Many of you might remember me applying for an examiner job at the USPTO as well as moving to the DC area. Thanks to everyone that gave me some insight.
Just wanted to say that this website is filtered by federal computers. I can go to it, but I'd need to click something saying it's for official business and since I'm in mechanical engineering it's not a button I want to push. Le sigh.
I'm not really useful for it right now, but in the future I guess I'm banned from helping anyone out in any realm. I can't even lobby on behalf of a family member in front of a federal agency without a waver. So sorry, no questions now or in the future.

I'm sorry to hear that. I've really enjoyed your posts and hope you can still post on less legal matters in the future.
Enjoy your job at the USPTO. Hopefully that will speed up their processing time on patent applications, which I know takes years. When in the Dupont Circle area, be sure to eat at the Brickskellar.

I'm a little confused about the Brick these days. It closed and re-opened? Found one article.

It is because it is gambling related, to use a stronger word than "gaming."
Not that it is "like" porn, but yes, gambling in the eyes of our officials, especially during work time on organizational computers, is very much like porn, or clearly non-work related.
I cannot imagine a computer system at Shufflemaster, DEQ, or Galaxy Gaming filtering out any gaming sites, - but for other business entities....

I work in a Federal office, and WoV gets through the filter (we use WebSense). Wizard of Odds, on the other hand, is considered a gambling site, and there isn't even an option for "you can view it for work-related purposes" for those. (The same applies to "gaming" sites, even if you can't actually play any games there - e.g. PCGamer.)

Ironically, you cannot access WoV or WoO from the computers at the hotel at MotorCity casino in Detroit.Quote: IbeatyouracesYou also cant access WoV/O from most public library computers either.
I once got into a big argument with a librarian in small-town Indiana about her restricting access to the Wizard's sites. It's a first amendment thing. The government can't make content-based decisions on what you can view.

A lot of IT administrators have a "block them all, let g-d sort them out" policy. WoO/WoV probably got one of the long lists they downloaded.
The "official business" button is probably there in case they do mistakenly block something important, so that the IT guys don't get yelled at (and have a basis to yell at you if you do get a trojan). But probably not worth checking.
Just use a web proxy, if it's not blocked, hey - it wasn't blocked.
