Quote: TiltpoulTwenties to Twinkies if anybody can tell what musical has a song that features the line "Dollars to Donuts..."
It can be googled so I have it. That's 'no fair' so I won't claim my winnings or reveal it here either.

Okay, nobody's biting on this one... I'll give it a bit longer, but for you odious, a bonus question that you may not be able to google...
What does the plot of that musical and this website have in common? A hint: While the plot has distinct storylines, it all centers around this one event...

Twinkies are still expensive.
How about, "Twenties to toothpicks"?

hmmm. The plot of a musical from this pair is often involving difficult romance [is that how to put it?] with possible racial equality subthemes. The musical in question, which I almost accidentally revealed, I haven't seen and it could be different. A big wheel of fortune of some kind could be involved. So I'll guess both the musical and this website center around luck or random events!
Umm..... sorry, that one is terrible, lol.Quote: DJTeddyBearLincolns to Lincoln Logs
And isn't Lincoln on the penny?

Doesn't seem like anybody is interested in this bit of trivia. The musical is State Fair, by Rodgers, Hammerstein et al. (et al because of the fact that the orchestrations for the stage musical were done after their death.
The commonality between the two involves a bet. The rival farmer of the Frakes bets Mr. Frake $5 that he would lose at the fair. The pig takes a blue ribbon, and both children find their own personal happiness, and the rival pays off the bet.
By the way, the line in the musical is "Our State Fair is a great State Fair... don't miss it, don't even be late. It's DOLLARS TO DONUTS that our State Fair is the best State Fair in our state!"
Which is of course, the great state of Iowa...
So what other well-known musical takes place in Iowa? Hint: It won one of the first Tony Awards.

Even though "Gary, Indiana" is a song from it, I think "River City" is supposed to be in Iowa. So my guess is "The Music Man". Do you owe me a Twenty or do I owe you a Twinkie? Or was the bet off? [g]
btw Wikipedia somehow decided that the singular of Twinkies is not spelled Twinky but Twinkie.
I've always said this little skit will test you 3 ways: whether you like musicials, whether you like barber-shop quartet, and whether you like salesmen even, in spite of themselves.
Quote: odiousgambitSo it isn't such a good expression and I am looking for another, as you can see.
"Dongs to Dollars".
Works best in negative, like "I wouldn't bet dongs to dollars on Obama pulling out of the recession".

Not bad. I had to check this out. Takes about 21,000 Vietnamese Dongs to make a dollar. So Dollars to Dongs works, but whether you used that or Dongs to Dollars you would want to be prepared to explain.
