So it's just a get together between people who know each other to varying degrees. A way to spend a pleasant day in vgeas, nothign more.
That's enough, too. And it's a worthwhile tradition to establish, IMO. Of course while there has only been one WoVCon, the idea goes back to the Wizard Coffees our host and site owner started.
Anwyay, having seen comments on dates and having checked with the Wizard, I'm propposing now Saturday May 12th or May 19th. I could make it for May 5th, too, but I expect airfares from mexico will be higher then (we celebrate May 1st as Labor Day and May 5th as the Battle of Puebla, or Cinco de Mayo).
The idea is that this way we can attract both weekend travelers and thsoe visitng Vegas for longer periods. As I'll be on vacation, weekend or weekday si the same to me. I would like to ask all other locals for their opinion, in particualr Paco and Dan, whom I'd love to meet.
I've thought about a location, probably Downtown, but I need to check some thigns first. Ditto for the challenge, if any.
As for activities, I'm sure we can have a trivia contest, either if the Wizrd wants to do another one or I'll prepare one on my own (mine will be tough but essentialy fair), and of course if the rest of you want to. To spice it up a little, I'll bring a small, mostly symbolic, prize to be given to the winner.
Gambling next. I wouldn't mind a repeat of this year's poker game, but this year's attendees might find it monotonous. Next choice is to play a game with a large enough table, which is either simple or we all know how to play. That leaves me with craps and baccarat. Good craps is easy enough to find Downtown, but I don't know about baccarat. I don't suppose there's a big table version Downtown, but I suppose there may be a midi table or two.
That's pretty much it. Should things run long, we'd look for a place to have dinner.
Quote: HotBlondeI just realized my birthday falls on Mother's Day next year. That sucks.
That does suck! Belated Bday celebration in Vegas on the 19th? :-)
I never celebrate my birthday belated! I always celebrate ON my birthday. I'll for sure be in Vegas that weekend. Hopefully people will want to get together that weekend or else I'll have to miss the event again :(Quote: rdw4potusThat does suck! Belated Bday celebration in Vegas on the 19th? :-)

I second the motion :)
Actually I originally suggested WoVCon ][ for my birthday, so it will ahve to be my belated celebration, too. The more the merrier, right?

May I introduce myslef? I'm your polar opposite ;)
I don't always take note of my birthday, really, but when I celebrate it can be any reasonable time frame, which for me means anywhen within two months.
Ok, it helps that 1) my younger brother's bday is a few days before mine, so we got used to celebrating them together, usually on a neutral date and 2) I got it hammered into my brain in history class that dates matter only in relation to other dates and not on their own <sigh>
I do go on at lenght, don't I? Well, I'll set up a poll on the date, either May 12th or 19th, and hope for the best for you. In any case, should we coincide at Vegas, I'm available for meetings with anyone from this board, for any reasonable activity (lunch, drinks, gambling, coffee, shopping, etc).
I'm pretty anal about celebrating my birthday on my birthday. That was the day I was born! Why wouldn't I want to celebrate it on that day? I don't celebrate the Fourth of July on July 7th. Right?Quote: NareedMay I introduce myslef? I'm your polar opposite ;)

Plus I take it personal when friends "can't make it" to my birthday party. I guess I can work on that. My thinking is come celebrate the fact that I'm alive and you're happy that I am, lol. It's only one day and doesn't come back till next year.
I also find it funny when people celebrate their birthday MONTH. It's like, come on now. You get one day, and maybe that weekend, and that's it.
(Sorry to have hijacked your blog, it was unintentional.) :-O

It takes all kinds.
But to be fair, some holidays are celebrated the preceding or following Monday... <pardon me while I duck out of the way> :)

I'd say it's ok on your 50th and 100th birthdays.

But not, apaprently, quote tags...
Threads need help. So:
I was simply going to suggest the Chicago Brewing Co. at the 4 Queens because 1) I'll likely be staying there and 2) Paco claims they serve ghost pepper wings (I didn't see them on the menu). The last item would serve as an excellent challenge without doing something crazy like running or trying to solve a crossword puzzle in five minutes. The ghost pepper is supposed to be the hottest one in the known universe; fun!
But before I do so formally, does anyone know the palce and whether it's any good? I tend to view all these "pubs" as more or less the same, with similar menus and varying only in the micro-brews they offer (and I can't help but think of beer served in tiny, tiny glasses when I see that term).
So that's a gross overview of the plan, such as it is.

The deep-dish pizza is excellent - not only have I spent money for it, rare enough for a casino restaurant, but I've even made a special trip downtown for it - and friends who like beer say that the beer is also good.

That is a nice safe choice. I have eaten at another location by my house several times.
I love deep dish pizza and I love beer. Plus I'm from Chicago so there's an extra plus there.Quote: fivespotQuote: NareedI was simply going to suggest the Chicago Brewing Co. at the 4 Queens [...] does anyone know the palce and whether it's any good?
