I just came across this article, quite by accident. To quote the Wiz:

"I see people playing horribly all the time, and unless someone asks me my opinion, I just keep my mouth shut, and let them, you know, go right down the road of throwing their money away to the casino."

This falls under the category of 'never wise up a chump'. WC Fields said something similar with 'Never give a sucker an even break'.
The thing is, chumps don't want to be wised up, they like being chumps. Wising them up can be dangerous, you're far better off leaving them alone in their chumpiness. I actually enjoy seeing chumps in action, it would never occur to me to interfere. I don't enjoy seeing people lose, but it doesn't exactly bother me either. The Wiz and I don't see eye to eye on everything, but on this we're in agreement. Leave the chumps alone, its their money to lose.

The exact quote is WC Fields, as Larson E. Whipsnade, in You Can't Cheat an Honest Man: "As my dear old grandfather Litvak said (just before they swung the trap), he said 'You can't cheat an honest man. Never give a sucker an even break or smarten up a chump.'"
