Some locals are very upset. I saw the name change released and when I left my office some guy in the hall was on his cell saying, "Acrisure Stadium, what is that?" On the radio the local sports channel was complaining about it. This was all same afternoon. Facebook has had locals complaining.
One of the first naming rights in the big 4 sports was I think in Philly in the early 1990s. As is the case with these things everyone followed with differing results. Enron Field was of course a disaster. Heinz Field was accepted because it was a local company at the time.
My position is naming rights is selling your soul. When you decide to sell it you cannot get upset who buys it. But what say you all?
We'll, his question is the point of naming rights. Over the next 15 years he and others will find out who the heck Acrisure is.Quote: AZDuffmanHeinz Field has been renamed Acrisure Stadium.

The name ‘SOOPOO’ is not for sale!
I can’t imagine NOT selling the naming rights to a stadium. It’s literally free millions of dollars every year to do absolutely nothing. How many here would turn down $1,000,000 to change their legal name to ‘Twitter Tesla’ if there was a bonafide offer?

I would turn down that offer.

I posted that before really giving it much thought. At my age and stage in life I would DEFINITELY take that offer. I have a good friend named Will. His legal name is Charles. If I now just had to just change all my legal forms to ‘Twitter Tesla’ my friends would still call me Scott. I could use $1,000,000.

Understood and makes sense. There’s a number at which I would take the deal but it’s well north of $1,000,000.

My current price is US$37.5 million. More if I'm not keen on the new name.
While ‘Who/what is Acrisure?’ is a valid question, I would bet that the locals are more upset because they don’t know how to pronounce it. 😵💫Quote: AZDuffmanHeinz Field has been renamed Acrisure Stadium. 20 years just flew by!

You have it a little backwards. You would have to give it up for the new name. Maybe call yourself "Charlie the Butcher" for all the beef on weck you can eat?
The real issue is we used to name stadiums after deserving things or people. RFK, Soldier Field. My favorite of course remains "Mile High Stadium" then "Candlestick Park." Both just sounded good. "Three Rivers Stadium" was a generic name for a generic place. though.
Maybe not call it an "issue" because it is hard to care much when you only root for a moneyline or point spread like I do.

That was funny.
Here's another naming rights story: when the NCAA Final Four - excuse me: now it has to be called the NCAA Men's Final Four - was at Meadowlands Arena in 1996, its official name was Continental Airlines Arena, but the PA announcer was instructed to always refer to it as "Brendan Byrne Arena." Reason: CBS's coverage was sponsored by United.
Interesting. And ironic since years later Continental was merged into United.Quote: ThatDonGuyHere's another naming rights story: when the NCAA Final Four - excuse me: now it has to be called the NCAA Men's Final Four - was at Meadowlands Arena in 1996, its official name was Continental Airlines Arena, but the PA announcer was instructed to always refer to it as "Brendan Byrne Arena." Side note: I’m currently 7 miles from there but had to look it up. It’s now called the Izod Center.
Quote: DocThe first college I went to was Davidson College, located in central North Carolina.
Is is safe to assume that you were not there at the same time as Steph Curry?
On the other hand, in 2007, after I was retired from my career, my wife and I moved to the little town of Cornelius, NC, with its town limits bordering Davidson, and we got to watch Steph in his last two years of collegiate play. Thus, from a different perspective, we were on campus at the same time! We are looking forward to the upcoming celebration of his jersey/number retirement.
