Honest, I am not really trying to complicate your life. I'm thinking more about future complications in mine if I can't make categories that will hold up under future chip posts. Of course, that CasinoCity.com Oceania category includes Réunion, which is so far west that it is almost in Africa!

Reunion is right next to Mauritius which is just east of Madagascar, which is just east of South Africa :)

I could be wrong, especially since I haven't been there, but the top design looks like the outline of the Sydney Opera House, and the bottom 2 look like the Sydney Harbor Bridge and/or the Port Jackson Bridge. All distinctive features of Sydney.

Yep, babs is spot on. It is the Sydney Harbor Bridge and the Opera house depicted on the $2-50 chip. Also I believe the chip is made by ICON, as is most chips in either Australia, NZ and South Africa. The $0.25 cents chip is cheap plastic and the stars are a special mould pattern. (The stars oobviously due to the name being "Star City")
Country: Auckland, New Zealand
Casino: Sky City
Taking a quick hop across the Tasman Sea we are again back in New Zealand, this time we are headed up to the North Island to Auckland. Many people will think that Auckland is the capital of NZ however, that isn't the case, it is Wellington which is situated right slap bang at the bottom of the North Island.
Back to Auckland. I visited Auckland in 2006 and again in 2008. In fact, Auckland was the very last city that I ever visited on a cruise ship while working. I signed off in Auckland on the 28th December 2008, hightailed it over to South Africa to get married! The casino is called Sky City and is located right in the CBD of Auckland. The casino itself is a rather unispiring box but the whole layout includes an awesome spired tower from whence you can bungi jump or do a "sky walk" (which I did). There are many such spots in the US, similar to the Seattle tower.
Below are two pics from the internet. The first showing the "boxiness" of the casino building and the 2nd some tower pics.
Oh btw, there is a great strip club real close to the casino......don't ask me how I know :)
My chip I collected is unfortunately a cheapy as well. A $1.00 chip, plastic, with what apears to be Bud Jones markings on the rims. I'm not 100% sold however because I cannot find a causal link between Sky City and having so many Bud Jones logos on the chips. If anyone has an idea, please post.
I collected the chip while playing in a Sunday morning poker tournament. It was a $60 buy in ($55 + $5). I managed to bubble and proceeded to knock a tray of drinks over as I stormed out in disgust......not my finest moment :). My buddy won the whole damn thing!
Here is the chip pic

The top hat and cane is a logo of Paulson (originally Paul-Son, I think), which is now a division of Gaming Partners International. There are several patterns that appear on chips, and this one is known as the Short Cane Version, usually abbreviated as SCV. Sometimes a chip is offered with the Short Cane Version on one side and the Long Cane Version on the other. You can see a discussion of the different patterns on this page, about 2/3 of the way down.

