I haven't visited San Diego in a while, and I will probably go soon. While I was there, I was thinking about checking out the Barona (I've never been there). I have a few questions:

1. What are the blackjack conditions like? The wizard did a survey on this, but it is pretty old. There's an update (also kind of old) saying that they removed the good single deck game from the high limit room. What did they replace it with? The double deck rules listed on the survey are decent, but not great for high limit room standards.

2. This is a casino on tribal land, right? That makes it fall under some combination of Federal, California, and Tribal law that I don't understand. Bottom line: what will happen to me if I get caught counting? According to Wikipedia, the BJ HoF is housed there, and all members have lifetime RFB there in return for an agreement never to play blackjack there, so it sounds like they have a fairly enlightened attitude. I just don't know if that attitude is extended to everyone, or just the famous people. For the record, I don't mind being backed off or barred (that's their right, as far as I'm concerned) but I expect to be paid what I won and allowed to leave.

I have heard that they are sweaty. I believe this was from BJ21 or possibly here, but I remember someone saying not to take the BJ HoF there as some sign that they have a romanticized attitude toward counters. I.e. just because the exhibit is there and Max Rubin hosts the BJ Ball and all that good stuff, they still back off your usual counter as much as or more than a typical place.

The above is all second hand, so take it with a grain of salt. Report back what you find!

Oh, as I said, I think that they have every right to back me off or bar me. If they catch me, good for them! It has never happened yet but you never know. If that happened I would be more annoyed with myself than them.

I am more worried about not getting paid / getting backroomed / getting robbed / getting arrested. If I'm in Nevada I know that there are laws that protect me, and, if I'm wronged, I can sue for a nice sum of cash. I have no idea what set of laws there are here (as I said, some combination of federal, state, and tribal laws) and I have no idea how uniformly they are applied.

Maybe I am just being paranoid (in fact, I probably am) but I am a little nervous going in without understanding how things work.

But as far as counting goes...i have no idea...
However, all the staff seemed very friendly...
