I was reading a local article on a Maryland casino accusing Penn National of going against the opening of a competitor casino in Maryland. That didn't surprise me (after all, the Delaware casinos joined forces to say "Three is enough" to keep their monopoly too). What did surprise me in the article was that Charles Town Races and Slots accounts for 37% of all Penn National revenue.
I knew that CTRS slots were tight, and had read elsewhere that they were among the tightest slots on the east coast, but that note makes me believe it further. If that is the case, no wonder Penn National would want to derail a competitor's slots agenda. They would have to improve the odds at their bread-winner to continue to attract players.
Here's the article if anyone's interested in reading about the Maryland casino debate.

While I don't have hard data or PAR sheets for slot machines, just about every slot player I know has had better luck in Delaware than in WV, over the past 5 years at least.

Self-reported impressions of luck from a pool of unknown size relayed under social conditions are of doubtful utility. I would expect however that slot payout rates would be as high as the traffic would bear in a market with no pressure on it to lower them.

What's crazier is that the numbers just came out for July, and they made $5.66 in gross income alone for the month of July. The poker room made $3 million alone, and it wasn't only open 12 hrs a day during that period. To put the income in perspective, Hollywood Charles Town made more than all the other casinos combined for that month. As others have reported, the others in the Panhandle appear to be losing business to the Pa casinos.

Proximity to Atlantic City has to be a major factor.
