I haven't been to AC in over a decade.

I was surprised that all of the casinos that shut down recently were at the boardwalk.

I would have thought that the boardwalk would have given these casinos a competitive edge over the ones at the Marina.

You can easily walk between all the casinos connected to the Boardwalk. it was also a nice distraction in between the gambling, to clear your head incase you were on a losing streak, and just sit outside to enjoy the sun (weather permitting).

so What happened?
no more security at the Boardwalk? people no longer felt safe walking there?

I love the AC boardwalk. I walk between all of the casinos (Atlantic club to Revel), I never pay a taxi or drive. I sometimes walk with friends or alone, I never have felt in danger ever (granted I am a male, and in decent shape). AC boardwalk is great fun, I love the atmosphere, its a mix of old school and modern with the feel of a casino town. And in the summer its a lot of fun.

I think they closed because of supply demand issues, not boardwalk security. Though it is ashame that it was all boardwalk ones that closed. I hope they either reopen, get bought out, or used as something else. There is too many big empty buildings now...

The casinos in the Marina tend to be more modern. They probably attract more serious gamblers than the boardwalk (but that's just a guess).

This is just antidotal but if you had walked through the parking lot of the now closed casinos and then walked through the parking lot of the marina casinos you would have noticed a difference in the vehicles.
That was reflected in the budget of the patrons.

Take it to the ac thread.

Hahaha j/k
Lots of reasons for this to happen but most of it falls in the corruption and greed categories.

Well first and foremost, the marina casinos are newer, nicer, and better run.

I've never felt threatened on the boardwalk, even at night. That might be different at 2AM, but I've never felt the need to take a constitutional at that time.

I dunno. If you go to the marina casinos, you don't have to go to Atlantic City. Atlantic City is depressing. And you know what? Tropicana's City Walk, and the restaurants in it, are really nice. The outlet shops are really nice. The Pier is really nice. There are parts of it that are worth going to. But there's nothing else. Those are islands of niceness in a slum.

Isn't Harrah's newer? At least the hotel? Edit, looked it up. I was thinking of the Marina Tower.

So take out the newer, and leave nicer and better run.

interesting.. so when the new marina casinos opened, the low rollers stayed at the Boardwalk casinos.
Wonder why?

What is a "non-gaming" Casino?

Also, why is Bader Field labelled "Gaming"?

For one reason, the marina casinos discourage the day trip busses.

For another, the marina tends to have higher table minimums.

Easy. The Jitney Cabs DO service the marina casinos. But most tourists/day trippers don't take the Jitneys. Want to change casinos? Just go next door. Can't do that at the marina. Or at least that's what most people think. I recently (after patronizing the boardwalk for thirty years), discovered a great walkway between Harrahs and Golden Nugget, as well as from Harrahs to Borgata.

Slots on the boardwalk pay less. I'm sure that doesn't help beyond amenities being worse. In the end financing and debt has probably brought them all down. It's also just not cool for big spenders to play on the boardwalk. The ones who do tend to want a bigger bang for the buck in comps, so less profitable customers.