Thanks. I thought the top hat and cane was BJ. Live and learn on these boards!
Country: Macau
Casino: City of Dreams
Next we are headed over to Macau to the City of Dreams. The casino is actually on the Cotai Strip, which is about 2 miles south of Macau on a strip of reclaimed land. The COD is owned and operated by Crown Melco and consists of 4 separate towers including the Hard Rock Tower. The casino has 550 table games and 1500 slot machines. It is also home to a show called "House of the Dancing Water". if you have ever seen Le Reve in Vegas before then you have basically seen this show too! Still, I enjoyed the show for what it was. There was another theater production at Venetian but that has been removed and not been replaced as far as I know. i was at COD in May 2013 during G2E Asia. Below is an artistic rendering the buildings as well as another pic of the casino floor.
I collected two chips from here, one $25HKD and one $5HKd chip. Both have holographic inlays, both very well made chips, I believe from ICON. All higher denomination chips in the newer Macanese properties all have RFID technology because cases of dealer theft is rife in the enclave. I collected the chips after playing poker the first night I was there. I won $1400HKD, which is about $180. Below are the chips.
I will be posting my last chip on Tuesday this coming week. Thanks to Doc for allowing me to share my few unique chips I have.
Country: Macau
Casino: MGM Macau
We stay within the ex Portugese enclave for our next chip from MGM Macau. I was there in May 2013 and didn't think much of the property to be very honest. I didn't like the gaming space and I wasn't enamoured with the outisde of the casino. To me it looks like 3 container boxes stacked on top of one another. It does however occupy a fantastic space in Macau, right on the corner of an inlet as well as facing the harbor full on.
Below is a pic of the front of the hotel which give you a nice idea of my "container theory". (Pic was sourced from the internet)
I again have two chip denominations, one $5 HKD and one $25 HKD. The $5 variant again looks cheap with the stock imprints on the chip being 4 leaf clovers. THe $25 chip is a blue chip with red inserts. The chip is much more sturdy and also has a holographic inlay for added protection. I honestly cannot recall exactly what I played to collect these chips. All I know is that the table gambling here wasn't fun for me in any way, shape or form. I did find a $5 HKD slot machine that kept me busy for quite a while. I did enjoy that!
Tomorrow and Tuesday we return to South Africa for two more chips then my collection will be done for now.
The $25 HKD chip has a lot of the characteristics of the chips shown in the Matsui catalog and on their web site, but I cannot pick out one that looks just like this.
Quote: AyecarumbaIt is interesting to me that the chips are all in English, and not Chinese (nor Portuguese). Are all the signs in Macau casinos in English as well?
In Laredo, TX, all signs are in English. But if you can find one person speaking in English in the big mall, you've seen and heard something really unusual.

