We are in a very tight time schedule to make that July 2016 [opening] date

And Horseshoe Baltimore opening Aug 26 of 2014. It's about 45 miles from the MGM site, but in terms of DC-ish traffic, maybe not a short drive between the two.

FYI I live about 30 min or so from the new Horseshoe Balt. I drive by the building in the course of my business and the progress looks good. I'm sure the grand opening will be a success. I've heard rumors of a soft opening with limited games open and low betting limits starting 8/20. Not advertised or anything...just going to open the doors and let some people in. A few years ago DE Park did the same thing when they added table games. The limits were very low $5min $50 max at BJ. I played about an hour and cleaned up...many dealer errors. So maybe a small AP opportunity here. Or maybe not we will see...I'll report in if anything interesting comes to pass.

As to how far it is from National Harbor in PG county MD, to the Horseshoe in downtown Balt? With no traffic only about 45min. But unless you are going at 3am on a Tuesday, there is always traffic. I'd say on most days an hour or a little more would get it done. Interestingly the MD Live at Arundel Mills is almost exactly halfway in between the two. So once MGM at Natl Harbor opens (still 2 years away), you could get to three casinos between Balt. and Wash all within an hour in ideal traffic conditions. Should be interesting. MD Live is killing it business wise now. But obviously 2 large casinos opening up 1/2 hour away, one in each direction. Is going to hurt their business. I hope they lower the ridiculous minimums.

Thanks for this info -- somehow I had missed this before. On that date, I will be on a driving trip, heading back from New England to North Carolina. I won't likely be there on opening night, but I think I'll drop by the next day to pick up a souvenir chip for my collection.

When Horseshoe Cleveland officially opened, there were long lines to get in. But it was also the first real casino in Cleve-burg. So I'm not sure you would WANT to be in Baltimore on the opening day.

I live 15 minutes from National Harbor and have driven to MD Live a handful of times. That drive takes no less than 45 minutes with a handful of traffic slowdowns (As vend said, only at 3am on a Tuesday will you have absolutely no traffic). The problem tends to be on the B-W parkway for me, I've been stuck on that god forsaken highway for an hour (making the whole drive almost 90 minutes).

25 table poker room? I wonder how that's going to play?
MdLive's two stories are great and crowded, why would people leave?

Because every minute you are driving there and the added time to drive back to Baltimore, work , wherever is time you are NOT playing poker. Maryland Live's estimate is that revenue will drop 40%. Been to Maryland Live twice, native Baltimoron, disappoined both times. 40% might be low estimate.
Things were tighter, limits were higher, service worst on the second visit. Seemed like gouge em while we got em. That worked out great for AC.

You answered your own question. MD Live is a nice facility, but it's too crowded, by a lot. It's also in a freakin mall parking lot. There is no reason to go there other than the casino. The new Balt casino and eventually the Nat'l harbor one, will be much closer to other things to do.

Everything I've seen around from various news sites said the commission demonstration days will be the 18th and the 21st. Rumor is that the upper-limit for it will be $10 or so, but I have no idea if that's true. Once it actually opens, though, I'd be surprised to see anything less than a $25 game for a bit.

Does anyone know what hotel Horseshoe Baltimore is going to partner with and how that will work?

A demonstration day with a $10 upper limit would be acceptable for my chip-collecting objective, but I just can't be there on either the 18th or 21st. The 19th would be a possibility if I knew about it in advance -- that's the day I will be heading northbound from NC to NJ and beyond.

Looks as if I'm going to have to wait until my return trip brings me back by there on the 27th and just hope that mid-day craps limits are tolerable.
