So my wife and I booked a trip to Tahoe next weekend for my 30th birthday... And then we found out about 2 weeks ago she is pregnant. Non refundable hotel and rental car. She doesn't want to be in a smokey casino now and I don't really want her to either. Can anyone tell me if there are non smoking sections in Harvey's or Harrah's? And of course since it is my first time going to Tahoe any suggestions of must do or see non casino attractions and dining options would be welcomed. We have a rental car so driving a few miles would be fine

I was in Tahoe over 4th of July, and I didn't notice whether Harvey's or Harrah's had a non-smoking section. Up until 5 years ago, Tahoe had an entire casino that was designated non-smoking (Bill's). It's now a CVS drug store.

If you're into nature & wildlife, be sure to check out the Taylor Creek underwater viewing platform. If you're into history, I'd suggest a sidetrip to Virginia City (about an hour away). Another cool history spot is the Tallac historic site: 100 years ago it was Tahoe's grandest casino. The only boat tour I've been on is the Tahoe Queen. I had a great time on the Tahoe Queen (the boat was almost empty) though a friend had a terrible trip because it was too crowded. The Heavenly gondola offers spectacular views of the lake, but the price is probably too steep (pun intended) for me to recommend it. (I've never been on the Sqaw Valley tram, so not sure how it compares to Heavenly). If you're gambling on a budget, I'd recommend the Nugget in Carson City. For a long time the Nugget had $1 craps, but I think it's $2 now. (But beware, the Nugget is SMOKEY.) I'd also recommend driving around the entire lake. I think the most beautiful spot is Crystal Bay, but that's just my subjective opinion. My favorite beaches are Baldwin beach and Pope Beach.

My mother smoked like a chimney when she was carrying
me and look how I turned out. On second thought..

Congratulations to you both. Sorry that my wife and I will miss you by a day in Tahoe (unless your schedule has changed, which it looks as though it has not).

Bill's closed at the beginning of 2010, after three years as a non-smoking casino. Apparently the concept was viewed as a failed gimmick because I don't think you'll find any escape from the smoke at either Harrah's or Harveys.

I haven't visited Tahoe recently, but my technique is to start at Horizon. Walk in to the casino, look around and inhale deeply. Then you can go to any other property and it will seem like paradise by comparison.