Most of the signs are firstly in English and secondly in Mandarin/Cantonese
Country: Brakpan, Gauteng, South Africa
Casino: Carnival City
Back to South Africa for my final two chips of this set. The casino in question is called Carnival City. It was one of the 4 original licenses issued for the Johannesburg region. (The others being Monte Casino, Caesars (now called Emperors) and Gold Reef Casino). It isn't hard to figure out what the theme is here. The casino is located inside a big circus tent with smaller tents surrounding it making up the amennities such as restaurants, hotels, movie theaters and the like. It is pretty festive inside with loads of colors and clown faces! Two unique thigns about this casino. It was the first in SA to use a card system that allows you to keep cash on your players card, use it at table games and slot machines or cash it out at an NRT or the cage. Secondly it has been robbed 3 times since opening.
Here is a pic of the place from the internet.
The chip is a R12-50 chip which is equal to about $1.15 at today's exchange rates. The chip itself is from ICON I believe, blue with brown inserts. The inlay has the property name as well as a big old clown face on. I think I collected the chip sometime in 2004 on one of my vacations there. I played Roulette.
One more interesting fact about casino chips in SA is that each of the denominations are a different size. I like this as a game protection help as you cannot hide higher value chips because they are bigger than the lower denom ones.
Here is my pic.
Country: Nelspruit, South Africa
Casino: Southern Sun Emnotweni
For my last chip I take you on a journey to the Eastern part of South Africa, referred to as Mpumalanga. This is the profince that is home to the Kruger National Park. The casino, when I was there was temorarily located inside a mall. The mall is still there but so is the permanent casino, now called "Southern Sun Emnotweni". Below is a pic sourced from the internet.
I got the chip while one our honeymoon. Because it was a destination wedding, the whole family traveled to the Kruger National Park for some safari action. We spent a day at the mall when it was raining and I discovered the casino. I played roulette for about 10 minutes and got the chip. It is a yellow chip with inserts on the rim and not the sides. The pattern on the center inlay is also quite strange. It could have something to do with the sun (Southern Sun is the hotel group who owns part of the holding company called "Tsogo Sun"). The inlay also appears to be off center. This is weird as I have two chips and they both look this way. For whatever reason it appears to be done on purpose.
I want to thank Doc for giving me the opportunity to share my chips and for being a part of this great thread!
Thanks
The MOGH catalog lists this casino as the Tsogo Sun Casino, although they provide a link to the casino's web site where it really is listed as the Southern Sun.
Have you checked what the other side of your chip looks like? All of the chips that MOGH shows from this casino are different on the two sides. One side of each of their chips has the pattern shown on your chip, but the other side of each chip has an image of a variety of butterfly -- different butterflies on different denominations of chips.
If your chip has a butterfly image on the other side, and if you can get a photo of that side, it would be very nice if you could add that photo in an edit of your post. If you do that, particularly if there is a delay before you can do it, please make a current post in the thread letting us know to look back here to see the new image.
I'm looking for Tom to return to the lead role in the thread some day to post some other chips in his collection, once he gets the chance to review them all and see which ones we haven't already covered.
For now, though, we have another member who has agreed to take the lead and post his collection starting today. I understand that he has five chips to share with us, so some time while we are seeing those chips and reading about those casinos, I will be in touch with a couple of you other members who have offered to post a chip. I'm still looking for additional volunteers who have souvenir chips to share -- at the moment it appears that we will run out of chips for this thread even before the WoV 2014 Spring Fling. I would really like to see this thread continue.
Country: Macau / Macao SAR, China
Casino: Oceanus (海立方) / Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (澳門博彩股份有限公司)
Greetings everyone. For my first and second chip we will be returning back to Macau. The Oceanus is one of 17 casinos in Macau owned by SJM according to their website (sjmholdings.com). I believe they all use the same chips so there are no Casino Oceanus branded chips. This is sad for the chip collector but should save time for anyone thinking of visiting those 17 casinos just to collect. The casino's website states their 3 story property has over 260 tables and 560 slots, and is the only casino connected to the ferry terminal. It opened in 2009 on the former site of the Yaohan department store and has a covered walkway connecting it to the terminal. This is most convenient for those who can't wait to be separated from their money, or for those who have a limited amount of time to spend gambling and must stay close to the terminal. I believe it takes about the same time (or faster) to walk there from the terminal than to wait in line for a taxi.
I played a little bit of Baccarat to collect this chip in 2011. I did not take any notes but my impression was lots of tables and lower minimums than the major casinos, as well as being fairly smokey. This is the only jeton in my collection. The Chinese side of the chip has the full name of SJM on top and 10 dollars on the bottom. I don't know what the 0402L means, it could be a batch number or chip model number?
Anyway, Macau casinos doesn't interest me much due to the lack of craps, and the ones that have it (1 each at Venetian, Wynn, Sands Cotai, Galaxy, and maybe City of Dreams) has a $200 HKD minimum (about $26 USD) and I'm only comfortable playing $5 345x odds, if not just double odds most of the time.
For more detailed info and photo of the property see this review at http://wizardofmacau.com/casinos/oceanus.html
PS: I don't know how this should be listed in the index since the chip is from SJM, which is a holding company/corp. and not a casino. I got this from the Oceanus but there's no indication at all this chip is from there. Doc will have to figure this out!
Edit: photos re-uploaded.

Yeah, I seem to have trapped myself into a role of naming the continents/categories and perhaps even the casinos. How did I let that happen? The MOGH catalog just shows this chip under the category of S.J.M. Since you got it at the Oceanus, I think I'll just put it in the directory under that name and possibly make some adjustment if someone starts to post chips/jetons from other S.J.M casinos in Macau. Now if it turns out that YOU do that with your post tomorrow, I might get grumpy. ;-)
Of relevance to your post, the MOGH catalog shows some jetons with numbers similar to the 0402L that is on yours. One of their HK$10 jetons has the identical number (so it isn't a serial number); another HK$10 jeton is marked 0403L; a HK$25 jeton is marked 0402K, and the HK$50, HK$100, HK$500, HK$1000, and HK$5000 jetons appear to have other similar numbers and letters. The photos have poor resolution, so I can't be certain of some of these marks, but it seems likely that they indicate both the denomination and a series of jeton. The HK$50 and above jetons also appear to have serial numbers molded into them, something like the Casino da Madeira jeton that I posted.
Web sites can be interesting/confusing. The MOGH catalog page for S.J.M. has a link to a site for "The SJM Group of Companies" at www.sjmholding.com, while you have provided the link to www.sjmholdings.com for "SJM Holdings Limited". It is not clear at all whether these are the same company. That second site lists their casinos but doesn't tell about them or provide links. I searched and found a site for the casino (I think) at www.oceanus-macau.com. That page provides essentially no useful information about the casino. Not at all the way I am accustomed to businesses presenting and promoting themselves on the web.
Jogos is Portuguese. I don't know Portuguese, but it's most likely jogos = juegos = games/gaming.
Oops should have refreshed before clicking reply.

