WoVCon 1.5 should take place at the Rio Friday May 11th around 10 PM, from whence it ought to move across the street to the Gold Coast in search of $5 craps on a weekend night.
Now, I don't reall who said was going to come aside from TIMSPEED, Doc, and myself. So anyone else planning to attend please post.
There's no specific meeting place suggested as yet. I thought I'd propose the Carnival World Buffet entrance, right where the Rio shuttles debark passengers. But that's just to spare me some more Vegas walking.
WoVCon ][.1 (or is that ][.[?) was Tiltpoul's idea. The objective is to watch "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" at the Plaza in Downtown. As I recall, the atnedee list so far is Tiltpoul, Doc and Mrs. Doc. I don't believe there's a date set.
For communication, there's the board and cell phones. I'll have a laptop along, but not easy WiFi access (I'm trying not to pay any outrageous fees), and I won't have a cell number until May 6th, but I'll PM it to any interested parties then.
I think that pretty much covers everything.
The buffet entrance at Rio sounds like a good meeting spot to me. It's easy to find and on the right side of the building to head next door.
I can't do WOVcon][.]. The show looks good, but Sunday night is my only chance on this trip to throw money at the casino that I'm actually staying at (Sunset Station) and I think I need to do that.
I'm thinking of driving to Laughlin on Saturday evening. Partly, because I figure that's the best time to try to get the BJ table at CalNevAri opened. If anyone's up to join me, I'll have some space in the rental car. My current plan is to drive back to Vegas that night, but I might grab a room at Harrah's Laughlin in case it gets too late.
Quote: rdw4potusI am in for WOVcon 1.5. I think the 10pm time in-part supports my late flight. If you all would rather start earlier and stake out a table at the Gold Coast, please don't wait on my account.
I think TIMSPEED (sorry if I get the nick wrong), originally proposed this time as it fits his travel plans. What time do you get in?

As I said, to spare me more walking :)

Assuming no delays, I'm wheels down at 8:30, then I need to rescue the rental car and check in at my hotel before they give all the non-smoking rooms away. I figure I should be at Rio/Gold Coast by 10ish.

