I have driven by Casino de Montreal quite a few times. Its set in the middle of the man-made island that the Formula 1 race track is on.

This past weekend, my wife and I returned from a little trip to Tunica, Mississippi. I didn't collect any new chips on that trip, because I already had all of the ones from there. Since getting home, we have discussed our travel plans for the next five months or so. Of course, the next big trip will be next month when we fly to Las Vegas to stay a couple more nights at the Cosmopolitan (then move over to the Rio for the expensive weekend nights) and meet our WoV friends.

After that, we're thinking about a visit to Niagara Falls in early June. We really like the place (in warm weather) and haven't been there since 2008. Along the way, I anticipate picking up a couple more souvenir chips in Ontario, a couple in western Pennsylvania, and maybe one from Cleveland. Those seem to be reasonable side excursions for a driving trip from the Charlotte area.

Then in July, we have that very roundabout drive to the Kentucky Music Weekend in Louisville, which I have mentioned before. That trip should involve chip gathering in Biloxi, Bossier City, Cape Girardeau, St. Louis, Evansville, Rising Sun, Cincinnati, and possibly Columbus. One heck of a loop.

Finally of relevance to this point in the thread, we have tentative plans for another driving trip in late August during which I hope to get a chip from Casino de Montréal. The real purpose of that trip will be to visit relatives in New Jersey and Massachusetts, but we have in mind to extend the drive to the new casino in Rhode Island and the two in Maine. Then we will hop over into Canada to visit Montreal, Mont Tremblant, and Ottawa. I haven't convinced myself just yet that it's worth the drive all the way up to La Malbai for the Casino de Charlevoix, since it seems the other Quebec casinos to the east don't have real table games with chips.

On the drive home from Ottawa, I think we will do multiple border crossings to hit the casinos in Hogansburg then Gananoque then Verona. I think (not sure) that makes more sense than going to Gananoque first then back up to Hogansburg and down to Verona -- a lot more driving but only one border crossing instead of three that day.

Yes, chip collecting can become an obsession. Just ask rdw4potus.

Edit 9/24/15: I finally got my own Casino de Montréal chip and posted it here.

Is it a Canadian thing to put the "$" after the denomination?

Might be a French Canadian thing, it certainly isn't a Canadian thing only.

The chip is horrible too.....I have 4 of them :)

LOL! Indeed. The only reason that I haven't committed to organizing the Friday event next month is that I might drive to Carson City now that someone peed in my koolaid:-)

For my own part, here are upcoming trip plans:

April - Vegas (and Carson City)
June - OKC/Tulsa
August - Northern Cali/Oregon

And, my two cents re: border crossings...you absolutely want to take that drive on the canadian side on route 401 and not on the crappy roads on the US side. So, cross at Cornwall & visit Hogansbug, recross, drive to Gananoque, double back slightly, and cross into the US at the header of I-81 (ON-137).

Do you have any definite or tentative schedule? You may be able to swing both.

I arrive in Vegas at 11pm on Thursday. what I'd really like to do is go to Carson City on Sunday evening and drive back on Monday. But I need to check the table games hours at the casino I need/want to visit to make sure they're open then. If the tables are fri/sat only, then I may go Friday. I need to determine the table games hours, then figure out if I'd drive or fly from Vegas to Reno. It's possible that I can swing both, but I'd hate to organize the Friday meet and then not attend it.

Who knows. it might make for a good premise for a mystery story ;)
