Also, can someone confirm that the limit is $500 or more per number? And do you have to make a pass bet to play the free 4,10? Would you get heat for only betting 4,10? More importantly, is the free 4,10 still ongoing? I called and asked for games, and no one ever picks up.
I promise to submit a good TR with pics.
I called the Star, inquired as to my players card number. They looked me up based on my ID, and the person informed me that I was not allowed to place bets at the Star, but that I could speak to a casino host. If I go back to Sandia, I will go back and try to plead my case at the Star, maybe blame it all on the dealers, and promise to behave.
Quote: klimate10So I've been looking at a trip to Sandia to play their 4,10 free odds, and the rooms are starting at $200 per night. How can any hotel in the middle of New Mexico charge $200? I thought only cacti, buzzards, and $10/night hotel rooms existed in NM.
And golf - there's a golf club on the property, and if I am reading the site correctly, $200/night for a single gets you a round of golf per day (normally something like $70 during the summer).
I'm betting $200 - $500 a number, but I am betting on bets that have a zero HE. If you review my old Santa Ana Star review, I shot a pic of my comp dollars, which were pretty generous at first. But as time went on, they started realizing that they were making no money off me, because after a while, I even stopped betting pass bets and would stick exclusively to field and 4,10. That's when they stopped comping my rooms and then got really stingy on the food comps. It was a miracle they even comped me any food, after I stopped pass betting.
Casino resorts in the middle of nowehere can charge an arm and a leg as it's the only game in town. Foxwoods and Mohegan are the same - very expensive to stay on the property.
Gambling junkies are happy to stay at the Fleabag 6 up the road; their wives not so much.
Quote: boymimboMy wife was going to take me to Sandia for my 40th. When she told me how much it was going to be, I told her to book something else. I think we ended up driving down to AC IIRC.

Harrah's Cherokee is quite bad for that as well.
Even some of the fanciest hotels in Vegas, like the Aria can be had for $200 a night.

On behalf of the 1.2 million residents of the Albuquerque area: Middle of nowhere?!? :-)
Its only a two mile drive to Motel 6 and you can get a room with two full beds there, non smoking. That same two mile drive yields a few such chain motels. At Thirty Dollars a Night, the chain motels sure beat a 200.00 a night on-site room, unless its a guaranteed comp.Quote: klimate10I wonder if they really expect people to pay those outlandish rates, or if it's just a schtick where they comp the rooms to their gamblers and then say, 'we gave you a $200 comp'!

When I was in Albuquerque, I only saw buzzards, cacti, and a guy with a sombrero riding a mule.

Hey, that was me, and it was not a mule but a burro. He doesn't take kindly to being called a mule.

Mule, mulatto, it's all insulting!!
I'm not driving out there unless they have a free 4/10. She could have understood my question to mean is there like double points, seniors nights, free $5 craps coupon, etc. She had no idea what free buy 4/10 meant. Can someone please help?
I'm not sure I know what "free" and "buy" mean when together? Most casino's if not all are going to welcome $500.usd action even if you don't perceive them having an advantage. It's never been about the "edge" except at slots, it's about money and money management. They have a lot of chips, almost unlimited. Players don't. The most daunting thing at an Atlantic City craps table is the amount of money(chips) they keep on the table. It lures you into you know what.
However, next call try speaking Spanish. It is basically Mexico or close enough.

Its not really a language barrier as the word "manana" barrier. And ain't nobody operating more disorganized "manana" type places than in the Land of Disenchantment.
Frankly, I'd go to the much-troubled poker room at the M resort and ask their distraught poker room manager to find out for you and get back to you on it. He loathed everything about New Mexico when he worked at a casino there but he made contacts and can probably find out for you. Really, its a sort of "I won't answer your question today, and maybe never, but not today" type of State. But cheer up, you are dealing with the best managed casino in that state! At least at Sandia they will eventually try to answer a question about someone else's department, but it worse than pulling teeth.

Sandia and Santa Ana are like 30 miles apart. If you drive out and Sandia doesn't have the free buy on the 4 and 10, you can always hop back in the car and go to Santa Ana. Or go to the Balloon Museum. That's cool, too...:-)

Or the neon beacon called Route 66 casino a little ways west on the highway. Can't miss it, especially at night.
Here is the deal, to my best recollection. You do not need a $5 pass line bet as far as I know to buy numbers, but it's only $5 if you needed to. It's 5x odds for pass/come bets.
To counter the other places free 4/10 bets, about a year ago, they began offering the free buy on them if you place it for $20 or more. No commission, no Vig. Pays 2:1.
I think the limit is $1000 per number, they may go higher with prior arrangements. I believe the limit on Field and Center bets is $500 each.
There is a regular, once every month or 2, visitor I've seen who buys in for 20-30K per session. Who will play and have $100's out, buying inside numbers. They cater unbelievably to this guy. He'll play 6-8 sessions, 4-6 hours each, over a weekend. They cater unbeliveably to this guy. Free cigarettes, room, food, etc.
Let me know if you need any more information.
So the lady on phone was wrong?
I will be heading out there next week.
There are no signs or notices posted about the 4/10. You'd have to be a regular or smart gambler to know about it.
I also have a host. If you'd like her name. I'll PM it to you. I got a roof top restaurant comp one time. They're very stingy with comps unless you're betting greens and blacks.
Btw, drinks on me, if you are there. I'll be easy to spot, as I'll be the guy betting 200-500 on 4/10 with no pass bet, next week. Lol

I like Albuquerque, but it is definitely the middle of nowhere. New Mexico is 130,000 square miles and has population of 2 million. The borough of Queens is 100 square miles and has a larger population than all of New Mexico.

He's banned from craps at Santa Ana!
Isleta Casino and Resort (formerly Hard Rock Casino Albuquerque) also offers a free buy on the 4 and 10. They also offer 20x odds. I've heard the rooms are fairly nice, as they are only a few years old, but I do not know their rate. The casino is located about 10 miles south of the Albuquerque Sunport.
