Casino: OYO

Todayís chip of the day is from Oyo Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Oyo is the former Hooters casino which closed in September 16, 2019 to become Oyo. I picked this chip up in January and honestly the only thing they changed about the casino is the name. Heck even the Hooters restaurant is still there. The tables are in the same spot, slot layout is the same and the cage still is unmanned half the time.

The chip is a white LCV Paulson with two edge inserts, one olive and one brown. The centre inlay is black with a gold rim and the Oyo logo in gold with white steaks. The denomination and location are in the same gold/white writing.

Thanks for this post, PG, it's been too long between chips of the day! I listed this chip in the thread index as "OYO" instead of "Oyo" as you had it shown, since they seem to use all caps on their web site and everywhere else I have seen it listed.

Casino: The Strat

Today's chip of the day is from The Strat Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Stratosphere Casino changed it's name to The Strat in August, 2019. It seems to me that they did this along with the renovation to attract the younger "IT" crowd, I have no idea if it is working but both times I have been there since the name change it was busy. The problem to me is never going to be what they offer or how "cool" it is, the problem is they are in the shady part of the strip and nobody wants to go there because of the neighbourhood.

I usually only collect $1 chips when available but I loved the design of the $5 chip so I kept one as well. For some reason the $1 chips are a different design than all the chips $5 and above. The $1 chip is a blue Paulson SCV with two white edge inserts. The centre inlay is white with the casino name in blue with white lines through it. The casino name and chip denomination are both black. The $5 Paulson chip is red with 3 edge inserts in brown, pink and blue. Between the edge inserts and the centre inlay is a section of red plastic with gold crackling which makes for a beautiful chip. The centre inlay is the exact same as the $1 chip.

Iím taking pictures and uploading them, I didnít get a chance to clean the chips before taking the pictures. Iím flying to Amsterdam on August 8 for a long vacation through Europe. Iím currently at 984 chips collected so I will hit the 1000 chip mark sometime in August or September.

Again, I am indexing this latest CCotD as "STRAT" instead of "Strat" because they seem to be emphasizing that.

It has now been 16 months since I have collected a new chip and about that long since I have been more than 30 miles outside of my home state. I'm a bit jealous of your travel plans and history. Do you anticipate travel restrictions on your visit to Europe? I suppose Canadians may experience things differently from Americans these days on the world stage.

Restrictions in Europe for vaccinated Canadians are very minor. I can go to most countries now.

Casino: The Pass

Today's chip of the day is from The Pass Casino in Henderson, Nevada. Eldorado Casino closed on March 20, 2019 with no plans to reopen. A year later the owners of Railroad Pass bought Eldorado Casino with plans to rebrand it The Pass. The Pass Casino opened on April 1 of this year. I have no idea if the casino got a makeover (I assume it did) since I collected my chip from Eldorado in July, 2013. The casino is small but has a nice interior with a decent size table games pit, small sportsbook and 360 slot machines.

The chip is a white Icon with two baby blue edge inserts. The "centre inlay" is varying shades of yellow with a white star in the middle. The middle of the white star has the casino logo which is a black star with the casino name also in black. The denomination and location are in black under the logo. On the right side of the chip you can see a faint Icon logo.

Casino: Circa

Today's chip of the day is from Circa Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Circa was built on the site of the Las Vegas Club Casino and opened on 10/28/2020. Circa is huge and easily the nicest casino on Fremont street, in fact it sticks out like a sore thumb. The casino has 1350 slot machines and 55 table games. There are no low limit tables so I had to play $25 BJ to get my chip. The sportsbook is billed as the largest sportsbook in the world, I actually found the screens too big and bright as we watched the basketball game. Overall I would say that the casino is nicer than 80% of the casinos on the strip.

The chip is white Paulson RHC with 3 lime green edge inserts. The oversized inlay is the colour of and looks like a basketball hardwood floor. The casino name, location and chip denom are all listed in black. On the chip is Vegas Vickie who was originally apart of Glitter Gulch which was also torn down to build Circa. The neon Vegas Vickie sign is inside of the Circa Casino.
