Had a conversation with the Mrs. over the weekend regarding potential additional trips this year. One possibility includes a visit to some of the Michigan casinos, though I wouldn't even consider trying to get to the bulk of the state. This "theoretically possible" trip would involve getting to Canada via Ohio and the Detroit area. It's the type of trip that we southerners would only consider in the summer.Quote: rdw4potusIf only hassling worked so well on Doc. He'd be halfway through Michigan by now...:-)
Casino locations on the list for that trip include Cincinnati, Cleveland, Toledo, three stops in Detroit plus the one to the south in Windsor, Point Edward, a return to the renamed spot in Gananoque, then back in the states to Chittenango. Maybe someday the rest of Michigan will make it on the list, but that's not likely to happen in the near future.
We made a day trip yesterday up to Harrah's Cherokee, just to let me lose a little more to them at the craps table, and found a piece of info that I hadn't heard before. Back in February of last year, BBB posted a link to the story about a truck having fallen through the deck of their hotel parking garage, a problem that seemed to take a very long time to get resolved.
Anyway, yesterday we learned that the main casino parking garage is mostly closed, with limited space available to Diamond and 7Stars members. I picked up a couple of rumors but no fact-filled report of what happened. I asked a security guard for the story; he said he really didn't know and that even if he did he wouldn't be allowed to say. All they are allowed to report is that it is closed for repairs. Anyone know the real background?

Gah! really? So now both garages are closed? That's got to hurt them heading into the peak season...
Does that mean the hotel parking deck is open again?
It was closed still in late March ( I boycotted in April ;-)
Also boycotting in May.......
And the Casino deck does rattle quite a bit as them big SUVs lumber thru...
The whole place may have been built by Injuns...;-)
I've still got my Diamond from 2015, but don't know when I'll check it out, not soon apparently.
This year 24 hours solid play at black (avg) doesn't get you back to Diamond (15,000), not even after the 10,000 loyalty bonus. Smells fishy, I'll take rod and reel next time ;-)
When I was speaking to the security guard (and not getting details about the current issue), I commented that if the casino parking deck problem was a structural defect like the failure at the hotel parking deck, then maybe it was time for some lawsuits against the construction contractor(s), provided that the contractor was not part of the tribe itself, or closely aligned. He said that all of the construction was non-tribal and that the two parking decks were built by different contractors several years apart.Quote: TwoFeathersATLThe whole place may have been built by Injuns...;-)
We feel it less than necessary to tell the truth to the 'white man'.
Particularly be wary of asking directions, might lead you to the cliff's edge ;-)
Might add a 'nudge'......
PG, also if you did not know that you can make that change to your list.
This also goes for cincy and possibly 1 other one but I can't remember.
Quote: GWAEDoc, not sure if you are aware but Horseshoe Cleveland was sold. The new name is Jack. Horseshoe will be closing on the 9th or 10th of May and opening a day later.

Thanks for the info GWAE, I heard months ago and I think posted it in this thread. The three changing are Cleveland, Cincinnati and Greektown in Detroit.
Edit: That is actually the reason I stopped there end of January. I wanted to collect them before they changed the name. Yes I am insane lol.
Quote: GWAEDoc, not sure if you are aware but ....
Yes. I have chips from the Horseshoe casinos in Cincy and Cleveland and would be looking to add Jack chips if I make that trip. I have never been to Greektown but expect it to have changed name, too, before I make it there.

I knew it was the same owners as Greek town but I didn't realize they were changing that name as well. I received my new jack players card in the mail on saturday. I was given an A. I would assume because I am platinum with CET and they probably were given the players list from cleveland.

Caesars is pulling out of the Ohio market and Dan Gilbert is taking full control. He already has 100% of Greektown. Caesars was never a part of GT.

