The site will only work properly if you're gold and that's my problem. Used to play from a laptop years ago, and had no problem I remember. Might have even used an ad blocker and not had a problem playing games and contests. More recently, returned to the site, but this time used a phone and noticed the games and contests ran terribly. Frequently either the games froze up or the phone crashed. Often I would notice this was with good starting hands or good outcomes on the draw.
Switched to gold, the ads disappeared, and guess what, the problems and game speed works great. I'm sure there were probably a few instances there were problems, but I estimate them to be 2-5% as frequent. If I'm to play 15,000 hands in a monthly contest, we really can't say a purchase isn't necessary if I'm able to complete 14,800 hands and a gold member gets 15,000. Got rid of the gold btw, because the training guide was not satisfactory or usable on all games, couldn't adjust pay tables, so $8.95/month was not well spent. I really was paying for gold and getting silver for all meaningful purposes, being silver only removes ads for $2.95/month.
So got lucky in the seven stars tournament, but not lucky enough. Played wheel poker with quick quads, dealt AAA2 and was lucky enough to get a fourth ace twice on five handed. Unfortunately was denied 1 of 77 hands where I was dealt a pair of jacks. I know the odds of quads are 1/360 single handed from a pair, but never got the five handed chance. I'm pissed losing top 7 rank by 85 points when the contest is rigged. One hand I probably would have played if the site worked right. It's different if ads were just an annoyance, but they're ruining any chance of fair play, so badly I don't think is coincidental.
Sometimes specific ads are blamed, but believe me, all the ads screw the games up. Purchase is necessary to win these contests at least in my case and mathematically needed. It's been a bad experience and a total waste of time. If you don't believe me, and you're thinking of going gold, don't use the players club trial first, because I used 100,000 points for two days first, and was not able to use a 14 day free trial code from an American Casino Guide( Steve Bourrie) YouTube video, because I did. The company is too big to be getting away with such problems and should voluntarily remove ads from contests if they have had so many complaints, but they don't because they make money creating a problem and offering a solution for sale
I'm probably going to offend some people, but I'm sorry this is bs.

Doesn't help. The games don't play right on my phone either so I don't even bother.
Yes it is necessary. Dealt aces with kicker, over 200,000 to 1, then you might not get money because other hands matter because people will match with the level of competition. I was unlucky the one day dealt 2s w kicker, because it was deal draw poker day, and there were many royals on that game 10 handed. Just cost me a gold star not being in the top ten, but I really wanted it.Quote: GWAEI was playing daily for a long time but gave up since I don't like how really the only way to win is with dealt big hands and sometimes multiple dealt ones.
Sometimes the majority of winners and sometimes all, because some of the games are highly affected by the bugs. Ultimate X fails bad, then you lose the multipliers and many shots. Other games are quirky buggy, but also really, really slowly dealt, about 5-10x slower.
In 500 hands today in the monthly contest, 7/500 failed for me, which is typical. I was in the hunt in the top 100 for a while, but less than great luck and all these forfeited hands killed me. I might waste $9 next month on gold, then a month off, keeping track of these game failures to report a documented history.
Terrible, almost nothing. I'm sure you could make more going on a walk picking up change on the sidewalk for the time spent.Quote: WizardofnothingWhat is the ev in these contests? I haven't played them in years
And yes, you can change the pay tables on the non-contest games. It's a link at the bottom. But you can only change it to common ones. For example, you can change DDB from 9/6 to 9/5 to 8/5 to 7/5 to match it to what most casinos set it to.
Overall, I really enjoy playing VP without the ads, so I pay the membership as it keeps me out of a casino. Non-golds place in contests, so I am sure that the VP.com isn't trying to rip you off. 9/30 are in the "money" for the contests at this moment, and 3 of the top 7 in the 7 Star are non-golds.
The ads of course come from a third party provider and rely on the links to that site to load ads so of course the page loads will be noticeably slower and will dominate the download content and make your experience alot slower.
I profoundly disagree. The site is unreliable with ads, so it is not just a nuisance, it is a disability. You're probably ripped off being gold more than a non, because you're really not getting any real value for your money. It's their fault the site doesn't work well enough with ads, so why is it really fair for you to pay for it? They are the ones designing it as a POS for their own benefit.Quote: boymimbo

The pay tables were never able to be changed for me, the capability never was an option. Personally I think the site has a conflict of interest. They advertise the site to help people learn to play video poker, but really don't do a good job. They make more money having people make mistakes in casinos, than they would having the right tools available on the website. What else stops them from offering training guides on all the games? They are not clear about this in any way, shape, and form in their advertising.
They're too smart to be so stupid. I'm not going to pretend these things are happy accidents.
I have no problem as Gold using training mode on about 1/2 of their games, including all of the most common ones. And yes, you can change the pay tables, under Game Play settings at the bottom of the game page.
I won't be renewing.
Complaining to the site gets me nowhere. They use an excuse certain ads are the problem, or your operating system, or having multiple tabs open, or use an iPad. I was bold and asked for a free upgrade to silver( which removes ads), and was not given it. I will keep asking and keep complaining until the ads are removed from contests or the games run fairly with ads. The site running the contests this way is clearly illegal and I wonder how long they'll keep up this arrogant defiance of the law. I've had no choice but to complain to the FTC about the whole mess, but don't know what will come of it.
