And I got a good reason for violating that rule:
I take a very im view of using Private Messaging for this sort of thing. Why does this person think his question isn't better asked of the general public? Why does he think he should get an exclusive response? I'm either going to give my opinion publicly, or not at all.
And wouldn't he benefit from multiple opinions?
My response was: "Frankly, you should ask this on the forum."

to stay there with my dog for 6 days, is it worth it?
To answer the question, I say no.
I just checked my own rates for some random dates, compared to the other AC CET properties. I am shocked to see that ShowBoat is not always cheapest. In fact, on some days, it is second most expensive. ShowBoat is run-down. It's the ugly step-child of the AC properties. It doesn't deserve rates that high.
$1,000 is way too high. For a random week in May, six nights Sunday thru Friday (check out Saturday), my rate is around $400 at ShowBoat. Maybe it's considerably more for a pet room.
Note that on some days, Harrah's is cheaper. Also, I can't recall much in the way of grass or trees for a dog area around ShowBoat, but there's plenty around Harrah's, including a nice, 10 minute walk from Harrah's to Golden Nugget that crosses no streets, and has plenty of grass and trees. (On a side note, I recall a dog walking area at Imperial Palace that was a fenced in area about 10' x 30'.)
Of course, Harrah's is on the marina, so you are disconnected from the boardwalk and the main AC casino row. But even without the dog considerations, there's no way I'd pay those rates for ShowBoat.
ShowBoat's bool sucks. I don't know about it's spa. I can't recall that it even has one. I do know that Harrah's pool is the nicest of the AC CET properties. On the other hand, weather permitting, with SHowBoat (and Bally's and Caesars), you got the beach.
Casino-wise, I'm mostly into Craps and Poker. I much prefer both Bally's and Harrah's over ShowBoat for those.
Frankly, the only thing ShowBoat has going for it is that it's next to Revel.
Having said that. It does have some advantages...it's on the boardwalk which is important to some people. The north end of the Boardwalk has the best beach now due to the Revel related beach replenishment in that area. It's next to the Revel, which for all its faults is still a beautiful facility, and worth checking out. The staff at the boat have always been friendly and nice, in keeping with their "we are the little guy in town", approach. In addition for a fleas sized bettor they will appreciate the action much more than Caesars or Harrahs which would't even notice. The table game limits are noticeably lower usually, and the "high limit" pit usually starts at $50 for BJ, which gets you S17 instead of the H17 that is so common in AC. So take it easy on the red headed stepchild of AC. :)

At least your response wasn't to ask him why he was calling his wife/girlfriend a "dog".
BTW, I have never stayed at the Showboat, so I have no input.

Quote: onenickelmiracleShowboat I hated, Harrahs I liked, both because of ambience. It is easy enough to take the CET shuttle or a jitney to the boardwalk with no problem. Harrahs is just nicer and I love the smell of the place. All the places just quote absolutely ridiculous Friday and Saturday rates most of the time and if you avoid them then, the costs come way down.
You like the smell? That's an interesting one. Maybe they are covering something up?
And they have that dog dish of a pool on the roof surrounded by industrial condensers!!Quote: DJTeddyBearFrankly, the only thing ShowBoat has going for it is that it's next to Revel.
Harrah's, as well as Borgata, are situated on wetlands that include the municipal sewage treatment plant. That however has not seemed to hurt their fortunes.Quote: AhighYou like the smell? That's an interesting one. Maybe they are covering something up?
