Anyone know any tips on getting a decent rate for
a rental car in Florida ?

Yes, the Orlando area, and yes, during the Christmas
break. Rates down there look a good 75 % higher
than getting a car up north.

We might end up renting a car and driving it down
and back, about 2200 miles.

I live in Orlando, and frequently park my car off the airport at Payless. They also rent cars. Just did a quick check online, and saw a weekly rate of $350 compared to $650 for Avis.

I took the family to Disney 6 months ago, and rented a car for a week through Enterprise. We had a mid-size, I think it was a Hyundai Elantra? Had no problems and I think the whole cost was about $250. However, we flew into and out of Tampa, so maybe it was cheaper renting it from there instead of in Orlando.

If you haven't purchased air fare yet, you may want to consider flying into Tampa and renting the care there, instead of flying into Orlando. I saved $400 for my family doing it that way, and got more convenient flight times too. It's only an 80-85 mile drive from there to Orlando.

Thanks.

Right now, I'm looking at SWA being cheaper to go
into Orlando.

And a website I found on google has good rates
for cars from 12/20 to 12/27. But move that 1 day
later and the rates skyrocket up.

But I don't know my daughter's exam schedule
yet at school, so that could push me into the higher
priced flights AND rental car.

Looks like we are going to drive it. Finding
airfares just got to be too complicated and
expensive.

Because it's such a long drive, and because
the rental car rates at the regional airpeort
are so reasonable, I plan on renting a
premium car and putting the miles on it
instead of my own car.

If anyone else is heading down to Orlando,
here's a great hotel deal:

Rosen Shingle Creek ( Wierd name,
very upscale resort, though ). $ 69
per night if you use BOOKIT.COM
and mention TRAVELZOO.

There is a 1-888 # for BOOKIT.COM,
but I don't have it handy right now.

$69 for the Shingle Creek resort over the holidays does seem like a spectacular deal. Congrats!

For what it's worth, I get a weekly e-mail from
TRAVELZOO.com with about 20 deals they
have found.

That's why we stayed at Planet Hollywood
Towers in a junior suite last summer. That
is our new favorite place to stay in LV. At
least when the rate is around $ 89 for
such nice accomodations.
