Most of the other casinos are north of Seattle with a number card rooms in the Seattle area.

Rivers, Des Planes, IL
OK, so I am not from that area of the country. What is the proper pronunciation of that city name? <snip>
Doc,
The city is spelled "Des Plaines" and pronounced "dess planes". My sister lives a couple of miles from Rivers Casino.
By the way, I too enjoy reading these Chip of the Day posts.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the response. When I initially got no reply to that question, I did a web search and found a site that discussed this issue. My assumption had been that the name came from the French, and I wondered then whether the French pronunciation had been retained.Quote: DogHandThe city is spelled "Des Plaines" and pronounced "dess planes".
Glad you enjoy the CCotD posts. We are coming up on seven and a half years of this thread's life! I still enjoy it, even though we cannot maintain anything close to a chip-a-day posting rate any more.
PG, consider the fantasy scenario in which you had a wife accompanying you on all of your travels and that she had a vote (equal to yours) in choosing when and to where you would travel. How would your collection (and contributions to the thread) stand now?
It's goodQuote: DocOuch!

Haha much lower than it currently stands.

That is so funny. We got married 2010 and had first kid 2012. I collected 90% of my chips from 2006-2012. We were in Ocean City over the summer. I mentioned going to Ocean Downs to grab a chip which added about 20 minutes to our drive. She gave me a hard time about it so I skipped it. damn families.
Quote: PokerGrinderGwae I'm too tired to put together a list for you but you should be able to do it based on my complete chip thread and this TR I wrote when I was collecting in Washington. https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/gambling/trip-reports/29442-dawson-city-yukon-tr/17/#post609115
I am glad that you didn't. Stupid possible client asked me to do a skype call this morning instead of meeting in person tomorrow. I do have my plane ticket already that I cant cancel so I should just go and not tell the wife the meeting was cancelled. Stupid honest gene

20 minutes? Ya never skipping that short of a drive lol.
You’re just going to waste the plane ticket? You should go still!

You may learn that in business it is often better to buy the more expensive cancellable and changeable tickets. Way too many meetings get cancelled or moved to different dates and times.

OR and hear me out... he could get away from his kids and wife for 2 days and go to many many casinos in Washington state!

Yep learned that lesson. The round trip was only $309 through Google. If I bought it through United it was 454 and the one that allows cancels and changes was 493. Seemed like a big peoce difference so I went with cheap one.
I haven't ruled out going yet.
That's the spirit! Without the distraction of that annoying business meeting, you should be able to visit even more casinos and collect more chips!Quote: GWAEI haven't ruled out going yet.

Lol yes that is so true

With two full days you could do the Angeles (I think that’s what it’s called) area too! 😁🤣
Quote: rdw4potusYeah, you should definitely still take the trip. Also, with respect to the business, is there any benefit to an in-person followup? Even if it's just a hand-wag, it can't hurt, can it?
so I didnt go... If it was just my business I would have gone. I have a few partners so I have to justify the expenses. I guess since the plane ticket is a sunk cost anyways I could have gone and just paid for the hotel and car rental but didn't feel like having the "battle" with the wife as to why I just spent $500. I did think about going to see the client anyways but the reason he did a skype call was he is going out of town for the long weekend and wasnt going to be in the office today. I think I screwed up the meeting anyways. I am usually pretty good on sales meetings but this client was tough.
Quote: SisyphusCrap you mean I have to collect them all again...?
hehe... I fixed that for you PG.

Quote: GWAEwhelp Just got off the phone and I will be flying out to meet them and sign a contract next Thursday. So back to chip planning.
Haha congrats. You’re like my sister in med school she would come home crying saying she failed her exam and then get a 90. Sounds like the Skype meeting went well.
How long will you be out there?
Quote: rdw4potusSweet! Congrats! Your presentation must have gone better than you thought.
Thank you.. He called me this afternoon and wanted to address a few concerns. 2 of the concerns were things that I knew I screwed up in the skype. I just didn't answer them how I should have. Especially since I knew I screwed it up, when he brought it up I knew exactly what I needed to say. His CFO called me about 20 minutes ago and said they are going to sign but he wants to do it in person. He is going away until Wed so Thursday it is.

Going to figure it out tomorrow. I told me wife that since I am going to sign and not sell I should get an extra day. Going to try to do thursday -saturday night red eye.
I am going to go through what is posted in here already and see if I can get some to add.

