Iowa- Isle of Capri Bettendorf, Harrah's Council Bluffs, Horseshoe's sister hotels Council Bluffs

Missouri- Harrah's Kansas City, Argosy Kansas City, Harrah's St Louis
West Virginia- Wheeling Island
Quote: Mission146How are the rooms at Wheeling Island, Tiltpoul? Just curious. I've obviously never had a reason to stay there.
The rooms aren't bad. They aren't great either, and from what I understand, it's the worst hotel connected to a casino in West Virginia (Then again, the competition is Mountaineer, a resort, and The Greenbriar, which is ALL about the resort and less about the casino.) It's about on par with a Best Western.

I really like Belterra but not so much that I have made the
drive down there in the past year.
I'm impressed on your comp / pay ratio. On my Vegas list,
I have pretty much paid for everything except Rio and
Terrible's. But have gotten some pretty good deals at
some of the others.
Quote: bigfoot66Would love to hear more about that second entry :) you get busted out or did you plan on sleeping in the car?
Neither...just young, stupid and too spontaneous. The good news is I was at the top of the parking garage and my car has a moon roof lol. If only I knew about WoV and how easy it is to get a free room.

Quote: teddysYou still have some good ones to look forward to except for Railroad Pass and Hacienda. Those are dismal.
Maybe Railroad Pass will get a little better after the bus schedule changes in early July - they're getting rid of the hourly 402 that runs past RP into Boulder City, and expanding the HDX to take its place. Of course, that assumes that all of the HDX buses will run the full route, as opposed to all but one per hour turning around at Nevada State College or College of Southern Nevada. Hacienda (and M, for that matter) is not on my itinerary until I bite the bullet one of these years and rent a car, but since I always go alone, it's never really worth the cost.
Oh, and if we're including non-Vegas casinos:
King's Castle (Tahoe (apparently it's now the Hyatt Regency & Grand Lodge Casino Lake Tahoe), although I didn't do any gambling, considering that I was only 8 at the time - they did have a pretty decent pinball arcade, if my fading memory serves me)
El Dorado (Reno - the only non-Vegas casino where I have gambled, albeit mainly VP and a video quarter horse game where the races were on laserdisc)
I stayed at another one in the mid-1970s, almost certainly in South Lake Tahoe, but can't remember which one - I vaguely remember an MGM-based slot machine, but I don't think there were any MGM casinos in Reno or Tahoe before 1978, which is definitely after when I was there.
Terrible's (the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in)
Monte Carlo
South Point
El Cortez
Bally's (stayed here many times, mostly comped, almost always booked south tower room, every single time I've been given a room in the north tower without asking, tipping etc, including this last time where the desk clerk tried to sell me the north tower upgrade for $10 a night, I refused, and she put me in the north tower anyway)

If anyone has any questions about casinos in the Midwest I've probably played at a lot of them.
Ceasars - X4 reduced price
Harrahs - when comped
Rio - preferred Vegas location (walk to good VP at Gold Coast and Palms)
Red Rock - very nice
You'll notice mostly CET properties, they've been very generous with their comps. I play in Biloxi and stay in Vegas. Go figure.
In the order my scattered memory will allow:

Harrah's Tunica - several times since 2009
Fitz Tunica - 2010
Harrah's N. Kansas City - 2011, 2012

Paris was by far the best, the rooms are fluffy and look expensive to damage. Parking is a nightmare. It's a hotel for girls. The IP was okay and the parking was okay. 35th floor view of parking garage, the balcony was different. The Rio is great, but would be sweet to be on the strip.

