Statistics on gambling in Panama
I was in Panama about 2-3 years ago. Gambling is legal there in the hotel zone, but the total revenue for the country is relatively small. What follows is for 2009.
Bingo Halls $0.8m
SPORTS BETTING EVENTS $8.7m
RACECOURSE $12.4m
GAME TABLES $48m
Slot machines $214m
TOTAL $284m
Total population of the country is 3.5 million, with about half of them in the greater Panama City area.
Any opinions on it's potential to become a gambling destination? They seem to be concentrating on eco-tourists like the Gamboa Rainforest Resort.

You should read the Wizard's blog entry. He was in Panama City last week. Very interesting report.