That's what I meant. I knew the GT owner was taking Ohio. I didn't realize he was changing the name of GT as well.
IbY, how does GT rate VP players. Worth hammering? Would appreciate a PM if you have any info you are willing to share.
1) Tropicana Laughlin chip that I collected since they changed their name a while back as Doc noted in his CotD post.
2) Pioneer Crossing Casino from Yerington. I had actually beed to this casino two years ago but I was four hours early for the tables and didn't feel like waiting.
3) Fernley Nugget, can you guess where this is from???
4) Carson Valley Inn I ended up here when I GPS spazzed on me and took me there instead of Topaz Lodge which added about 90 minutes of driving when I was short on time.
5) I did eventually get to the Topaz Lodge just in time to watch two drunken friends beating the living crap out of each other. Didn't stay long obviously.
Chips from Wendover.
1) Montego Bay
2) Peppermill
3) Rainbow
4) Red Garter
5) Wendover Nugget
Wendover Nugget back of chip
New Longhorn chip, I previously collected a token but went back when I heard they had started using these.
Winners and Model T I got tokens 2 years ago and got these $5 chips this trip. I bought this $5 chip from Hotel Nevada in Ely because I wouldn't have gotten back for the Friday dinner if I had waited until the tables opened up which was the only place they had $1 chips. I only played 2 hands of BJ at Stockmen's because the game was running so slow. It was hands down the drunkest group of BJ players I have ever seen.
Stockman's, Stagecoach and Diamonds chips were all places I got a token from 2 years ago and was just adding a real chip this time around. The Skyline chip I got after the Friday get together when Konbu and I went to play BJ there. We then also drove to Laughlin for the new Tropicana chip. I think I was at Skyline once before but the tables have extremely limited hours.
Other side of Diamonds chip.
As of this moment I have a complete set of all available chips in Nevada. This won't last long as I know of 3 chips that will be new and available in the next 6 months.
City: Carson City
Casino: Max
Chip of the day today is from the Max Casino in Carson City, Nevada. Max Casino is the former Carson Station which I visited 2 years ago. I actually ended up visiting this casino twice on this trip. I had planned out a long drive from Las Vegas to Reno which had me getting to the Max Casino before the tables closed at midnight. Between some playing delays and my GPS deciding to hate me for some reason I didn't get to the casino until after 2 am. They wouldn't sell me a chip so I had to go back the next day. Not a huge deal as it is only 40 minutes from Reno but still a hassle.
I won a couple bucks playing BJ but ended up down $65 after playing a slot promo they were running. Something like any bonus over $20 paid $20 in free play. Well I lost $80 on the slot machine without ever getting the bonus. oh well.
The name changeover took place July 29, 2015. They had 3 BJ tables and 1 carnival poker game but I can't for the life of me remember which one it was. If you are wondering if this Max Casino has anything to do with one in Las Vegas, it does. They are owned by the same company which is pretty obvious since the chips are almost identical. The chip is a blue Paulson RHC with two edge inserts in pink and brown. The center inlay is black with the casino logo and denomination in orange and the location in white.
It has been a long time since I have done one of these write ups, I had trouble remembering what information to include. I have one more to post tomorrow and then I am out of chips again.

Quote: teddysThat logo looks exactly the same as the logo for the Max casino at the Westin in Las Vegas. Any relation?
C'mon, teddys, are you trying to tell us that you didn't read all of PokerGrinder's post? Where's the dedication? (I'm sure he wouldn't have edited his post later just to make you look bad.)
Quote: rdw4potusDid the Hotel Nevada in Battle Mountain take out their blackjack game?
No they have BJ but it didn't open until 4 and I needed to be in Vegas by 7 for dinner with you guys (and your gals). I played VP and bought this commemorative chip at the cage, next time I am through the area I will stop and get a $1 chip.
City: Stateline
Casino: Hard Rock
Today's chip of the day is from the new Hard Rock Casino Lake Tahoe in Stateline, It is the former Horizon Casino. I never got a chip from Horizon as it closed a couple weeks after I first was there. Either way I think the tables were removed years before I was there anyways. The Hard Rock opened on January 28, 2015. Casino City says that they only have 500 slots and 24 tables but for some reason I remember it being much larger. That might be due to the fact that I was almost delirious from exhaustion. I won $60 playing BJ but got unlucky and could have been up a bunch more. I had won 5 hands in a row with a BJ mixed in so my bet was up to like $36 plus dealer tip. I had 33 into a 6, not sure the exact layout of the hand but I think I ended up with 4 bets up. I think it was two splits and a double on one of them. Anyway dealer has a 6 under and fails on three attempts at busting, pulls A,2 and a 5. We were both sad as she would have made a bunch as well. Oh well that is why they call it gambling.
The chip is a white Paulson RHC with 8 alternating blue and yellow edge inserts. Each edge insert covers a hat and cane, I am not sure if this was done on purpose but I like it. The chip has an over-sized center inlay with a grey mesh pattern on it. The Hard Rock logo is in the middle of the chip and takes up most of the space. The location, denomination and casino name are all in black. I like this chip a lot, it is very stylish without having too much going on. The Hard Rock Las Vegas should take a hint and get rid of their ugly chips.
This will be my last CotD for a while. My next planned chip to collect is from the new Shooting Star Casino they are building in Bagley, MN about 45 minutes from the other Shooting Star currently in operation. I think the new location is about 4 hours from me and I can get a free room at the Mahnomen Shooting Star. Other than that I have plans for a 53 chip, 2 week whirlwind trip through Oklahoma, half of Louisiana, one in Arkansas, a little bit of Mississippi and the last two Kansas casinos I haven't been to. Thanks RDW for that one (mostly sarcasm) who suggested "why not add your Louisiana and Oklahoma trips together, it makes total sense?". Well RDW 53 chips in two weeks is why not but now I can't undo it cause your craziness actually makes some sense.

