I was surprised that all of the casinos that shut down recently were at the boardwalk.
I would have thought that the boardwalk would have given these casinos a competitive edge over the ones at the Marina.
You can easily walk between all the casinos connected to the Boardwalk. it was also a nice distraction in between the gambling, to clear your head incase you were on a losing streak, and just sit outside to enjoy the sun (weather permitting).
so What happened?
no more security at the Boardwalk? people no longer felt safe walking there?
I think they closed because of supply demand issues, not boardwalk security. Though it is ashame that it was all boardwalk ones that closed. I hope they either reopen, get bought out, or used as something else. There is too many big empty buildings now...
The casinos in the Marina tend to be more modern. They probably attract more serious gamblers than the boardwalk (but that's just a guess).
That was reflected in the budget of the patrons.
Hahaha j/k
Lots of reasons for this to happen but most of it falls in the corruption and greed categories.
I've never felt threatened on the boardwalk, even at night. That might be different at 2AM, but I've never felt the need to take a constitutional at that time.
I dunno. If you go to the marina casinos, you don't have to go to Atlantic City. Atlantic City is depressing. And you know what? Tropicana's City Walk, and the restaurants in it, are really nice. The outlet shops are really nice. The Pier is really nice. There are parts of it that are worth going to. But there's nothing else. Those are islands of niceness in a slum.

Isn't Harrah's newer? At least the hotel? Edit, looked it up. I was thinking of the Marina Tower.
So take out the newer, and leave nicer and better run.
Quote: ScanThis is just antidotal but if you had walked through the parking lot of the now closed casinos and then walked through the parking lot of the marina casinos you would have noticed a difference in the vehicles.

interesting.. so when the new marina casinos opened, the low rollers stayed at the Boardwalk casinos.
Wonder why?

access? how easy was it to get to the marina casinos by public transportation?

What is a "non-gaming" Casino?
Also, why is Bader Field labelled "Gaming"?
For one reason, the marina casinos discourage the day trip busses.Quote: 100xOddsinteresting.. so when the new marina casinos opened, the low rollers stayed at the Boardwalk casinos.

For another, the marina tends to have higher table minimums.
Easy. The Jitney Cabs DO service the marina casinos. But most tourists/day trippers don't take the Jitneys. Want to change casinos? Just go next door. Can't do that at the marina. Or at least that's what most people think. I recently (after patronizing the boardwalk for thirty years), discovered a great walkway between Harrahs and Golden Nugget, as well as from Harrahs to Borgata.Quote: 100xOddsaccess? how easy was it to get to the marina casinos by public transportation?
Ding, ding, ding! That's it, in a nutshell.Quote: MoscaWell first and foremost, the marina casinos are newer, nicer, and better run.
