hotel in Hanoi that had this same feature to their elevators. They had rugs with the days of the week in French that were so worn and threadbare as to suggest that they'd been there since back when the place was actually under French management (that is, pre-1950 or so; these were scary, cage-style elevators). I always thought it was a neat feature.

I wouldn't mind seeing how the iHype's photos rate.

My web access is just fine. I've been seeing photos and images and graphics here and in other sites all day long. Just not yours. they don't even show up as broken images. I can't even see any links. And Firefox just won't download your site.

The photos are pretty good for phone shots. Noise is a little high, but that's to be expected considering the lighting; otherwise the phone did a good job with autofocus and color fidelity.

Nice review, DJTB. I got a good feel for what it felt like to be there.

Nice write up, DJ. $1166.33 is 4,564 credits which is more than the 4,000 full pay that you would usually get with max credits. $312.50 is 1,250 credits.

My wife and I are likely cruising in February / March next year. Since it's just the two of us, we're going Celebrity. RCI is simply too big and caters to too many kids. We considered Princess, but the ships on Celebrity offer a better itinerary and better food options for us. Carnival had activities that we weren't interested in. We went to Hawaii instead thanks to a $4,000 fire bet win.

Cruisereviews.com gives you an incredible amount of information.

Like all cruise ships, they get you on alcohol and soft drinks. They surcharge fine dining as well. It's really a nickel and diming experience. when you book a cruise, you kind of expect that most things would be free, but alas, a great deal of things are not, and you can really spend a heck of alot of money on shore tours, alcohol, fine dining, internet, gyms, and of course, the casino. We were actually planning on a $1000 budget on top of the base cruise price for a 7 day cruise. Half of that would be for gambling. If you're not a gambler, I think you would factor in $100 for fine dining, $200 for drinks, $100 for a shore excursion, and $100 for other incidentals.

You picture that the cruise will always feature excellent weather, but you have to budget in days when the weather is crap. As well, you have to get used to the cramped quarters in your room.

I'm not surprised that the craps table only offers low odds and that 3-card is the stingy 1-3-6 table. I was happy to see blackjack at 3:2.

Oy. I just edited that post (the 9th post on page 1) to include this comment:
Edit: It's been pointed out to me that the jackpot is shown in dollars, and this is a quarter machine. Oops.

RCI is simply too big and caters to too many kids.

Are you going during a school break? We went second week in September. There were so few kids, that they actually had the kids pool area closed / empty. In fact, the only time I saw ANYONE under 18, was when I stumbled into the "no adults zone" next to the arcade. There were less than 10 kids in there - and they had no hesitation to tell me to get the hell out!

Yeah, I knew they were gonna nickel & dime some stuff. A week before my cruise, I saw a show, probably on Travel Channel, talking about all the different profit centers on the featured ship. That particular cruise was run at a loss since they had near break-even capacity (I think 92%), and it rained one day in port (excursions were way down). But they made up for it a bit in bar sales.

The only thing that really shocked me on the nickel & dime point was the charge for Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream when soft serve was free elsewhere. OK, B&J is about a million times better, but still. Right next to the B&J was the free cookies, and they are killer cookies. So no B&J for me!

The only other thing that surprised me is the tipping. On the last day, they provide envelopes: Cabin Steward, Dining Room Waiter, Dining Room Assistant Waiter, and Dining Room Head Waiter. It is understood that waiters in the casino and lounges, as well as bartenders, get immediate tips. But nothing for the buffet staff? They also provided a suggested tip schedule for these four people. Total for the 5 days for the 2 of us was about $100.

I don't know if there's a way to change it, but the res on one sample photo I looked at was 2048 x 1536.

Mind you these are not supposed to rival the quality of a nice SLR camera. They are supposed to rival the quality of an instamatic, or cheapo digital - i.e. the typical camera a non-photographer would use.

One feature I LOVE that my former digital camera didn't do is orientation. For those that don't know iPhones, when you turn them, the screen shifts from vertical to horizontal. The same for the camera app. I.E. When viewed in the photo app, or when the image is transferred to a computer, it is already rotated in the correct orientation.

Glad you enjoyed the trip! Mrs. Slyther and I have been on 6 cruises (4 Norwegian, 1 Royal Caribbean, 1 Disney). The paytables/rakes, etc you found are typical (aside from Disney, which does not have casinos on their ships).

On our last cruise we indeed sailed away without a couple, whom we saw running onto the pier as we pulled away. We felt bad for them. If you are on a ship-sponsored excursion they will hold the ship for you, which happened to us on our first cruise.

Hm. I'm used to thinking in terms of megapixels. According to my calculator, your phone has a 3 MP reolution, but the photos look a lot beter than that.

I understand photography rather well. In many ways I still prefer film cameras for some kinds of shots. I miss what you could do with an ISO 25 color film, for example. Anyway, I also understand digital photography rather well. For all that, I chose my latest camera on the basis that the casing was red and the preview screen was big :)

The big advantage of digital, BTW, is that if you have a laptop handy, or for some models a WiFi connection, you don't ever run out of room to store your pictures. With film, you had to be parsimonuous with your shots, lest you run out of film.