That's a bit tight. I imagine things get a bit crowded in vegas on Friday evenings. I'll PM you my cel number as soon as I get a chance to, hopefully before Friday.
I'll probably be spending from 3pm-10pm looking around Vegas...
Craps at GC works for me, as I want to keep my play within a Boyd property.
I will be doing a tour of North Las Vegas casinos that day, so 10pm works great for me. If anybody needs a cell to contact me, I can give it out via PM.
Quote: TIMSPEEDI'll probably be spending from 3pm-10pm looking around Vegas...
I'll be taking a nap :)
The two hour difference really gets me. On my first trip, back in '08, I was getting up at 5:30 am, and just about ready to fall over by 9 pm. I did better on latter trips, but it still takes some getting used to. Taking a nap in the afternoon really helps.
Quote:Craps at GC works for me, as I want to keep my play within a Boyd property.
Then craps at the GC it is. Hopefully we can find a few spots open...
Here's the list so far:
TIMSPEED
rdw4potus
Doc (w/Mrs. Doc?)
Tiltpoul
Nareed
Meeting place at the Rio Carnival World Buffet entrance around 10 PM Friday May 11th. From there we walk to the Gold Coast.
I'll be PMing my cell number to everyone on the list as soon as possible. Or you can PM me your numbers and I'll text you mine when I can.
What if we were to look for a craps game downtown instead? That would save Nareed the trouble of riding a shuttle, those of us staying at Rio could perhaps share a ride if we want, either California or Main Street Station would meet the Boyd Gaming preference, and it shouldn't make too much difference on rdw's ride in from the east side. Is MSS as likely as Gold Cost to have a $5 game on Friday nights? Are they more/less likely than Gold Coast to have room for a small group of us to join a table together?
Any interest in this or does the suggestion just throw the plans off track?
If we were to go that direction, my wife and I might opt for the buffet at Main Street Station that night.
I truely wouldn't mind rolling craps downtown anyway...for the "Golden Arm Challenge", haha.
I may have some family with me when we get together friday night (maybe my cousin and her husband, but I dunno)
Quote: DocAny interest in this or does the suggestion just throw the plans off track?
No preference, as I have a car this trip. The only thing about going downtown on a weekend evening is the parking... I know we can carpool but Gold Coast would hit those of staying at Rio without the worry of parking. I feel safer parking my car at Rio than downtown.
That being said, I don't care wherever the game is.
Quote: DocWhat if we were to look for a craps game downtown instead? That would save Nareed the trouble of riding a shuttle,
That's very thoughful of you, but really it isn't a problem at all. I'm used to going up and down Vegas. I even think I'll take the monorail to skip some Strip traffic. The stations at the Not-a-Hilton-anymore or the convention center are quite convenient to reach by bus. Then it's just a free shuttle ride.
I imagine all Vegas is crowded on Friday evenings. It would be antural for most weekend travelers to arrive on Friday and to try to make the most of their time, especially those flying back early on Sunday. But I'm also assuming a local's joint might be a little bit less full than the tourist hotels and areas. Can anyone confirm this?
Quote: TIMSPEEDi'm down for MSS craps, and like you, I'll probably do the MSS buffet.
I truely wouldn't mind rolling craps downtown anyway...for the "Golden Arm Challenge", haha.
See my post, and Tiltpoul's. But I'm ok with etiher venture. Just so long as we're not still debating where to meet by Thursday of next week ;)
Quote:I may have some family with me when we get together friday night (maybe my cousin and her husband, but I dunno)
Cool. I'm listing attendance solely as general info.
Quote: TIMSPEEDI say we go play $1 craps at Joker's Wild, LOL!
At least I had some reasonable rationale for my suggestion. I think you're just trying to mess with us. ;-)
Quote: DocAt least I had some reasonable rationale for my suggestion. I think you're just trying to mess with us. ;-)
I'm staying at Sunset Station, so JW works for me. There...reasonable rationale? :-P
Seriously, downtown or GC works for me. I do need to stop by Rio at some point in the evening, though.
Quote: TIMSPEEDI'm just wanting to play where I can win...and not lose...so whichever casino that can happen at, I'll be there. LOL!
Would it be an acceptable alternative if the drink service was so frequent that you couldn't remember if you won or lost?
Quote: teddysEven Rio might have a $5 game. It's been known to happen...
You know, there is a hint of truth in that. Last summer, I was at Harrah's at prime time on a Saturday evening and they were running a $5 in one of the pits (the party pit I think). Rio is a step above Harrah's in Vegas terms, but there is a slight chance they will offer the limit. However, will we all be able to get a spot on that table? That's more of the question...
I'm willing to meet and play a $5 game at Rio, Gold Coast, or Downtown, but I agree with Nareed that we should have this resolved before we all head out of town, unless we have good means of communicating later. Maybe I should never have mentioned my "alternate plan".
Quote: DocMaybe I should never have mentioned my "alternate plan".
Why not? What if everyone had liked it?
Quote: TIMSPEEDWell, how about MSS..that way at least we have more low-limit options if we can't ALL get on the $5 crap table, we can go over to another Freemont casino..
Sure. You have three Boyd properties to choose from, too. MSS, California and Fremont (but I think the latter is only 2X odds).
Where would parking be more convenient for all of you? And where should we meet? I don't know the MSS, so I won't offer a suggestion. Except, well, Downtown is pretty small. So if parking is more convenient at, say, the GN, we could meet there and walk to MSS.
MSS has a brew pub, which is where last June's WOVcon was. Maybe we could meet there?
If MSS is the destination of choice, there are several suitable meeting spots: bottom of the escalator coming down from the bridge, the Triple-7 Microbrewery, the crap table itself, .... A couple of us have already said that if we are heading to MSS, we will likely eat in the buffet, so we could meet around there. I think the most important thing is to decide on the destination. Then, it should not be too hard to recognize/find each other.

