I'm going with the wife to Harrahs Lake Tahoe the week of June 5. We are doing a day trip to Frisco, and one to Napa Valley, also a dinner cruise. I have checked to see what kind of bj games are available and it looks like the best is $100 game, 1 deck dbl 10-11 no dblas.
Could anyone please give me some firsthand observations on bj games, dining and anything that you feel is worth checking out.

Thanks in advance.

BJ should be $5-10 on weekdays, $10-20 on Friday night/weekends/holidays. Yes, Reno rules on doubling. Montbleu and Lakeside may have lower limits than the Harrah's properties.

Please tell me you're kidding about doing those "side trips". If you actually want to stay around Tahoe there's tons of stuff to do, although from what I hear of the snow they've gotten it'll still be too early to do any serious hiking.

We're going with another couple who want to check out fishermans wharf. Mohegansun is in my backyard so the casino action is nothing new to me. As a side note I gotta take care of the wife such as the dinner cruise and a show. I'm a city boy transplanted into ct. The only hiking I do is around my property.

People like to say Bay Area to Tahoe is four hours... it is if you leave at 10pm, are going to or from the East Bay and are willing to cheat the speed limit a little. From Harrah's parking garage to Fisherman's Wharf you're looking at five-plus. And San Francisco is one of those places where roads back up at odd hours for no apparent reason. I realize you may have little choice in the matter, but that's a lot of driving if you're going back to Tahoe the same day. If it's a few days and you're combining Napa in the same trip before heading back to Tahoe it's a little more reasonable. Anyway, I hope the sea lions are out.

When you go to the Napa Valley stay overnight. Drive down to Vallejo or Marin and take the ferry in to the City. It's a fantastic little voyage, with views of San Francisco you can't get anywhere else. From the Ferry Building in SF you can take the Embarcadero street car line(antique cars from many different cities) right to Fisherman's Wharf. Or walk about 3/4 blocks up Market St and grab the California St cable car to Chinatown and Union square. Believe me, for what you want to see, the ferry beats trying to park in SF any day, especially during tourist season!

So I'm going to Lake Tahoe in September for my 30th birthday. Can anyone provide a breakdown of the casinos? I plan on going to Harvey's and harrahs for sure but just curious if I could get thoughts, opinions, suggestions, etc...

There was a whole thread on Lake Tahoe casinos just under two years ago. Here is my post where I gave a very brief outline of some of the blackjack rules I observed.

So just when in September are your birthday and your trip? My wife and I will be at Harvey's from the 23rd to the 27th.

IMO, Fisherman's Wharf is not worth a 10 minute drive, let alone 4 hours. Other stuff in San Francisco may be pretty cool, but the Wharf is just a half-assed tourist trap.

I was in Tahoe about a month ago on a Monday noon ish. Every place was pretty dead except Harrah's. There's no more tables at the Horizon for over 2 years I heard. Big sad empty place. Harrah's had $10 and above games but craps for $5. Harvey's was the same. Montbleu same. Lakeside inn only had 2 BJ tables going on for $5 and craps was closed. Went to Carson Valley Inn like at 1030am and even they had 1 man craps. Collected my chips and kept going.

Anyway just stick to Harrah's/ Harveys period.
I CD-ROM.

My wife and I had a couple of good meals at the Cafe Del Soul at the Montbleu. In case you were literal, the Montbleu is in Stateline, NV, just across the line from South Lake Tahoe, CA.

Ha well actually we are staying in stateline. I was not being literal. We have a car for the 4 days so anything in the Tahoe/Stateline area is fine

I'm reviving this Lake Tahoe thread rather than starting a new thread for my question. That might not be a good decision, since my question is really about a casino in Carson City.

When my wife and I visited the Reno-Tahoe area two years ago, I had a plan for collecting a bunch of new souvenir chips. Almost everything went according to plan, but as I later posted in the Casino Chip of the Day thread:
Quote: Doc

When I got to the Carson Station casino in Carson City, I found that they were under new management and had closed their table games, probably due to a business downturn in the poor economy. That left me one chip short of my planned quantity of souvenir booty.

Well, I'm headed back to the area next Monday and I'm wondering about the current status of things at the Carson Station. Does anyone here know whether they have re-opened their tables?

On their web site, they aren't completely clear. I did find one page of promos with the comment:
Quote:

Receive entries each promo day, from 3 am to drawing time, for every 100 base points earned playing slots or video poker, for a suited Blackjack or for a 2 or 12 Craps roll.

That makes it sound as if they have both blackjack and craps in operation, but that promo page could be very, very old and obsolete. I would appreciate any input that anyone might have on the current state of things there.

I called the phone number and the lady said that craps and blackjack tables open at 4pm and stay open as needed. She said blackjack is still being played as of my call 2 minutes ago.

Excellent! Guess I was just too lazy to place the call myself. Thanks for the info.

Carson Station is back on my list of chips to get on this trip. :-)

I stopped by the Carson Station late this afternoon, and the tables were closed, so the info needs a little clarification. Craps is offered starting at 6pm, Wednesday through Saturday; blackjack is offered Wednesday through Sunday, but I didn't see any hours posted. I'll probably drop back by on Wednesday evening.
