Nine defendants: legislators, lobbyists, slot machine parlor owners soon to be on trial after eleven people were arrested. First day scheduled to be opening statements.
Even though these are faux "slot machines" someone must realize there is alot of money to be made.

Lawyers and Judge hope to get a full jury panel sworn in today, yesterday having been spent in Voir Dire examination of the veniremen and the lawyers making optimistic statements to the reporters mobbing the courthouse. Several politicians on the proposed witness list are probably just there "for show" but one major issue involved is simply the right of a citizen to make a political contribution irrespective of some possible notion that some members of the public will view it as a bribe.
Three guilty pleas already but most of those arrested are going to trial and despite a very no-nonsense, stick to the schedule judge, it promises to be a lengthy trial.
NOTE: Still no jury.

Four days of testimony: state Senator implicated defendants who had already pleaded guilty, tried to distance himself from the others and minimize the significance of his having used "we" in several tape recorded meetings.
So far its all emphasizing the vote buying rather than any of the economics of Bingo Slots, yet one of the bribes is alleged to have been a million dollar publicity contract.

... Retrial In Alabama Bingo Case
The judge who presided over a corruption prosecution against several Alabama lawmakers scheduled a retrial after jurors deadlocked.
The first trial ended without a single conviction. Jurors rendered not guilty verdicts for most charges, acquitting state Sen. Quinton Ross and lobbyist Bob Geddie completely. But they deadlocked on 33 counts.