Long version, with dates and other stuff, if you're really interested in all of the dirty details:
Early 90s - stayed in the Circus Circus parking lot in my parent's tent trailer. No gambling as I was underage :). It was hot as hell; high summer out on that pavement. No, my parents were not degenerate gamblers. We were on a family camping trip and made a stop-off in Las Vegas. In retrospect, I'm not sure why we went there. My parents were not just not degenerates, I don't believe either of them have ever placed a non-friendly wager in their lives.
January, 2008 - Stratosphere
First trip to Vegas as an adult. I came to town for an Ultimate tournament, which you'll see is a recurring theme. Bunked with my teammates, 4 to a room. Did not place a bet on this trip.
Spring, 2010 - Tropicana
Same Ultimate tourney. First trip where I gambled. Butchered some BJ strategy, lost about $600, then learned how to play craps and fell in love with the game, and the free drinks. Made the $600 back, along with about $60 extra. Although I got all my money out of ATMs!
December, 2010 - Flamingo
Came to watch my Boise State Broncos in the Maaco Bowl Las Vegas. $1000 bankroll for the trip; lost $1100 playing craps, won $100 on the Broncos. My last losing trip to Vegas. I actually was just digging through some emails and realized I booked this room through Expedia, and paid $179.95 for 5 nights at the Flamingo. Jesus Christ, I didn't know it was possible to pay that much there!
March 2011 - Luxor, Flamingo
Back for the Ultimate tournament. Friday night I actually crashed on a local's couch; we had a few local players pick up on our team. Saturday night crashed in the team room at the Luxor, and I stayed at the Flamingo Sunday night after everyone else left. Officially caught the craps bug, winning several thousand dollars on pure luck.
December 2011 - Flamingo
Back for the Vegas bowl. One night trip, stayed at the Flamingo. My first trip card-counting.
March 2012 - Excalibur, Luxor, Flamingo
Back for the Ultimate tournament. Stayed at Excalibur Thursday night just to try out an MLife property, it sucked and it wasn't even a full comp. Feh. Stayed with the team at Luxor, and then stayed on 2 extra nights at Flamingo. Last time I've paid for a hotel room in Vegas so far, hopefully ever.
April 2012 - Bally's
Bachelor party! This was a lot of fun. I brought way too much cash, intending to split it into "AP bankroll" and "non-AP bankroll." Never works, lol. I played craps with my AP bankroll but somehow managed to not lose money this trip.
October 2012 - Flamingo
HB weigh-in, good times. Full trip report on my blog if you're interested.
May 2013 - Paris
WovCon /// - trip report still pending.
10th trip to Vegas (as an adult) is in the works now...probably early next year...I didn't play in the Ultimate tournament this year due to my team not putting in a bid, but I will try to get back next year assuming my knee is fully rehabbed and I can find a team to play with.
This was fun...walk down memory lane.
First a disclaimer: I have lived in AC and I currently reside in LV however I'm out of the country for a while.
I will start with LV:
Stayed in:
Planet Hollywood - Can't remember much, wasn't there for very long. I remember Earl of Sandwich for some reason. When I was so drunk, that sandwich tasted better than anything I have ever had!
Paris - Stayed there for my batchelors. Played craps until 10AM (session of about 7 hours total), hopped up on Red Bul and Jaegermeister. Visited the Playboy club and met Corey Feldman!
TI (Treasure Island) - Stayed there while on business, also while trying to find a spot to live in LV. We finally settled on "Hendertucky".....love that name, oh btw, we are now new home owners so if anybody wants to come around for a BBQ when I'm back!!!!
Mandalay Bay - Used to work there
Golden Nugget - One of my favorite properties just because it is laid back and I like the people. Yeah they even let me count outside in the pool while I was half swimming, half drunk and made no secret of what I was doing. My 1 to 4 bet spread betting a nickel obviously didn't phase them :)
Green Valley Ranch - Love the rooms and the courtyard/pool. Very nice property. Station casinos welcome counters btw. No heat as far as I can tell?
Been in:
Every single other casino in LV, big, small, fat, thin, slot parlor or not :)
Rest of the US:
Bally's - Was there for a birthday sometime
Borgata - Stayed there for my 33rd birthday and wanted to play hard 6's all the time. We were on our way to old homestead for dinner (reservations at 7 of course) when I played craps one last time. Had a bet (planned to parlay $5 bet 3 times, hit it and get the hell out). Gave up after the first one missed. Stood at the game betting the line, watching an old lady roll 5 hard 6's in ten rolls............................FML
Chinook winds, OR - Nice place, cold in July though
Been in a ton all around:
World:
I have now been to a total of 75 casinos worldwide. I have chips from all of them. I'll hook up with Doc or RW4potus at some point and see if they would be interested in any of them. - Most interesting casinos would be Korea, Vietnam, Argentina.
To say casinos have been a large part of my life, both playing and working would be the understatement of the century.
I'm out.............
Quote: ThatDonGuyMaybe Railroad Pass will get a little better after the bus schedule changes in early July - they're getting rid of the hourly 402 that runs past RP into Boulder City, and expanding the HDX to take its place.
However, when they changed the route, they made it hourly (and it skips most of Boulder Highway now, using I-515 to get from downtown to Henderson, except for a turnoff at Sunset Station).
At least with a car, I can also get to M.

If I ever go back out without Mrs. Q, I would probably use myVegas redemptions to stay at some more, just to see what they are like. But that could involve some extra check-ins and outs, which are generally a hassle.
So that makes #26 & #27. Both of these are high on my list of places I'd like to stay at.
Palms or Palms Place?Quote: JohnnyQOn my next trip later this year, I have nights reserved at PALMS and TRUMP TOWER.
So that makes #26 & #27. Both of these are high on my list of places I'd like to stay at.
I'd have to put my vote for Treasure Island. Anyone else?
I think the regular old Palms. Anyway, whichever one has a Travelzoo rate of $ 35 + resort fee but including 2 free breakfast buffets.Quote: teddysPalms or Palms Place?
Thanks. Once or twice or three times a year for many if not most of the past 20 or so years. So it adds up. This upcoming trip at the end of the year will be my 3rd.Quote: GWAEVery impressive list. How many times a year do you go?