The buffet sounds good. It's also the easiest place to find in most casinos. What time are you planning to eat? Most buffets close at 10.
Quote:I think the most important thing is to decide on the destination. Then, it should not be too hard to recognize/find each other.
Oh, there's the cell phone recognition trick. When you get there, you call the person you're looking for and tell her "I'm the one waving" :)
I think that we had originally talked about meeting at 9, except that rdw4potus didn't expect to be able to get there until more like 10. If I were the one setting the schedule, I think I would plan to show up at the buffet by 7:30 or 8, meet for gaming at 9, and hope that my money hadn't run out before rdw got there.
Quote: DocThe Friday buffet at MSS is their seafood buffet and is their most expensive of the week: $21.99 with a player's card, in case that is a shock to anyone.
That's too bad. I don't eat any fish or seafood. But I can loan you my Boyd card if you don't want to bother getting one.
Quote:If I were the one setting the schedule, I think I would plan to show up at the buffet by 7:30 or 8, meet for gaming at 9, and hope that my money hadn't run out before rdw got there.
Nine it is. How about by the buffet exit?
This plan works for me and my wife, if it does for the others. I'm still open to the other plans. Anyone staying at Rio who wants to ride with us, let me know so we can coordinate.
Now if folks would prefer to dine elsewhere, downtown or otherwise, we can do that instead. The Triple-7 at MSS has food, and the menu is available here, though that one is dated Summer 2011. Wherever we play and wherever we eat, I think meeting for the tables at 9 and letting rdw join when he can get there is a reasonable plan.
Quote: DocThere is plenty available on the buffet other than seafood, but on Friday night you have to pay for the "opportunity" to pig out on crab legs, even if that is not something you would do. They just don't offer an everything-but-the-seafood price for that night's buffet.
I assumed as much. I'm not cheap, but I really hate to overpay. But let's not get into that.

I'd feel terrible if I kept you away from something you want. In any case, I'd assumed meeting around 9-10 at teh tables, so I agree that's a reasonable plan.
However, 9pm at MSS is fine by me. Again, wherever you guys decide you want to meet, I'm game.
We'll meet Friday may 11th at 9 pm at the MSS. Where exactly? Rdw4potus might join us a little later. In any case the idea is to find a $5 craps game.
We'll try to exchange cell phone numbers before then.
Now about WovCon ][.1, Tiltpoul should take the lead on that one.
Quote: NareedNow about WovCon ][.1, Tiltpoul should take the lead on that one.
You're right, I should.
So this is kind of a last call for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas at the Plaza on Sunday evening. It begins at 7pm, though after meeting everybody at WovCon, we'll at least know faces and stuff. It looks like it's General Admission, though there is a dinner option before hand. There is also VIP seating, which probably means it's in an old showroom. I will call tomorrow and find out if we can block book an area. Seats in GA are 59.95 + fees, VIP 69.95 + fees.
So far I have Doc, Mrs. Doc and myself. Anybody else?
As I said, the show is a rocking good time. It's probably going to be on the border of a strip show, though the original wasn't. When I read the little blurb just now, it looks like they are emphasizing the beauty of the ladies. I'm sure the guys are studs too (unlike the musical that I was in, where none of the guys could be considered studs).

Quote: loachHere's my question: If I happen to show up to meet you guys at 9pm on Fri night at MSS for craps would you throw things at me and run me out of town if I'm playing the "don'ts"??
Of course not. We'd tie you up and lay you down on the train tracks ;) It is a STATION after all.
Seriously, I haven't mentioned it, but I thought of propposing we all play the Dark Side on Friday (even though I can't afford full laying of the odds). And even mroe seriously, you're welcome to join us at either venue on Friday and Saturday.

I'd say you're safe from being run out of town, but you should probably count on some good-natured ribbing as the table ebbs and flows.

I hate to be sunshine on a rainy day, but I am not a dark side player. I like rooting to WIN, not lose.
all for the benefit of losing $5 less per $10,000 wagered.
some people just can't get enough abuse, i guess.
Quote: DocI have enjoyed playing with and toying with dark side players, so you are welcome to join us. Please do. I don't think I could move to the dark side on a regular basis myself -- maybe one hand. Sorry, Nareed.
Well, this just spares me the expense of getting Darth Vader helmets for all :)
I play differently the pass than the don't. On the Light Side, I usually play only a pass line and odds plus a come bet and odds. On the Dark Side, I'll do the line bet with odds and two or three don't come bets with odds (BTW not necessarily full odds, but whatever I can afford). I know that's pretty tame and simple compared to what I read about on the board. perhaps I just need mroe time on the table to get more comfortable with the game.
-Loach
Quote: loachI have a similar play style Nareed except I almost always lay full double odds. Never play the "light side".
I can manage full double odds. If you come I'll play Dark Side with you, even without a Darth Vader helmet. There's nothing quite like the thrill of seeing a 7 and have 3 or 4 bets pay off at once.
