The Rancocas Valley Journal of Applied Mathematics, a web site devoted to mathematical
topics, has been taken off the Internet and links to it on this web site are no longer
valid. It started eleven years ago as an on-line extension of a computer club newsletter and
grew to be a major reference for such classic problems as The Monty Hall Problem, The
Sultan's Dowry Problem, and Eddington's Liars Problem. Collaborators included Dr. David
Rusin of the University of Northern Illinois and Dr. Peter Oloffson, author of
"Probabilities, the little numbers that rule our lives." Some of the most popular treatments
were "The Jersey Devil Puzzle Pages" and "Marilyn Is Right."

In 2007 server overload forced a change of server and about half of the material was left
behind, including a general overview of the theory of probability and chapters on
cryptography and "Disarrangements, a Combinatoric Satire." There was a considerable amount
of material on gaming mathematics, including details of the computation of blackjack
strategies and strategies to take best advantage of casino slot machine promotional offers.

Anyone wishing to browse the site during its golden days may visit the Internet Archive at

That site also included several personal attacks against this site's proprietor and some of the most idiotic treatments of the math of roulette that I've ever seen. It's probably a very good thing that it's gone...

rdw4potus: I think you are exhibiting a psychological phenomenon known as "projection." You are the one who makes personal attacks, and some of them are quite vicious. This post is about the site as of 2007. Why don't you visit it and give your opinion? Also, are you a math expert? I have read your blog and searched your postings and have not found any solutions to math problems. In my opinion you are a gambler, not a mathematician.

The math of roulette is very simple and it would be hard to give an idiotic treatment of that. The site treats the math of blackjack, which is quite complex. What do you think of it? Can you understand it? I have been following that site for some time. The newsgroup buzz is that it caused Procter and Gamble to change the recipe for Ivory Soap and the thrust of its advertising. It also caused Soft Warehouse to make changes to the Derive computer algebra system. Fortunately it is not completely gone.

Here's our discussion of the roulette-based postings on the Rancocas site. Unfortunately, the original material is gone. It's from after the archived info was grabbed from the Rancocas site. https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/off-topic/free-speech-zone/7173-someone-has-gone-round-the-bend/

I've been studying these comments. Is this robo-generated chit-chat? The computers that generate that are getting better and better. It sort of sounds real until we got to Proctor and Gamble.
