Before I start, I gotta ask... Wasn't it discussed here about a year or so ago that Wynn / Encore was scaling back their promos and comps?

I got an offer in today's mail. A letter in an envelope, not a postcard. I *think* it's the first time I got anything from them.

I can get a room midweek for $139 and weekend for $219. Plus, I'll get a $50 resort credit, and 3X on my red card. What's more, I can get up to 4 rooms at that rate so I can invite family & friends.

One weird thing is, in the P.S. section, it says I can get rooms for family and friends for $149 midweek and $229 weekend. Wait - they get a free buffet!

I also love the spin they put on resort fees: "A daily resort fee that entitles you to certain hotel amenities will be added for each night." At least they are up-front about it.

By the way, here's the shocker:

The day I got my Red Card, in October 2010, I gave them a total of $10 in action. That was just to get the $10 in free spins. And after the $10, when I learned that Video Poker doesn't qualify for the free spins, i walked out, never to return.

We got these a few times when I joined Red, and I wasn't staying at the hotel -- just got the free card with the spins, and maybe played there for 1/2 an hour.

It's reasonable for them to expect 3 nights when they give you a resort credit. This is just to avoid you booking three separate one night stays and getting three resort credits.

How does that compare to the regular rates? I assume you did notice the resort fee non-info at the bottom.

BTW in may 2010 I signed up for a card, played the $10 of free play for new members in a VP machine and won a little, then bles $35, including tip, on a carnival game. I feel slighted I gave them 3 times as much action and they dind't send me anything :P

The rates ARE considerably lower than the rates they quote on their website.

However, even at $139 per night, it doesn't come close to the $197 total I'm paying for 5 nights from 4/30 to 5/4 elsewhere.

Since this letter is dated 3/21 and I got it yesterday, and I do NOT blame the post office, I gotta wonder how many rooms at that rate there really were, and if there are any rooms left.

Yes, I noticed, and commented upon, the reference to the resort fee.

One thing I did not comment on was the flowery way they say I could check out the new high limit slots while I'm there. HELLO! The last time I was there, I dropped a total of TEN BUCKS! It was in a quarter poker machine!

Ok. i wondered, though. It wouldn't be the first time a hotel is trying to pass of regualr rates as amazing offers.

I got a note from the bank Friday telling me something about a payment reduction for MARCH. The note is dated "APRIL 2012." The payment deadline is April 5th. The math is very clear :) But apparently they'll reduce the payment for April if I've already paid March.

Here's a thought: don't take up their offer (unless you want to), but play $10 in a high limit machine. Maybe I'll do just that, too.

Would anyone take them up on this offer? Does anyone really think $139 is a good deal for a hotel in Vegas? ($417+$75 resort fee=$492+$59.04 tax = $551.04 total outlay?) Ooh, you get a $50 resort credit which will get you a burger, fries and milkshake at the coffee shop. (Seriously, Wynn has THE highest food prices I've seen anywhere).

I won't stay anywhere in LV that requires me to pay for a room; preferably they should pay me. I don't feel entitled, that's just the way the market is.

DJT:

I got the same letter.

An no, I don't intend to take them up on
it.

Now, a couple of years ago, when the
rate in the letter was lower, and there
was $ 150 of free-play, we did stay
there. I cashed out most of that
after playing it through the best of
their bad machines.

Because the VP paytables were not
very good, we played there very little
on our own money.

And I admit, I was a little pissed that
my wife ordered a diet coke while
playing VP at a bar, and I had to pay
5 bucks for it.

The very first time I was there, I
did play some $1 x 5 VP. So that's
probably how I got the original
letter.

The fact they sent me another letter
does show that either they don't have
player history tied to the offers very
well, OR they are looking hard for
people to fill the rooms.

But like I said, we'll pass.

And what does a 'refreshed room' mean? Somebody
farted in there and they aired it out? They changed
the sheets? What..

Interesting. My wife and I have stayed at the Wynn for our annual Las Vegas trip for the last four years now. They weren't giving me any room offers for this year's trip and I posted about it in this thread:

Getting a discounted room?

I got a similar offer to yours through e-mail at the end of March after getting back from this year's trip, but without the 3x points. However my offer extends the $139/$219 rates to the middle of September.

It's basically the same room, but they updated the colour scheme to be a darker brown and cream theme. A little of that 1970's flavour that other hotels like the Cosmopolitan have. The couch, chairs, and ottoman are now that creme colour and the rug is the dark brown. Everything else is the same from what I remember.

I didn't reply at the time, but I got a similar letter from Steve at the same time as DJ, and a couple weeks ago I got a new one for the summer - similar, except now there's no $50 credit, and instead you can get one room at the discounted rates and one room complimentary (only on select dates, of course).

Similar to DJ, I've given them very little action. More than $10 in slots, but only about an hour of $25 craps back in March. I'd guess they're just trying to build their customer base; these offers are not that great.
