I have just returned from a cruise on the Norwegian Sun. The casino was nice with a good assortment of games and the dealers were fun and knowledgeable. That being said I have never seen so much stupid play in my life!
I played 3-Card Poker and Blackjack.
Numerous 3CP players would only play the pairplus bet and it was very common for people that made the ante bet to stay in no matter what they had. The dealers would gently advise the players that they should only stay with a Q or better, but it did no good.
Blackjack had so many dumb players that I had to leave the table several times to keep from making any comments. One particular player would never take a hit if he had 11 or more no matter what the dealer was showing! Others were splitting 5s against a 6. People playing the $5 table (paid 6-5) for $25 when the other tables at $10 minimum or more all paid 3-2. My favorites may have been the people "teaching" their friends how to play. Not hitting 12-16 against the dealers 10 or ace. When they did win these hands they would tell their friends that this is the smart play. And they would shake their heads and quietly comment to each other when I took cards and busted. I know they were saying "See, I told you so." I could go on and on.
As for my own gambling, after 7 days of play, my wife and I only lost $300. All of that loss came from a side trip to Atlantis in Nassau where we dropped a quick $400 in just 2 hours.

Sounds like you had a bunch of people who don't normally go in a casino unless they were stuck on ship. And perhaps get their training from favorite TV shows with fictional casino action. : )

As dumb as all that play is, I hope you at least meant "if he had 12 or more."Quote: timberjimOne particular player would never take a hit if he had 11 or more no matter what the dealer was showing!

Superstitions are silly, childish, irrational rituals, born out of fear of the unknown. But how much does it cost to knock on wood? 😁

I believe he meant 11. The player probably thought he'd bust if he caught an Ace! I've see all this and worse. Staying with A,3 against a dealers 10, splitting tens against a dealers 10 and walking up to the table and asking "is this Blackjack" and then setting down to play.

That's nothing. I've seen people playing Keno. I've even seen people playing Lotto!
(come to think of it, I've played lotto. Just what are you implying?)

I have sailed on the Sun a couple times. Nice ship.
Typically on cruises there will be a gambling special each night to bring people in. I love it when the special is 'Double odds on craps!' (Instead of single).

Yes, I did mean 11! I watched this guy several times during the week playing $25 a hand and losing $500 in a very short time.

The ship and crew were great. They did give out various freebies for Heart flushes and Heart BJs on Valentines Day. The passengers this time of year were on the geriatric side to say the least. I am in my 50s and felt like a young punk amongst all the walkers and scooters.
