So, to begin with, since I do want to attend next year, I ask for votes on the more convenient dates. The best times for me to travel are April and May, therefore mostly suggestions in those months.
I should also add that since WoVCon I ran long, I will suggest right now a schdule comprising lunch through dinner. So when you consider the dates, keep in mind it include a nearly full day if you so choose.
Stay tuned next week for a survey on the locations.
And naturally I'll be bumping up the polls for some time. I will try some jokes in Spanish, too :P
Quote: buzzpaffMay 16th is my 72nd birthday. Providing Jerry Logan does not kill me before then.
Well, then, happy belated 71st birthday!
April 24th is my birthday, that's why I suggested that date. But I can just barely make it for mid-May. I'd just have to "suffer" the prior week on my own.
Quote: odiousgambitI won't vote yet, pretty sure I can't attend. Things might change and if they do I'll have to hope the date works.
I hope they change. Lots of time between now and then (of course I thought that last year, too...)
Quote:I would be sure to coordinate this with the Wizard if you havent.
Whoops! I knew I'd forgotten something (I am serious). Should the need arise I'll repost the question.
Quote: WizardAll of March, April, and May are wide open for me.
Good! You just saved me a PM :)
Quote: DJTeddyBearPrior to next year, there will be some variety of WoV meet-up (if not "Con" per se) around the time of G2E, first week in October...
Thanks for bringing that up. I recall that being broached a while back. Let me make a separate thread for that.
Quote: MathExtremistKudos to Nareed for using the old Apple notation for Roman numeral 2. Ahh, tech nostalgia...
Habit. I do it from time to time. It seemed appropriate for the year MMX][ :P

And in a strange technology irony (or perhaps just coincidence), MMX was a processor technology introduced by Intel in the mid-90s.

I didn't know that.
Did Apple use Intel chips back then? I stopped using an Apple when my old ][e got itself replaced.

R: Pinche Lunes.
This is rather simple word play, and a very, very, very old joke.
Don't forget to vote.
Of course maybe more people are avoiding coming to Vegas on the weekends due to the crowds and all.
Is my personal travel style of "coming to Vegas for the weekend" not as widespread as I thought it may be?
Quote: blount2000I see that each of the listed dates are on a Tuesday. Is there any merit to having it on a weekend day? It may just be me, but each of my Vegas trips have usually encompassed primarily the weekend (i.e. arrive on Thursday and leave on Sunday).

Now that you mention it I should say I hadn't thought about it. on previous trips I'm usually in vegas from Mon-Fri or, last time, Sun-Sat. So that influenced the dates. Next, weekdays are less crowded and that's a consideration when going out in a large group both for meals and gambling. Also I assume the Wizard finds weekdays more conveninet, but we'd have to ask him.
April 24th is significant to me. I'd love to have WoVCon that day, but I can have it any other time too. But aside from that day, I'd be willing to entertain any day of the week.
Now, how about having a kind of WoVCon ][a and WoVCon][b? I'll be in town long enough, I hope, to do that. Of course the Wizard might not be able, or want to, make it to two meetings, but from my end it wouldn't be a problem.
But here's an idea. Let's all who care to pelase suggest a date, prefferably between Monday April 16th and Saturday May 19th. after all we're trying to pin down a likely date.
Quote: gofaster87Lets invite Jerry Logan so you people can duke it out.
But weren't you Jerry Logan :)
I think there should be a challenge again... run between Paris and the Palms, then play Video Poker until you win $1,000 or more, then eat a real burritto.

That's only 3-of-a-kind if you're playing big enough ($100 coins x 5 = $500, trips pays 15 = +$1000). To compensate, you should require the participants to eat as many burritos as can be bought with a single max-coin bet.

You try running in high heels :P
But if you provide the bankroll, I'm willing to win $1,000 at VP or at least to give it my best shot...
as to the rest, Paco mentioned wings made with the infamous ghost chile at, if memory serves, the Chicago Brew Pub. I don't know if it's the one at the 4 Queens or some other location, but I'd be willing to take that as a challenge. Either the ability to eat a reasonabel one-person order, or to see who can eat more.

Genius...
Nareed : I wouldn't dream of running in high heels. The same way I wouldn't try and enter a bicycle ride on my nephew's toy tricycle.

I am usually one of those cheap-ass Vegas guests who only stays from Mon-fri so that the room rates are as low as possible. BUT, I will stay over a weekend next spring so that I can get a chip from the damn Searchlight Nugget for my collection.
So, I propose Friday May 4th, 2012. Friday, April 27th would be my second choice.

There are annual races in high heels for charity here and there. It's not impossible, nor dangerous, but hardly an efficient way to run. And given how women's shoes are made, with rather thin leather or synthetic soles, it's very uncomfortable.

It's always nice to meet kindred spirits.

How about Thursday May 3rd or Wednesday May 2nd? In my expereince traffic is at its worst on Friday all over the world. Or will you be in Searchlight then?

I can do the weekday evenings. The casino in searchlight only spreads their table games (game, really) on friday and saturday nights. But I thought if we did the dinner on friday or saturday, then the vegas visitors who prefer to be in town on the weekend could also join in.
Really, if we're going to be in town anyway, it might be the best of both worlds for us - the weekend preferers can join in, and we're spared from some on-peak expensive table limits during the dinner:-)

No problem on my end. I was thinking about traffic, and concerned for those fellow frugal travelers who leave on Friday. Other than WoVCon I expect to have no set commitments, dates, or other scheduling issues.

That's a good idea.
Quote: SOOPOOAfter a little while longer you have to grab the bull by the horns, Nareed. Since the Wiz said he is basically open that entire time of year, pick a date, and run with it. I think a weekend allows more to be able to make it as that allows it to fit around 2 separate work weeks. But since you started this train you have to stop it... pick a date....
I appreciate the support.
What I'm trying to do is find out what date's most convenient to as large number of likely attendees as possible. I woulnd't mind having the Wizard all to myself <w>, but two people hardly a WoVCon make ;)
Quote: SOOPOOI think a weekend allows more to be able to make it as that allows it to fit around 2 separate work weeks.
The more I think about it, the more I think that this is a strong argument for a saturday event. Friday is too early for the second weekers, and sunday is too late for the first weekers. And, time spent dining with y'all is time not spent looking for an open seat at a low limit game on a saturday night:)

Not a bad idea, either. Let me check with the Wizard about it, and I think I'll post a new thread with a more detailed look at what I've thought up for next year.
Quote: gofaster87They finally proved I wasn't Jerry Logan when we had our meet. Everyone was disappointed. I think everyone should have to eat a 5 pound burrito while running from Circus Circus to MGM at 6 AM.
Yep yep... like there was any question...
Do it like the beer mile... any "spillage" and you have to do an extra lap.
