Lets say I hit on a number, $350-and up. I dont tip like this....give the dealer $10.
What I do, I'll put $10-$15 on a street and call it out. If it hits, thats your tip. Yep, sometimes it does hit and they are quite happy. I recently put $15 on the 0/00 and it hit !! $255 for them, not a problem.
The one issue I do have, different dealers have two different styles. Whats your CALL on this? .....Lets say I put $10 on a street (for a tip), it hits. They get their $110. Should I not get my $10 back? Some dealers say its part of the tip and some give it back to me. Kind of odd. Do you guys/gals tip in the same manner as I do?
Ken
But the question of what happens to the wager is not specific to Roulette.
When you place the bet, unless you also specify "Player Control," then it's up to casino rules what happens to it after a win. Some casinos insist that it goes into the tip box, some do not.
Some do not allow "Player Control." If the casino allows "Player Control," then only the win goes into the tip box. The player has the option of moving the wager.
Most dealers bet the white, and lock up red or higher, when given the choice.
"Player control" tip betting cannot be forbidden by the casinos, as it's really the player's money in action on his own stack that he simply promised as a tip. If a player bet $11 and said "player control" (where the $1 tip is slightly offset), this really is no different than betting $11, and throwing in $10 to the dealer if the $11 bet had hit a 10:1 payout, for example.
When I played in Puerto Rico, I could not make a pure dealer bet (in front of the betting spot, or wagered alone next to another bet). You had to bet it on your stack, then throw in the dealer's share of the winnings.

It's almost always considered entirely a tip. You bet $10 for the dealers and the total take down is $110, then the entire $110 goes into the toke box. Otherwise it would be tip sharing with the players. Dealers can't take that action.
I meant to include that it would be in bad taste to do anything with that original wager other than either hand it in as a tip, or to keep it in action as a tip bet. I.E. Don't pick it up and return it to your own stack.Quote: DJTeddyBearSome do not allow "Player Control." If the casino allows "Player Control," then only the win goes into the tip box. I absolutely agree. For one thing it makes the player look cheap, largely because it's a msierly kind of action. I mean, if the tip lost in a wager for the dealers, would you hand them another chip of equal value as tip because the one that lost was yours? Of course not.
Now, that doesn't mean player control is a bad idea. You can place a chip as a wager-tip, if it wins let the dealers keep the payoff and re-bet the original stakes. You keep this up for a few rolls at craps and they'll carry you out on their shoulders :)

If the dealer returns it, I guess it's OK to put it back in your bank, but I think the right thing to do is to put it back in play as another dealer tip bet. It doesn't have to be the same type of bet, but it should always stay in action until lost or dropped into the tip bucket.Quote: mrjjj... My question was, what about the original $10. Who should get that?
Quote: mrjjj"You bet $10 for the dealers and the total take down is $110, then the entire $110 goes into the toke box" >>> Yes, I know that. My question was, what about the original $10. Why should get that?

Because you are tipping the dealer the $10. The result of that tip is either $0, or whatever that earns by winning plus the original bet. I can't imagine anyone making a generous $10 tip for a dealer, after it winning for the dealer, would not want the entire amount to go to the dealer. Once you put that $10 up, you should consider it gone, either to the casino or the dealer.