Hey man! If driving from MB to MS made sense to you to begin with, then driving from MB to MS via OK almost HAS to also make sense:-)

It's more of a drive down eastern Oklahoma into Shreveport to MS for a few quick stops. Back through Louisiana to lake Charles and then up and down through the rest of Oklahoma, hitting the Kansas ones on my way back north.
Normal people don't do things like this, I really should get my head checked. (Can I get suspended for a personal insult to myself?)

All the denominations are set up the exact same way. I didn't analyze every chip when I was there but I assume they were all the same. It's funny I never would have noticed the offset if you hadn't mentioned it.
When I added this chip to the index, I thought perhaps it was time to bug rdw4potus once again to make those edits so that I could add the Grand Palais to the index, too. What do I find? He made the changes four days ago, and I hadn't even noticed! Thanks rdw!
Update on this thread: We've now reached the 5,800 posts mark and are right about 4,400 short of the million-views mark.
Edit 10/6/17: I finally picked up my own Hard Rock Lake Tahoe chip, and it is just like the one that PG posted. I am posting it here to show how it looks under UV light. No, I have not located any hidden treasures as we often discover on these chips with the repeated names revealed by UV light.

If you are going to drive 8 hours from Vegas to Reno it would be silly not to drive 4 hours to Wendover. I'm channeling my inner RDW I think. Also while writing this I'm not sure if you did it today but you hadn't indexed the new max chip as of last night.

I'm not sure I'd seriously suggest a trip to Wendover and back for the Docs, mostly because I do want to see Mrs Doc again without fearing for my life. But, in addition to the distance, it's worth pointing out that the drive from Reno to Wendover along I80 and back along US 50 (gotta get to Ely!) is about 100x prettier than the drive from Vegas to Reno up 95.
But then the denomination at the bottom would be 'feathered'. Tee hee, yourself ;-!Quote: AyecarumbaQuote: TwoFeathersATLI don't mean to sound insulting, truly, but I could have written that;-)Quote: AyecarumbaQuote: PokerGrinderState: Nevada

It appears that at least one of you is making the assumption that I would be driving from Las Vegas to Reno. Lol! The timing makes that such a hard drive. Late afternoon pit openings in Winnemucca and Elko and battle mountain, and midnight closures in Fernley, jackpot, and Wendover. But it sure was pretty.
Doc I know you are probably admiring how I store and showcase my collection (it sits in a drawer) so I give you permission to copy my storage/display idea if you would like.
Btw like on Doc's desk it is very easy to see where the Nevada chips start and finish.
Also looks like a new Indian casino is opening up in Gardnerville, NV. I'm not sure yet whether they will have tables but I assume that they will. Or I hope I guess. It's going to be called Wa She Shu Casino and Travel Plaza.

I don't think it ever kicked out! The only alternate theory I can offer about the Max chip entry is that I was too focused on a smarta$$ reply to teddys's post. Anyway, thanks for the reminder, and I have it taken care of now.
So when is Wa She Shu to open? I'll put it on my list.