That seems like a fair idea but since you’re married I’ll say good luck lol.
As far as my layover in Mexico I was only able to collect two chips as we arrived in Mexico City at 8 am and flew out at 6 pm. Most of the casinos don’t open their tables until 4. Doc I know you’re going to tell me I should have bought chips at the cage but first I’m not a fan of doing that and also the language barrier made that almost impossible lol.
City: Mexico City
Casino: Casino Palace
Today's chip of the day is from Casino Palace in Mexico City, Mexico. On my way from Cuba back to Canada my friend and I had a 10 hour layover in Mexico City. Sadly we landed in Mexico City at 8 am so I figured that we were going to have trouble finding table games that were open. The first casino that we went to was Casino Palace and at 9:30 am they told us (in Spanish) that the tables didn't open until 1. We decided to continue with our journey to other casinos. After not finding any tables open in a few more spots we stopped at a cafe for a while and then Eric got a massage while I went back to Casino Palace for the opening of the table games.
At 1 they told me it would be 30 more minutes until the BJ table opened so I got a slot card and loaded it with 200 pesos to vulture a Golden Egypt game. I won 106 pesos and when I cashed out they charged me 1.8% on the total cash out as a tax. I found out that I needed to get a different casino card to buy chips for the table games so I went to the third floor to do that. I went back to the BJ table at 1:30 only to be told that it would be open in 30 minutes because the dealer was washing the cards. I figured I misunderstood and the dealer would wash the cards and open the table in 3 minutes. The dealer then washed the cards for 10 minutes straight so I gave up and cashed out 350 of the 400 pesos that I had bought, keeping 2 $25 peso chips for Eric and I. I had told Eric I would meet him at the next casino after his massage and then we had a flight to catch so I didn't think sticking around was a good plan. When I went back downstairs a new dealer had tapped onto the table and she was STILL washing those damn cards! I have no idea why the cards could possibly need that much washing. The first floor of the casino had slot machines, the second floor half slots, half tables and the third floor had the poker room and table games cashier.
The chip is light green with 3 edge inserts in peach, pink and grey. The centre inlay is green with a white centre. Casino Palace and the denomination are gold while bingo and sports book under the casino name are black. At the top of the inlay the word Insurgentes appears in yellow and I had some trouble figuring out what that meant. The word doesn't translate to English so I gave up until I saw on MoGH that it lists the casino as Casino Palace Insurgentes which made me think it might be a location. Insurgentes is the longest avenue in Mexico and it is where the casino is located.
Quote: PokerGrinderYes they do.
so only those weird people in the UK use a different symbol? Looks like I am about to go into a google rabbit hole.
Quote: PokerGrinderDoc I know you’re going to tell me I should have bought chips at the cage but first I’m not a fan of doing that and also the language barrier made that almost impossible lol.
Sounds to me as if you basically bought your souvenir chip, except you had to fight through the language barrier and the casino processes even more than I usually do.Quote: PokerGrinderThe dealer then washed the cards for 10 minutes straight so I gave up and cashed out 350 of the 400 pesos that I had bought, keeping 2 $25 peso chips for Eric and I.
Have you never seen the € symbol? Lots of people use that one.Quote: GWAEso only those weird people in the UK use a different symbol?

Not really as the tables were opening so the proper cashier was open. If that cashier wasn’t open (because the tables weren’t open) I don’t think I would have been able to get the chip.
City: Mexico City
Casino: Caliente Casino
Today's chip of the day is from Caliente Casino in Mexico City, Mexico. Caliente was the 6th of 7 casinos we stopped at during our layover and one of only two where we were able to collect a chip. The casino is in the Tecamachalco suburb of Mexico City. We arrived at Caliente Casino around 3:30 in the afternoon and they had the tables open with players already playing. I sat down and tried to buy in but was told that I had to go sign up for a card first. I did that, the guy forgot to give me my passport back but luckily I was paying attention and back to the BJ table we went. I bought in for 600 pesos at the 100 minimum table. We won a few and lost a few until with time running out until our flight we were up 650 pesos. (with 2 $25 chips pocketed already for keeping) I proposed to Eric that we bet all the profit on one hand and then leave, he said sure why not. I bet 650, got a 5,6 to a dealer 3. We laughed that this was how they were going to get us. I bought 50 more in chips to add to the 600 I bought in for and the dealer dealt us a 2! Crap! Dealer flipped his down card, a Jack and then pulled a King from the shoe for a great win. We high fived as we are laughing and colouring up our chips. We cashed out 2600 pesos for a profit of 1950 and the cashier took a 1% tax on the whole cash out including our buy in. The win wasn't anything special but $100 USD is still real money.
The chip is a green Paulson RHC with 3 edge inserts in yellow, orange and pink. The centre inlay is 1/3 black and 2/3 green with a thin red border. The casino name is in red on the black of the inlay and the denomination is white on the green of the inlay. The bottom of the inlay has "ZS002" in white which I assume has something to do with the set of chips.
Great story otherwise. Andelay!
When I first looked at the photo, I thought the inlay background was 100% black. Had to look really close to pick out the dividing line, which I eventually did. I guess a lot of the photos we post look different on different screens.Quote: PokerGrinderThe centre inlay is 1/3 black and 2/3 green with a thin red border.
Is that ZS002 some kind of serial number, or was it the same on all the $25 chips?
BTW, I appreciate the addition of chips from Mexico. Prior to your posts, we only had chips from two casinos to represent that entire country.

I'll miss the existence of that place. Was a fun theme for a casino, though it sounded like their promos were bad.
Couldn't eat at the Hooters restaurant because only bar seats were available and the then-toddler was in tow. Ate at the coffee shop instead, where all the servers were European grandmas.