Casino: Venetian (澳門威尼斯人)
Today we have a chip from the Venetian in Macau. Again, as the Wizardofmacau site has a detailed review here (http://wizardofmacau.com/casinos/venetian.html) I don't think I need to duplicate any info on this thread. I got lost walking around the canal and the casino floor. The place was that big. It was impossible to count all the tables in sight while coming down the escalator before stepping off of it.
The chip here is $5 HKD, which I believe is the lowest denomination. Both sides are the same. It was a leftover (or I should say I pocketed it at the beginning) of a $2000 HKD buy-in (about $258 USD) with another $1000 HKD rebuy at the only craps table. The minimum was $200 HKD ($25.75). My $2995 HKD was gone in like 15-20 minutes. There were lots of onlookers taking up room but little action on the table. Also the action was really slow because many people were asking questions but the box was really patient in explaining what was going on almost after each roll.
I've visited other casinos in Macau but did not collect chips. I will be sure to do so on my next trip again to Macau.
The chip itself is identical on both sides.
Edit: photos re-uploaded.

According to a current Chinese thread started in Dec 2013 at http://www.discuss.com.hk/viewthread.php?tid=22775780&extra=page%3D1&page=73 ,the only table on the Macau peninsula is at the Sands Macau and there's another 4-5 tables in Cotai. And all are $200 minimum with the exception of 1 property which still has $100 on weekdays (I believe the City of Dreams in Cotai). Not cheap...
Biggest money maker in Macau is still the almighty bac.
Sorry to hear that the Venetian dice were misbehaving for you.
This chip appears to be a Matsui design.

I have just confirmed that there were two craps tables at the Lisboa, open at 14:00, each day, in 2013. It doesn't matter at the moment but like you, without craps available everywhere Macau not that appealing. The room rates are well over $100.usd a day and comps don't even seem like they exist. I still think of it as a mob type deal, mobsters in China put groups together, front the money, and away they go to the Baccarat tables.

That is almost exactly what they do, only difference is they are not called the "mob" they are called "junkets" :)
I think they should simply end craps in Macau. Concentrate on what the people want and enjoy to play. The problem is that there are only a finite amount of tables allowed in Macau each year. You cannot swap out one craps game for 2 or 3 baccarat games......
Tough place to gamble if you don't have a decent sized bankroll
City: Brunswick
Casino: Emerald Princess II (http://www.emeraldprincesscasino.com/)
Today we are returning stateside to the only casino in Georgia. There used to be another boat in Savannah but because it was opening its casino while still in GA waters it was shut down a few years back. This casino boat docks just south of Brunswick, GA. It has 1 craps with 2x odds, 2 CSP, 2 roulette, and 8 BJ in 1 pit all with $5 mins, and another pit by the cashier with 4 BJ with $25 mins. The second floor has 6 poker tables. The cruises are daily from 7PM-12AM, with an extra day cruise on Friday and Saturday from 11AM-4PM. The boarding cost is $10 and includes a light meal which resembles school cafeteria food, and a return to port snack of 1 item on rotation which could include egg roll, nachos, or biscuit and gravy. Alcohol is $4-6 unless you have a vip card, then it's free drinks and boarding. I don't think there are specific criteria to meet in order to get the card. Just have to become a familiar face and not be an ass.
The Victory casino boat in Port Canaveral, FL is much bigger and spacious, but due to its location, the EP II has its own clientele as well.
The ship takes about an hour to go from dock to 3 miles offshore. The cruise along the Brunswick River through the Saint Simons Sound and out to the Atlantic is very pretty. It also takes about an hour to return to dock. So actual gambling time is about 3 hours which is plenty enough of standing at the craps table. There's always an interesting mix of people on the weekend, like people being overdressed as if they were going to a classy club, and people overdrinking (or not) and throwing their guts out to the rhythm of the waves.
Anyway, anyone planning on visiting should bring a coat, even on a 90F day of Georgia summer heat, because the AC is really strong (in a futile attempt to clear the smoke).
Edit: photos re-uploaded.
This "wet chip" is, of course, Paulson's very familiar Reversed Hat and Cane design.
Edit 5/23/16: I finally got the chance to sail on the Emerald Princess II myself some two years after Konbu posted his chip above. I added my own comments here.

