I live in Portland where the summer climate is pretty moderate.

But summers are brutal in sin city.

My question: what is the average indoor temperature typically found in people's air conditioned homes and in public buildings during the hottest days of summer?

Here I set the AC at around 71 and it stays there: what about in LV?

My suspicion is it is too hot to keep it that cool, so the average temp is higher.

Your temp will be whatever you set your air-conditioning to, however it will cost you from 300 to 400 a month during the summer months. During the winter you pay like $50.-100 a month. Whatever the case, I would trade you Portland for Vegas any time. FYI they both have crazy people skulking around.

I'm not anywhere near Vegas, but over a decade ago I got rid of the CRT TV & CRT computer monitor and replaced regular lightbulbs with those low watt curly lightbulbs. It has helped reduce the temperature in my apartment a couple degrees so I don't need to turn on the AC as much. My HD TV from 2009 still puts out 100 degrees so it's a big screen heater of sorts. I've been averaging 20 kwhr/day with $60/month electric bills, but I fear electric rates are jumping upwards recently but since I don't keep my old bills around I can't quite put my finger on how much. I get a balloon payment every 12 months then my budget billing cycle gets readjusted which is happening this month. I usually turn on the AC at 79 degrees and cool down to 73 degrees (but I have to set the wall AC to 68 degrees to do that). This summer has started out on the cool side and the apartment heat was shut off 7 weeks ago with the first early heatwave of 90 degrees, then it'd be in the 40's at night after the heatwave, so I've been running heater fans to warm up the place from 65 degrees to 73 degrees. There's a heatwave in the Midwest for the rest of this month with temperatures of 100-115 and some of that could spill my way later on with temps near 100, but generally the cool trend will remain.

TV says gas prices have been falling for 24 days in a row. Wake me up when it gets to every day for 7 months.

A related question is: how cool are LV casinos during the summer? -what do they set their thermostats at?

Summers are brutal here too. Currently we are in a heatwave and it's been about 27C ( 81F) demanding occasional use of the car AC
$:o)
No Aircon in my home ( Homes don't have them here ) , just a gas central heating which is set to keep the temperature above 19.5C ( 67F)
It has barely needed to run since February. Currently, we are in a heatwave and the indoor temperature is a rather warm 24C ( 75F)
I would not swap your our climate for Vegas.

Back when I was in charge of the thermostats at the office, we had to keep the air between 68f and 76f. I think that's an OSHA rule for "moderate exertion" work. (It can get hotter, but you have to cycle people out of the hot area and allow very frequent cool-off breaks, particularly with higher exertion.)

The last time I was at an army base, I think they had a sign by the thermostat that said they were to cool the office to 75f.

I personally prefer about 64f, but the thermostat at the house is set to 69f-71f.
May the cards fall in your favor.

In Las Vegas our house had two separate A/C units (one for upstairs and one for downstairs). During the ridiculously hot stretches our AC would run 24/7 and struggled to get the house below 80 degrees. Our largest electric bills were in August and were around $700 and that was keeping the thermostat at 78 degrees.

In Florida we keep the thermostat at 75.

There are remote controlled Dyson fans in the house anywhere needed. This actually saves turning down the thermostat a few degrees here in Florida. I don't feel that cool with overhead ceiling fans, never have. Dyson's are really quiet, so no hearing loss from a common floor fan.

My wife has one in front of the family room TV. I hate it. I am always cold at 75 and the fan just makes it worse.