Casino: Normandie
Today's chip of the day comes from the Normandie card club in Gardena, CA. Gardena is an LA suburb, and is also home to the Hustler card club. Normandie has 68 tables, including several poker variations, PGP, PG tiles, baccarat, blackjack, and 3CP.
Here's a picture of the property:
I played BJ at Normandie. I didn't write down all the rules, and their website also doesn't list them. I did note, and the website does confirm, that BJ pays 3:2. That's very rare in California card clubs, so I assume that some other rule(s) must be quite restrictive to offset that payout. As variance would have it, I lost my $60 buyin without experiencing a payout on a BJ, though I did manage to make it take about 45 minutes before I'd lost that money.
The MOGH lists this chip as a house mold. It looks a lot like Bud Jones chips that we've seen from other casinos, like the Hacienda in Boulder City. I assume that the MOGH's classification of this chip is incorrect.
Word is the Normandie, after some penalties and negotiated pleas to helping high rollers avoid taxes by not filing required paperwork, splitting winning payouts into smaller amounts or putting other's names on them, has been sold to the Hustler, leaving the Flynts as the sole owners of all the legal gambling establishments in Gardena, California. Of interest to this thread is the word that the joint will be renamed the "Lucky Lady" and chips with the new name will be issued in late June.
Awesome Aye. I somehow completely missed that news story, must have happened while I was away the last few weeks.
The closing of the Normandie Club in Gardena, California is in the news. The article also mentions problems with Chula Vista's "Seven Mile Club" (aka: "Villiage Club").
No mention of a new name or chips if it re-opens as "Hustler Part Deux"

About 25 miles from Seattle,
Craps:
The Table was 5$ min even when it was packed. (on mother's day)
3-4-5 odds
Vig upfront
No special bet ( no fire, nor ATS nor Sharpshooter)
Triple on the field 12, yeah!
Prop bets pay "to"
The tables are pretty small, I am bad at evaluating that, maybe 12'
The table doesn't have much bounce to it (I'm thinking DIs would like the tables)
Crew was pretty good except one confused newbie but the others had his back.
I don't really play Blackjack but I looked a little
BJ payed 3/2
Looked like at least 8 deck shoe
Hit on soft 17
Side bet was Match the dealer
Lowest minimum I saw was 10$
I did not see it on the list on the first page so here it goes
As far as Wa She Shu Casino (I really like the name, or maybe I just like saying it) the travel plaza is opening/opened March of 2916 as per World Casino Directory. I am going to go out on limb and assume that this is a typo that was supposed to be 2016, otherwise I don't think any of us will see it open in our lifetimes. The casino is slated to open at the end of October, 2016.
Aye thanks for the update on Normandie. Sounds like it will most likely reopen as a new named card room. Have you heard how the issues with Palomar and Seven Mile will affect things?
Wonko33 nice chip, I am assuming when Doc sees it he will ask you to add in the standard chip of the day headers in bold like this:

GWAE you mean line up the marks of the chips in each rack? They would just move again every time I touch the rack though.

This site has a series of progress reports on both the Travel Plaza and the Casino. The latest report says 130 slot machines and does not mention table games at all. Soft opening on 5/23/16 and grand opening on 5/25/16. Doesn't seem like the kind of place that would operate table games, but then there is the Alamo in Las Vegas. Don't think I'll bother putting it on my list. Let me know if you find out I am mistaken.
On a separate topic, hey Wono33, nice Snoqualmie chip added to the thread! Looks like a Bud Jones design that we have seen before, although there is no BJ logo clearly visible, and there is often some confusion on the source of some of these ceramic chips. Thanks for posting!
PokerGrider was correct about my nerdiness: We do try to maintain some consistency in the formatting of the "official" Casino Chip of the Day posts. If you can add the usual headers to your post before your editing window expires, I will add this chip to the directory. If you aren't familiar with the formatting techniques, just click "Reply" to this post, copy the stuff behind the spoiler button below (between the "spoiler" start and stop instructions), then click "Cancel" and paste what you copied at the very top of your post.
We also usually post the chip image itself at the bottom of the post, so make that edit if you can and wish to follow the usual format.
If you can't get these edits made, I'll ask one of the moderators to assist us with this.

I actually drove by this place (twice cause I left my drivers licence at Topaz Lodge, that cost me 20 minutes) and it was just a gas station with slot machines. Whoops my bad! Oh btw Doc did I not call what your next post would be in my previous post? (about headers)
This has been my favorite thread for a while now and I was glad when I saw I could contribute.
I started collecting chips after I saw this here, only places I personally gambled. I also like to get a die, sadly it seems that they will not sell them in Canada where I do a good proportion of my gambling. My biggest disappointment is that I had not started collecting before I went to Venice, I would love to have that chip, oh well just an excuse to go again.

That is true I can't say I have ever seen dice for sale in Canadian casino. Are you from Canada or Seattle area? Oh that is too bad that you started collecting after Venice, that would have been a very cool chip to have in your collection. I am glad that I started collecting chips right when I started gambling so that I didn't miss any. That would drive me nuts lol.
