I never understood the fuss over the NYC Times Square Ball drop. I think it barely beats paint drying. Of course, I'm not a New Yorker, so that's a big part of the problem.

What say you?

It's not the ball drop per se, but the drunken partying on the street, with a million of your closest friends, that makes it an event.

Throw in the chance to be on TV...

If you're there, the ball drop is more of an indicator that it's time to continue the party inside where it's warm.

Sort of like watching paint dry but soaking up alot of booze while doing it and then getting to kiss a variety of nearby females.

I was there once in the early '80s, and it was one of the most amazing nights of my life. Through a series of chance encounters my girlfriend and I wound up at 3AM at a party in the penthouse apartment of Rockefeller Center. It had parquet floors made of slivers of wood like matchsticks. I wouldn't trade that night for any other New Years Eve in my life, ever.