Thanks for the memories. There used to be a boat in Fernandina Beach, I think it's the one moved to Brunswick or Savannah. My understanding back then was that the ship had to reach 12 miles offshore, not 3. Perhaps it was open at 3miles and touch the 12 mile mark? The Gulf of Mexico laws were different. In addition, not to ramble, there were several junket operators in Savannah and Jacksonville which were "hurt" by these cruises to nowhere. Gamblers no longer needed to fly to AC or Mississippi for their fix.

Just for the record, are you saying they have automatic continous shufflers in BlackJack(and Baccarat), not allowing the player to "count" at these games? What about Caribbean Stud and/or Poker ?

Quote: AcesAndEightsWhoa, that's really similar to the "chips" I played with in Austria. I guess they were actually jetons :)
When I posted my souvenir from Casino da Madeira, I commented that, "The MOGH catalog shows it on a page of 'jetons' so perhaps that is the proper name. I think that is the French word and that it is 'jetton' in English, so I'll use that spelling."
Well, I haven't been consistent on that, perhaps appropriately, since I was wrong. I just looked at my unabridged Merriam-Webster's Third New International Dictionary, and they list "jetton" as just a variant of "jeton," with either spelling meaning a counter, as in a piece used in keeping accounts and in playing games of chance. Yes, the word is French and comes from the verb jeter, "to throw".
My jeton/jetton from Casino da Madeira is the only one in my collection.
Quote: rdw4potus (from 11 days ago)The only reason that I haven't committed to organizing the Friday event next month is that I might drive to Carson City now that someone peed in my koolaid:-)
Assuming that you do make that Carson City excursion as part of the WoV 2014 Spring Fling trip, I should remind you that you have acknowledged the need to get out to Yerington again, also. The MOGH catalog has posted chips from the new Pioneer Crossing casino that replaced the Casino West there. No point in missing that in April and having to make yet another tour of NW Nevada to collect a chip!
Either check with both places on their table games operating schedule or adopt my new technique for collecting chips when the tables are closed.
City: Brooks
Casino: Cache Creek (https://www.cachecreek.com)
Today we return to my home state. I wonder why Rdw4potus has not posted this yet, even though he's been to the casinos and card clubs in the Sacramento area. Anyway, according to their website it has 122 tables and over 2000 slots. When I visited during a weekday afternoon I played PGP. Their craps table was not open. They do have a few paigow tables, along with the usual assortment of games. The floor has high ceilings and the tables are lined up in long rows. The area feels airy and open. It's a pretty nice property.
The downside is driving that 12 mile stretch of CA-16 after getting off of I-505 can be treacherous, especially at night. That's why I think more people would rather stay on I-80 and drive an extra 15-20 min to get to Thunder Valley or Red Hawk. Also, with the Graton now open in Rohnert Park, Cache Creek must be losing quite a bit of business.
Edit: photos re-uploaded.
I haven't visited Cache Creek. It's north of the line that I drove from the San Fran area to the Sacramento area. This is the southernmost casino (edit: I also haven't been to Graton yet) that would/will be part of my future loop of northern California casinos.
Quote: rdw4potus... part of my future loop of northern California casinos.
Aaahh! The solution becomes more clear.
Obviously, you need to extend your 2014 Spring Fling trip. Stick around Las Vegas with the rest of us for Friday through Sunday, then head out on Monday for a spin through Yerington, Carson City, Brooks, and Rohnert Park (either flying out from there or driving back to Vegas), leaving just the "far northern" California casinos for that more-distant future loop.
It's time once again to demonstrate your obsession!
